Roxanne Perez Sits Down To Speak As New NXT Women’s Champion

The pre-taped Dec. 20 episode of NXT had a lot of attention from the women’s division. There were three matches and a fourth that never got underway.

First, we had Nikita Lyons take on Zoey Stark as their feud continues to rage. Stark tried to attack Lyons from behind to start the match but unlike the last sneak attack, Lyons was ready and caught her with a Buzzsaw Kick. The match was pretty back and forth leading up to the ending which saw Stark stealing a victory. Stark reversed an O’Connor roll with a roll of her own while holding the ropes to get the pin.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Cora Jade. Jade gave an unhappy response to Roxanne Perez becoming the new NXT Women’s Champion. Wendy Choo attacked her starting a brawl that leads to a match for the next week.

In another segment, Fallon Henley was at her family bar along with Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen. Kiana James would enter with Giovanna declaring that she was purchasing the bar. Jensen is the one who alerted James of the bar being in financial trouble. Henley didn’t take kindly to James’ advances and challenged her next week to a match.

The second women’s match was for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships and that had Katana Chance & Kayden Carter defend their gold against Ivy Nile & Tatum Paxley as well as Toxic Attraction in a Triple Threat.

The two teams that were involved in the fall were Nile & Paxley along with the champs Carter & Chance. After Paxley pushed Chance off the top rope, Nile locked in a dragon sleeper on Carter. Carter pushed off the ropes and reversed it getting the pin and the victory. This means that Carter and Chance’s reign continues as they are quickly approaching 150 days as champions.

The third women’s match was Indi Hartwell taking on Elektra Lopez. Weeks back Lopez made her return and attacked but Hartwell and Sol Ruca. Since then, Hartwell has had a small fight with Roxanne Perez but now wanted to seek revenge on Lopez. Unfortunately for Hartwell, Lopez had more tricks up her sleeve. By hiding brass knuckles in the top turnbuckle she used them to punch Hartwell in the head to pick up the pin and the victory.

Lastly for matches, there was supposed to be Alba Fyre taking Sol Ruca but it didn’t take place. Prior to their match, Isla Dawn blinded Fyre with mist which had her seek out medical attention. Fyre was cleared to compete, but as she headed to the ring Dawn attacked her and threw her into the ring steps causing the match to not take place.

Also on the Dec. 20 episode of NXT we heard from the new NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez. In a sit-down interview, she spoke about becoming the new champion and what this has meant to hear as working towards this moment for the past five years.

NXT lineup for Dec. 27

  • Kiana James vs. Fallon Henley
  • Wendy Choo vs. Cora Jade
  • Lyra Valkyria vs. Lash Legend

Xia Li Assists Damage CTRL To Retain The Women’s Tag Team Titles

On the Dec. 16 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Damage CTRL successfully retained their Women’s Tag Team Championships after defeating Liv Morgan and Tegan Nox. However, they did have some help, and not just from Bayley.

The match opened the show and the two teams put on a solid match but it reached its conclusion after Nox had a moment with Bayley at the time keeper area. Nox dumped Bayley over the barricade in order to remove her from the situation when a woman in a hoodie kicked Nox. The assailant would be dragged to the back by security immediately after the attack.

This allowed IYO SKY to get Nox back in the ring, deliver a moonsault, and pin her to retain the tag titles for Damage CTRL.

A little later during the show, a WWE Exclusive appeared on WWE’s social media. It would show the hooded assailant being brought to the back as Adam Pearce would reveal who it was that attacked Nox. It would end up being Xia Li. Pearce would order her to go to his office, but there was no follow-up on this for the rest of the show.

Other women from this episode includes Zelina Vega, Valhalla, and B-Fab. Much like last week, all three women were at ringside for their respective stables. There was a triple threat of Hit Row, The Vking Raiders, and Legado del Fantasma to determine the number one contenders for the men’s tag team titles.

During the match, Vega would get involved as she hit Ashante Thee Adonis with a head scissor takedown. B-Fab delivered a bicycle kick to Vega knocking her out of the ring before Valhalla kicked B-Fab in the throat. Both B-Fab and Valhalla were on the outside by commentary when Vega would launch off the second rope and lay out Valhalla.

Lastly, Raquel Rodriguez would be interviewed backstage. She confirmed that she would be in the Gauntlet match set for next week to determine the number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Shayna Baszler and current SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey would appear and attack the already injured Rodriguez.

Alexa Bliss Becomes Number One Contender; Asuka Hints Character Change

Alexa Bliss is the new number one contender for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship. A date for the Bliss vs. Belair match was not announced.

She took on Bayley to start off Raw this week and came away with the victory after delivering Twisted Bliss. The WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai and IYO SKY accompanied Bayley to the ring. However, Becky Lynch arrived and attacked both Kai and SKY taking them out threw the crowd and away from the ring prior to the match starting. Belair came out to ringside to watch the match.

After Bliss picked up the victory she went to give Belair a hug in the ring and caught the Raw Women’s Champion in Sister Abigail. She wouldn’t execute the move releasing Belair as the two backed away from one another. Just before the Sister Abigail tease, the Bray Wyatt symbol appeared on the big screen behind Belair.

The second match of the night was the advertised Candice LeRae taking on IYO SKY. The two have a lot of history from NXT and LeRae was looking to finally get a win over SKY.

Prior to the match, LeRae had a backstage segment with Johnny Gargano and Dexter Lumis. For another week, Nikki Cross appeared behind LeRae spying on her. SKY would end up winning the match after delivering her moonsault. Damage CTRL celebrated in the ring following SKY’s win. LeRae is still winless against SKY in singles matches.

Lastly, the third women’s match had Asuka taking on Rhea Ripley. Although we have seen this match recently, this time felt different as Asuka came to the ring and wrestled without her normal face makeup on. During the match, commentary brought up Asuka’s recent Twitter postings being unusual. For those who have not been caught up, Asuka has been posting her prior to WWE character Kana frequently on social media since last week.

Asuka would take the loss in this match after she spit mist in the face of Dominik Mysterio. This allowed Ripley to deliver the Riptide.

Roxanne Perez Becomes First Iron Survivor At NXT Deadline

Two women’s matches kicked off NXT Deadline on December 10.

The last NXT premium live event of the year opened up with the first-ever women’s Iron Survivor Challenge. Roxanne Perez and Zoey Stark were the first two entrants until Kiana James joined. Stark was the first to score a fall when she pinned Perez to send her to the penalty box for 90 seconds. Cora Jade came in next and scored a fall over James before Indi Hartwell entered last and sent Perez back to the penalty box. Perez finally scored a fall over Stark to give everyone but James one point.

Perez pulled ahead when she hit Pop Rox on her rival Jade. After 90 seconds, Jade returned to the bout but struggled to score another fall before the clock hit 25 minutes. Perez was declared the winner and has now earned a future NXT Women’s Championship match. That match will take place on Jan. 10 at New Year’s Evil.

Right after the Iron Survivor Challenge, Alba Fyre had her chance at revenge against Isla Dawn. The action was hard-fought in and out the ring, but it wasn’t without Dawn’s mysterious antics. The original referee was taken out after black goo began falling out of his mouth. After a new ref came in, Dawn sent Fyre into an exposed turnbuckle and planted her for the three-count.

The tag division received some minor developments during a pair of backstage segments. In one interview, Katana Chance and Kayden Carter interrupted Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley to give them props and tease a future match. Later on, Nile and Paxley attacked Toxic Attraction when they confronted the champs, which led to all three teams brawling until they were pulled apart. It is now confirmed that Nile and Paxley will face Toxic Attraction on Tuesday’s new episode.

Looking ahead, NXT’s next televised special will be New Year’s Evil on January 10, while the next PLE will be Vengeance Day on February 4 in Charlotte, NC.

Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss Set For Number One Contender Match

After two Triple Threat battles with all former Raw Women’s Champions on the Dec. 5 episode of Raw, Bayley and Alexa Bliss have earned a Raw Women’s Championship number one contendership match. They will face off next week with the winner going on to face the champion – Bianca Belair.

On this week’s Raw, Bayley won the first Triple Threat match after pinning Asuka off of the Rose Plant finisher. Also in the match was Rhea Ripley. A strong match between the three also had a post-match assault from Ripley to Asuka as she takes out her frustrations from her loss.

Prior to the match, Becky Lynch and Bayley exchanged words. Lynch came down from the crowd to join Bayley in the ring. With Lynch being in the main event in the second Triple Threat, she was hoping Bayley would win so they could face each other next week. As Ripley was heading to the ring, Lynch made her way to the back and the two exchanged a stare down that certainly gave fans something to look forward to at some point in the future.

The second women’s match was the main event with Lynch taking on Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss. Another lengthy match for the women ended with Damage CTRL’s IYO SKY and Dakota Kai interfering. They pulled Lynch out of the ring and eventually carried her over to the announce table to powerbomb her through it. This allowed Bliss to pick up to victory on Cross after delivering Twisted Bliss.

Earlier in the night when Bliss was getting ready for her match, the Bray Wyatt symbol showed up again on the TV screen behind her for a second. During the Triple Threat, Bliss did exhibit some hints of turning back to Evil Bliss but it never fully committed. She did go for Sister Abigail on Lynch but the move was not executed.

Elsewhere for the women on this week’s Raw, Dana Brooke, Tamina, and Mia Yim were part of the poker game in the back. Yim did accompany The O.C. to the ring for their match.

After getting a big win against Dakota Kai last week, Candice LeRae was interviewed backstage. It was revealed that she will be facing IYO SKY next week. During the interview, for the second week in a row, Nikki Cross was spotted in the background spying on LeRae.

The Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair was interviewed backstage as well this week discussing who could potentially be her upcoming opponent.

Raw Dec. 12

  • Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss – Number One Contenders Match
  • Candice LeRae vs. IYO SKY

Becky Lynch Brawls With Damage CTRL; Candice LeRae Returns

The Monday Night Raw after Survivor Series WarGames opened up with the woman who won the WarGames Match for Team Bianca – Becky Lynch.

After embracing the WWE Universe, Lynch made her way out into the crowd and started incorporating them into her promo confirming that she is the man of the people. Shortly after, Bayley came out to address her. While Lynch was still in the crowd, Bayley and The Man exchange words back and forth getting the crowd members involved.

This takes place until the rest of Damage CTRL (IYO SKY and Dakota Kai) attack Lynch. As Bayley joins, the three-on-one assault escalates up to the merch stand until all parties involved are pulled apart by officials.

Directly after this, a small video of Rhea Ripley is played before she comes out to face “Michin” Mia Yim. The two rivals who participated in WarGames just 48 hours ago were putting on a stellar match until Judgment Day and The OC got involved which caused a no-contest finish. This then turned into the four-on-four tag team match that was highly anticipated between both factions.

Much like Yim vs. Ripley, this match was also very well received and it included the women even briefly interacting with the men instead of acknowledging mixed tag team rules. The result would come down to Yim and Ripley (as it should) with Ripley picking up the win for Judgment Day off of Riptide. This was after Yim bodyslammed Finn Balor and then targeted Dominik Mysterio.

Moments later, a video was shown about Candice LeRae and how she was taken out a month ago by Damage CTRL. She is back and was walking down a hallway backstage. She was stopped for an interview where she addressed Dakota Kai in particular because she had a match with her later in the night. While LeRae was walking down the hallway, Nikki Cross was hiding as we saw her peek out to take a glance at LeRae.

As stated, LeRae and Kai have a match later in the night. The match was given plenty of time and showcased both women very well. LeRae started the match quickly by attacking Kai when she was making her entrance. Bayley and SKY would attempt to come down to the ring to help but were sent to the back so there was nobody out at ringside. Despite Kai pulling out many moves in her arsenal including the scorpion kick, she wasn’t able to get the victory. LeRae defeated one-half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions with a top rope neck breaker.

Finally, three women from WarGames we hadn’t seen yet were Asuka, Alexa Bliss, and the Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. Commentary stated that due to the WarGames match, the three women weren’t cleared to compete. They also said despite Bayley and SKY being involved in the brawl earlier in the night, they were also not cleared to compete on Raw. SKY had on a neck brace during the brawl.

There was a backstage interview with Asuka, Bliss, and Belair where they were commenting on WarGames and including Becky Lynch as the final member paying off for their team. Belair stated that every plan Damage CTRL had backfired since SummerSlam. She also would say she is happy to put all of that behind her. Before they began to speak, the Wyatt 6 symbol appeared on the screen behind them. Bliss was checked out during the interview and not engaged. After Asuka spoke, Cathy Kelley asked Bliss if she had anything to add. After clearly being zoned out during the interview, Bliss woke up and said she agreed with what Belair had to say.

Rhea Ripley Wins WarGames Advantage For Team Damage CTRL

On the go-home episode of Raw for Survivor Series WarGames, Rhea Ripley took on Asuka in the main event. The winner of the match earned the WarGames advantage.

Before we got to the match, there was a promo for the WarGames match. The Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair entered the ring with teammates Alexa Bliss and Asuka. The fourth member of the team, Michin (Mia Yim) wasn’t out with her team but did have a brawl with Ripley earlier in the night.

Belair teases the fifth unannounced member of her team. She says they will be announced this Friday on SmackDown. Damage CTRL, Ripley, and Cross then made their way to the ring. Bayley says that Belair won’t find her fifth member because nobody even respects her. This includes Belair’s own teammates because according to Bayley they are just sucking up to her to be next in line for the title.

Belair says that while Bayley and company are playing games, her team is ready for war. Bliss adds that she will throw Nikki Cross in the trash where she belongs. Asuka says they are ready for war but nobody is ready for us.

The match between Ripley and Asuka came right after and was given plenty of time in the main event. In the final moments of the match, Damage CTRL and Cross plus Belair and Bliss would come to ringside to support their respective team members. Asuka thought she had the match won with a submission but Ripley was able to escape. Ripley would lastly deliver Riptide to get the pin and the victory. Team Damage CTRL has the WarGames advantage.

Post match, the two teams brawled. Michin would eventually join the fight and she and Ripley would brawl into the audience. Asuka delivered a crossbody from the turnbuckle onto the rest of the women to end the show.

Shotzi Builds Momentum With A Win On SmackDown

Shotzi battled Shayna Baszler on the Nov. 18 episode of SmackDown just over one week away from her SmackDown Women’s Championship Match against the champ Ronda Rousey. Shotzi will challenge Rousey at Survivor Series WarGames but she had to get revenge on Baszler first after taking her out last week.

The match had a very 2-on-1 feeling as Rousey would cause distractions on numerous occasions. Every time that Shotzi would get some momentum against Baszler, Rousey was there to make sure it didn’t happen again.

Eventually, Raquel Rodriguez’s music would hit and she would make her way down to the ring to support Shotzi. This distracted Baszler while she was setting up Shotzi’s arm to stomp on. Shotzi would counter and stack up Baszler to get the victory. Shotzi and Rodriguez celebrated after the match.

Next week, a tag team match is booked as Shotzi and Rodriguez will be taking on Baszler and Rousey.

Elsewhere on SmackDown, Emma was giving a pep talk to Madcap Moss backstage before his match against Karrion Kross. Moss wanted some retribution against Kross after his loss to him recently. Scarlett would of course accompany Kross to the ring.

Scarlett’s presence throughout the match including a slap to Moss’ face would do him no favors. Kross would eventually cause Moss to go to sleep again in the Kross Jacket. Emma would rush to the ring after the match to be by the side of Moss.

On NXT Level Up, Dani Palmer had her TV debut. She faced Thea Hail in a losing effort.
