Something Stinks…

Have you ever wondered what kind of fragrances the Divas would produce? Nah, me neither, but WWE.com did a random but sort of interesting piece on hypothetical fragrances of the Superstars and Divas – you know, because the world doesn’t have enough tacky celebrity fragrances. Above are the “bottles” of each Diva’s perfume. Care to guess which belongs to whom? Read more to find out..

Torrie Wilson Released

In a bit of news that I’m not happy to report (and am posting mainly so Melanie doesn’t have to), it looks like Torrie and the WWE have parted ways after over 7 years. WWE.com provides us with the standard generic, information-less statement: WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Diva Torrie … Read more

A Few “First”s For Natalya

WWE.com has finally added Natalya Neidhart‘s profile, and along with it, her first photoshoot. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s nice to see her officially listed among the Divas. Stay tuned for another Natalya first as she will be competing in her first WWE match on this week’s SmackDown. You know us – we’ll be sure … Read more

Beth Phoenix vs. Michelle McCool?

WWE.com has posted video interviews with both Beth Phoenix and Michelle McCool concerning their recent run-in on RAW. This begs the question – are they hinting at a feud between the two? This would hardly make sense, as both women have been developing feuds on their respective shows. The WWE has finally managed to put … Read more

Killing 12 Birds With 1 Stone

Looks like the Divas are getting the shotgun treatment – WWE.com has announced that all 12 girls who participated in RAW’s “West Side Story”-style face-off are going to compete in a 12-Diva tag team match at this Sunday’s Backlash. Now, I’m not saying this match was made ridiculously late because most matches not featured on … Read more

Melina Remembers Ric Flair

Melina can’t seem to get enough of blog writing these days, because she’s penned yet another one, this time talking about Ric Flair and his recent retirement:

Woooooo!

It’s no secret that my favorite female wrestler/manager/entertainer is Sherri Martel. She is a woman that I love and cherish. I look at what she has accomplished and what I saw when I watched her work. She simply was the complete package. She was one of a kind; original, strong and larger than life.

Amongst the men, there is a single man who fits that mold for me. I looked forward to watching him no matter what he did. He is an incredible man that will stand alone in wrestling. So unique and captivating. He is the one, the only, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.

Ric Flair is beyond the complete package. There are people in this world that are amazing when it comes to mic skills, are incredible wrestlers or just have a phenomenal look. Ric Flair has all of the above and then some.

Not So Sweet…

In keeping with their terrible photoshoot streak, WWE.com has posted a new one featuring Melina brandishing the unfortunate prop of cotton candy. What’s with the WWE’s obsession with food-related photoshoots? It’s an all-around unflattering look. You’d think a more “covered up” look would be a lot more flattering than this one is – maybe it’s … Read more

More Melina “Confessions” – Thoughts On Mae Young

Melina‘s posted yet another Internet Confessions blog, discussing women’s wrestling pioneer Mae Young and her induction into the WWE Hall of Fame:

At ‘Mania and the week leading up to it, emotions ran high and history was made… Do we forget that? Do we take those moments for granted and not realize what we are witnessing and what we are a part of – WWE history? I really hope not.

The Hall of Fame is so incredible and I look forward to it each year. I cry like a baby and I am so overwhelmed with emotions. I am filled with pride and am inspired. When I hear about what the inductees went through in their lives and how they saw the business, I feel for them and it reassures me that they went through the same things that I went through and am going through… And look! We are there celebrating their greatness and thanking them for what they have done. Instantly, I am more motivated than I have ever been before.

I admire each and every one of the Hall of Famers, but I always look forward to the women who are inducted the most. There are so few women in wrestling, so few getting inducted. On that night, you hear stories about their journey and you hear about the person they are and were. I look forward to hearing the women because there is no one better to identify with and to thank for why I am here than those women who made this all possible.

Annie Leibovitz, Is That You?

WWE.com has posted a new Candice photoshoot – entitled “April Showers” – that just oozes class and subtleness. I mean, the only way these photos could be more dashing is if Candice was wearing a top hat and smoking from an old-fashioned corncob pipe. Clearly, WWE’s photo direction is on another level of classy, but … Read more

Box Office – Weekend of April 4th, 2008

Welcome to the Box Office! In this weekly feature, I’ll look at each week’s wide releases, summarize their plots (i.e. pasting from imdb.com), and give my opinion of whether or not they’re worth your 8 dollars (or whatever godawful price they’re charging these days). This week has a few new releases, each appealing to a different set of moviegoers:

“Leatherheads”starring George Clooney, Renée Zellweger, & John Krasinski
Plot summary – A romantic comedy set against the backdrop of America’s nascent pro-football league in 1925. Dodge Connolly, a charming, brash football hero, is determined to guide his team from bar brawls to packed stadiums. But after the players lose their sponsor and the entire league faces certain collapse, Dodge convinces a college football star to join his ragtag ranks. This new champ is almost too good to be true, and Lexie Littleton aims to prove that’s the case. A cub journalist playing in the big leagues, Lexie is a spitfire newswoman who suspects there are holes in Carter’s war story. As the new game of pro-football becomes less like the freewheeling sport he knew and loved, Dodge must both fight to keep his guys together and to get the girl of his dreams.
My take – I saw this movie yesterday, but I’ll spare you from a review. Let me just say that the period aspect of the movie (it’s set in the late 1920s) certainly adds to its appeal to me. I like the vintage styles and the classic look at football that we usually don’t get to see this side of ESPN Classic.

Lilian Garcia – More Than a Mic Holder?

I was taking a look at a new WWE.com photoshoot featuring Lilian Garcia, and it got me thinking – should Lilian have a more prominent role on WWE television? It seems as though she’s been around forever, but hasn’t contributed much to the overall product. On one hand, she has the looks and charisma – … Read more

Trish Stratus Doesn’t Like BunnyMania

Trish Stratus appeared on an upcoming edition of the LAW radio program, where she touched upon WrestleMania and shared her honest thoughts on BunnyMania (transcript courtesy of PWTorch.com): Jason Agnew: You know, I am looking at someone like Beth Phoenix, who is really a good in-ring worker and is in a Playboy Mania match at … Read more

Melina Makes New “Confessions” on BunnyMania & Playboy

melina1.png

For the first time since November, Melina has penned a new “Internet Confessions of a True Diva” blog on WWE.com, focusing on BunnyMania and why she thinks wrestling should take precedence over Playboy:

You have to understand, I may not write very frequently, but you know that when I do write something it’s what I feel with my heart and it’s what I strongly believe. I am very passionate in everything that I do. My writing, my workouts, my entrance, my wrestling and in love. That is me. When you see me, you are going to get just that: MELINA. I will continue to say, whether you love me or hate me, you can’t help but watch me!

My message about Playboy is … if you want to do it, that’s fine. If that is your dream, your goal and your personal achievement for YOUR life, that’s fine. Just know, that isn’t mine. I am a physical person, so it makes perfect sense for me to choose wrestling. I am a woman of action and never want to be one of those women in distress, if I can help it.

I have trained for eight years and I continue to train to better myself in this physical art form that I love with all my heart. And I will fight for it and work hard to be great at it with everything I have.

Box Office – Weekend of March 28th, 2008

Welcome to the Box Office! In this weekly feature, I’ll look at each week’s wide releases, summarize their plots (i.e. pasting from imdb.com), and give my opinion of whether or not they’re worth your 8 dollars (or whatever godawful price they’re charging these days). This week has several new releases, with the majority of them seeming to target the younger crowd:

“21”starring Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, and Kate Bosworth
Plot summary – “21” is the fact-based story about six MIT students who were trained to become experts in card counting and subsequently took Vegas casinos for millions in winnings.
My take – I quite liked Sturgess in “The Other Boleyn Girl” (Poor George!) and somewhat in “Across the Universe” (I loved the music and stylistic elements – I just didn’t buy the love story for a second.) As for Spacey (aka Lex Luthor in “Superman Returns”), he’s excellent in most of what he does, so I’ll trust that he is at least decent in his role as the ringleader of the students. Kate Bosworth (Oh look, another “Superman Returns” alumni!), has never been a great actress to me, but I trust she holds her own in the film. The casino story has been done to death as of late, but the element of college students in a sort of non-school sponsored “heist club” helps differentiate it a bit.

Beth Phoenix = She-Hulk?

I think we can agree that Beth looks like she could Hulk-smash just about anyone, but is she comparable to the comic book amazon She-Hulk? Maria thinks so, comparing both of her WrestleMania 24 opponents to superheroes in an interview with Marvel.com: ..I think all the WWE Divas are examples of super heroes, it’s not … Read more

Every Diva’s Achilles Heel

In an interview with CollegeHumor.com, Melina spoke of the perils of the ring, centering in on the age-old achilles heel of your average WWE Diva – the dreaded wedgie. Truth is, there’s nothing you really can do. Sometimes you’ll get a match with someone who keeps pulling at it, and you’re like “Dude! Just stop! … Read more
