Bound for Glory 10.14.07 – Gauntlet for the Gold Match

With Bound for Glory taking place this Saturday, let’s look back at the very first Knockouts match ever at this event. This will be this week’s Free Match Friday.

The Bound for Glory event has been one of the biggest events for TNA/IMPACT Wrestling for the past 15-years. The first event took place in 2005, however, it wasn’t until 2007 when the Knockouts first had a match. This match would be to crown the first-ever Knockouts Champion.

In order to determine who would become the companies first champion for the women, 10 participants would battle it out in a Gauntlet for the Gold Match. The participants included the following, Ms. Brooks, Jackie Moore, Shelly Martinez, Awesome Kong, O.D.B. Angel Williams, Christy Hemme, Gail Kim, Talia Madison(Velvet Sky), and Roxxi Laveaux.

The match came down to a final four between O.D.B., Talia Madison, Gail Kim, and Roxxi Laveaux. Kim eliminated Madison in one corner while Laveaux eliminated O.D.B. in another corner mere seconds later. The bell would then ring for a final fight between Kim and Laveaux in a traditional one-on-one match.

After a solid back and forth, Kim would become the first-ever Knockouts Champion pins her opponent for the count of three, cementing history with the company.

Nikki Bella vs. Brie Bella – Hell in a Cell – 10.26.14

With the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event one week from Sunday, let’s go back to a sibling rivalry from 2014 for Free Match Friday. As a result of Nikki Bella’s betrayal of her sister Brie at SummerSlam, the two started a brief rivalry.

The stipulation of this match included the loser becoming the other personal assistant for 30-days. If the loser of the match refused to do this then they would be “fired” from WWE. Their feud could have arguably been much more, but this was the culmination of what we received.

Go ahead and re-watch this moment in the video shown above. You can also catch Total Bellas Season 6 that will air on Nov. 12.

Check in with Diva Dirt next Friday for another Free Match Friday.

Asuka vs. Ember Moon, NXT Women’s Title: TakeOver Brooklyn III 08.19.17

This week’s Free Match Friday is from a TakeOver event to celebrate as we are about to hit TakeOver 31 this Sunday.

This was over three years ago as the third TakeOver to rush into Brooklyn. It had a The Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka, in her unprecedented undefeated streak as NXT Women’s Champion. This would also end up being her last match on NXT at that time. She would debut on the main roster shortly thereafter.

Feel free to enjoy the match that is listed above. Discuss in the comments what you thought of this match. Would you like to see Ember vs. Asuka again in the future? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below!

Flair vs. Banks vs. Bayley, RAW Women’s Title – Clash of Champions 09.25.16

For this week’s Free Match Friday with Clash of Champions coming up this weekend on Sunday, Sept. 27, let’s travel back a few years to 2016. In that year, the RAW Women’s Title was on the line as the champion Charlotte Flair had to defend her title against two women she knew very well – Sasha Banks and Bayley.

This match came after a SummerSlam event where Flair would regain the RAW Women’s Title from Banks. At that time Banks suffered a back injury in which was questionable on whether or not she would be able to have a rematch at Clash of Champions.

Bayley entered this match by defeating Banks and Dana Brooke in a Triple Threat. This secured her spot after she also defeated Flair one-one-one on an episode of RAW previously.

Check out the video above and relive this match and see if Flair was able to hold onto the title.

Check in with Diva Dirt this weekend as we will have coverage of any news, rumors, and results that have to do with Clash of Champions.

Current matches for the Clash of Champions card this Sunday are:

RAW Women’s Title – Asuka (c) vs. Zelina Vega – Kickoff Show

Women’s Tag Team Titles – Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler (c) vs. The Riott Squad

SmackDown Women’s Title – Bayley (c) vs. Nikki Cross

Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James 09.11.06 – RAW

As a Free Match Friday, let’s go back 14-years to the last match Trish Stratus had on RAW before retiring. Granted, the word “retire” is a term used loosely in wrestling, this was the last official match on RAW before Stratus hung up her boots for a bit.

She would make sporadic appearances in the coming years after, mostly in tag team action. Then there was of course her recent appearances in the past couple of years with the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble match along with her SummerSlam match against Charlotte Flair in 2019.

This match in particular wrapped up one of her more popular feuds with Mickie James in a nice little bow. The dynamic between Stratus and James was always one to watch and the two worked very well together. The pair would put on another exciting match between them. Lita would attempt to cause a distraction to Stratus, however, she was still able to pull out a victory.

She would then face Lita at Unforgiven just a few days later, which would be her final match with the company at the time.

Check out the video above to watch Stratus’ final match on RAW from 2006. What did you think of this match? Leave your comments below.

Toni Storm vs. Nina Samuels – NXT UK Women’s Title 05.29.19

It’s been a while since we did a Free Match Friday and why not have one involving the women of NXT UK. Much like the absence of Free Match Friday’s comes the hiatus of the NXT UK Women’s Division.

Since it has been on hiatus, why not look at a past match to reminisce. Here is Nina Samuels attempting to knock off Toni Storm as NXT UK Women’s Champion. Storm held the title heading into the match and throughout her entire tenure as champion she went 230-days.

Enjoy this match!!

Who would you like to see back in the ring once NXT UK starts back up again?

Hikaru Shida vs. Evie (Dakota Kai) SHIMMER 62 – 04.05.14

Hana Kimura, Stella Grey, and Sumie Sakai vs. Jenny Rose and Oedo Tai – G1 Supercard ROH

In April of 2019, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling co-produced an event called G1 Supercard. From that event came a dark match which we have decided to make this week’s Free Match Friday. It is to highlight the late Hana Kimura.

Last weekend, Kimura tragically left this earth. At such a young age of 22, Kimura was a bright star and her talent was unmistakable. Her appearance along with Oedo Tai (Kagetsu and Hazuki) highly represented Stardom.

It is clear that Kimura was the next big thing. She is loved and missed by many.

Please enjoy this match and discuss what you thought of it in the comment section below.

If you are a Stardom fan, discuss other favorite matches of Hana’s that you enjoyed as well.

R.I.P Hana Kimura –

We all need to do better and love one another.

MsChif vs. Amazing Kong SHIMMER Vol. 9 – 04.07.07

This week’s Free Match Friday is brought to you by SHIMMER. As a result of indie shows not being able to perform at the moment, it is good to recall past matches that stole the show.

Credit: SHIMMER

This match featured a big name for the SHIMMER promotion and that is MsChif. She eventually became a SHIMMER Champion, but before the title was brought forth she feuded with the likes of Cheerleader Melissa and Daizee Haze. She would eventually go on to become SHIMMER Champion for an impressive 715-days.

This particular encounter though she had her hands full with a formidible foe – Amazing Kong.

The two put on quite the match in which MsChif showed just how determine she was to never quit. Enjoy this week’s match to see who took away the victory.

Ivelisse vs. Kimber Lee SHIMMER Vol. 62 – 04.05.14

Two big names on the indie scene took to the ring for SHIMMER Vol. 62 in the names of Ivelisse and Kimber Lee. Lee is currently the SHIMMER Champion and was just recently signed by IMPACT Wrestling which was announced from her appearance this past week.

For this match, Ivelisse was the current SHINE Champion at the time during her first reign. Since then she has become a three-time champion and currently holds this same title today. This match was Ivelisse’s first match with SHIMMER.

With the current landscape of indie shows not taking place at the moment we will feature indie matches on Free Match Fridays to recognize them. Hope you enjoy this match.

Check back in with Diva Dirt next Friday for another match.

Mercedes Martinez vs. Sara Del Rey SHIMMER Vol. 1 – 11.06.05

This week’s Free Match Friday takes an almost 15-year jump in our time travel machine to the very first SHIMMER event. SHIMMER Vol. 1 was just the start of a company who focused on many of the great women we have seen throughout the years.

In this match we witness Mercedes Martinez facing Sara Del Rey. Del Rey, who eventually became the first SHIMMER Champion, takes Martinez to the limit in this match.

Del Rey has become the assistant head coach for NXT since 2015 and signed with the company as a trainer in 2012.

As of January, Martinez has been signed to WWE after being a 20-year veteran in the ring.

Enjoy this week’s flashback to 2005 and let us know what you think of the outcome of this match. Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Crazy Mary Dobson vs. Jessicka Havok – RPW Women’s Championship 08.01.15

In honor of Sarah Logan (Rowe), this Free Match Friday goes to her. Prior to joining WWE, she was a frequent on the independent scene known as Crazy Mary Dobson.

This match in particular is from the now defunct Resistance Pro Wrestling (RPW) from their Death Proof show. Dobson was defending her RPW Women’s Championship against Jessicka Havok.

This was a title that Dobson held for 539-days and vacated it once she moved on to WWE. Other notable women that held this title were Awesome Kong, Rachael Ellering, and Melanie Cruise (who has most recently been seen as Mel in AEW).

Please enjoy this match and hopefully we will see more matches from Rowe in the future in another promotion.

Viper vs. Kay Lee Ray – ICW Queen of Insanity Match 12.02.18

Before Viper (now Piper Niven) and Kay Lee Ray were mainstays on NXT UK, these women battled in several matches on the independent scene. One of the most highlighted matchs in their career took place with Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) with a Queen of Insanity Match.

In late 2018, Viper put her ICW Women’s Championship on the line against Ray who was no stranger to holding the belt herself. The two would battle it out with using just about any weapon you could think of.

This war between the two was very big throughout their rivalry and it is highlighted very well in the gruesome match.

Feel free to view the match above and see who walked out as ICW Women’s Champion.

Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks WrestleMania 32 04.03.16

In 2016 the change of the women’s division developed from them being known as Divas to simply Superstars. This Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 32 cemented that final chapter as Charlotte walked in as the Divas Champion but would walk out as WWE Women’s Champion. The championship that shortly thereafter would be renamed as the … Read more

Jazz vs. Ivelisse at Ladies Night Out 5 – 02.23.19

On this week’s Free Match Friday we continue what was started last week and that is to celebrate Black History Month. Last week we revisited WWE Hall of Famer Jacqueline’s win of the Cruiserweight Championship that took place nearly 16-years ago. This week will be a more recent match, but it highlights one of the best in the business – Jazz.

The match that you can view above is from the Ladies Night Out 5 event that took place last year. This is an event that is about to have their 9th installment and is hosted by Reality of Wrestling.

In this match it was Jazz taking on Ivelisse in a Falls Count Anywhere match. The action spilled out all around ringside with a short trip to the stage. Weapons were used throughout such as chairs, a ladder, and cable cords.

In the end though, Jazz would fall victim to Ivelisse after a distraction caused by Barbi Hayden who was on commentary. Jazz would taunt Hayden who then would hop on the ring apron and deliver a punch. Ivelisse capitalizes and hits a DDT on a chair. She rolls up Jazz for the win.

Jacqueline vs. Chavo Guerrero -Cruiserweight Title 05/06/04

For this month’s Free Match Friday’s, in honor of Black History Month, Diva Dirt is going to feature Black women in the industry. To kick things off will be a classic match that was history-making before making history was the cool thing to do. The match is Jacqueline challenging Chavo Guerrero for the Cruiserweight Championship.

Setting up the moment was Guerrero in the ring with his father, Chavo Sr. As the current Cruiserweight Champion at the time, he issued an open challenge. He stressed that this person could be literally anyone who wanted a crack at the title. He even would state it is him against the world.

What Guerrero (as well as everyone else) didn’t expect was Jacqueline to answer his challenge. Guerrero seemingly cocky throughout the match didn’t take her as a serious opponent and that cost him. After a low blow by Jacqueline when the referee was distracted by Chavo Sr., she rolled him up and over into a pin to get the three count. The crowd erupted and we had the first-ever female Cruiserweight Champion.

Sadly, Jacqueline would only go on to hold the title for about 12-days and lost it back to Guerrero at the Judgement Day pay-per-view. She would be released the following month prior to heading to TNA. She was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2016.

Ashley vs. Mickie James Royal Rumble 01/29/06

The Royal Rumble pay-per-view doesn’t have a good history when it comes to the women. The past few years since the women’s revolution has taken place it has become better.
