SmackDown Redux (July 23rd, 2010): “Skirt Tiffany?!”

Following a successful pay per view title defense last Sunday at Money in the Bank, Women’s Champion Layla relaxed this week on SmackDown as she was thrown a celebratory party by BFF, Michelle McCool. Watch below: After exchanging gifts, which miraculously end up being two halves of one pendant [they’re psychic apparently], in comes GM … Read more

TNA Announces ECW-Inspired PPV: Should They Bring Back the ECW Vixens?

Always first for originality, TNA’s next pay per view — Hard Justice — has been renamed Hardcore Justice: The Last Stand and will be a tribute show featuring many ECW originals. But of the names rumoured so far [Jerry Lynn, CW Anderson etc.], there doesn’t seem to be any women from the original ECW. Hmm, just an oversight I’m sure…

To help out Dixie and co., here’s our guide to the four women we’d like to see:

Beulah

Hardcore history: Making her ECW debut in 1995, Beulah was introduced a major catalyst in a feud between Tommy Dreamer and Raven. The two feuded over Beulah and there were many twists and turns including a fake pregnancy. After siding with Dreamer, Beulah was then revealed to have had an affair — with a woman! Perhaps her biggest highlight is a bloody brawl with Bill Alfonso. Beulah re-emerged in the WWE incarnation of ECW, catfighting with old rival Francine at One Night Stand in 2005 and then competing in a six-person tag match involving Lita in 2006.
Why she should be at the PPV: As Tommy Dreamer’s wife, it’s entirely possibly that Beulah may turn up at Hardcore Justice. Dreamer is reportedly putting the show together and it’d wouldn’t be a surprise to see his wife by his side at the pay per view. Perhaps a Dreamer/Raven rematch for old time’s sake with Beulah at ringside?

NXT Lay-Kav-Ool Watch (June 20th, 2010): Kaval Speaks On The Mic. Reminds Me Of The Old Spice Guy While Doing So.

In a tragic twist of events, the adorable NXT trio affectionately known as Lay-Kav-Ool (Layla, Kaval, and Michelle McCool) played no real part in the show last week due to the presence of the dastardly (and oh so sexy) Nexus and the absence of Laycool. It was a dark, dark day in NXT history and I had high hopes that this week would bring about a well deserved does of awesomeness. That didn’t really happen and it’s unfortunate because an elimination is coming next week and the last thing we want to see is Kaval sent packing. One thing I did discover during this week’s episode is that Kaval’s deep voice reminds me of the Old Spice guy from the new commercials. For those of you who don’t know the Old Spice guy, go YouTube Old Spice “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like.” It’s television commercial brilliance if I do say so myself.

The Kaval portion of NXT sure did take it’s time getting here tonight and it’s very sad that he had to share the stage with that freak, Eli Cottonwood. If Cottonwood doesn’t go home next week, then there’s no justice in this world. Now the reason why Eli, Kaval, and their pros are on stage is because throughout the show, NXT host, the delicious Matt Striker, has been asking all of them why their guy should be number one in next week’s NXT poll. Kaval is the second to last one to speak, but before we could enjoy him, we had to suffer through Eli Cottonwood’s promo first. Laycool begin to boo as John Morrison begins to speak on behalf of his rookie. I can’t blame them for booing because whenever you begin a sentence with “Last week I was sitting in the airport eating a breakfast burrito…” you know this is automatically going to be a fail. But according to Morrison, while he was eating that darn breakfast burrito, the NXT rookies all walked by him. A little kid who was sitting close to Morrison asked his mother who the big tall guy was. Morrison just found it oh so amazing that out of all the rookies, the little kid would pick out Eli Cottonwood. Morrison says he feels as if Eli could be the long term investment and that he keeps learning and improving.

Sorry, JoMo. That’s still not enough reason to vote for Eli especially since I just realized he has the same stupid facial expression as my ex-thing (not worthy enough for the title of “boyfriend.”) I kind of want to scream right now. Ugh.

Eli takes the microphone and goes over to Matty and asks him who he is going to vote for. He gets all up in Striker’s grill and demands to know who Striker is going to vote for. Matt finally agrees to vote for Eli, and then Eli starts to go off on some tangent about how no one is more intimidating that he is. Thankfully, Striker cuts him off and goes to Laycool.

Raw Redux (July 19, 2010): The Champ Isn’t Here

After losing yet another title match at Money in the Bank, Eve Torres is set out to redeem herself against former Divas champion, Maryse. Check out the match below:

Out first is Eve in her orange and gold gear from Money in the Bank. Unlike my colleagues, I really like this color on her. The gold is a bit much, but I think she looks great. Next out is Maryse, who is being accompanied my Ted Dibiase. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… Ted DiBiase is bland as all get out and Maryse is really outshining him in this pairing. I’m actually having trouble distinguish which of them is the eye candy here.

Before the match starts, Maryse removes her expensive jewelry (Why did you wear it to the ring in the first place?) and gets in Eve’s face in her usual arrogant fashion. Apparently, Eve isn’t in the mood for Maryse attitude tonight, so she piefaces her to kick things off. Eve tries to capitalize but is taken down by a kick to the gut and a slap to the face. Maryse then kicks Eve towards the ropes and chokes her out from behind.

While Maryse is pummeling poor Eve, Ted makes sure to let the commentary team and that Maryse is NOT a golddigger (very convincing) and that this is also a #1 contender’s match. Good to know… halfway into the match. *Sigh*

PPV Predictions: WWE Money in the Bank

Both the Divas Championship and Women’s Championship are on the line tonight. Who will make bank? The Diva Dirt team weigh in:

Divas Championship: Alicia Fox vs Eve Torres

Cryssi: This match is weird to me because honestly, it shouldn’t even be happening. Eve did nothing to deserve this title shot, and the reasoning behind the booking of this is just stupid. The only bright side to this is that it’s given us an unprecedented two diva matches on the same pay-per-view. That’s not happened since Night of Champions, when they’re REQUIRED to give us two diva matches. Alicia and Eve have proven that they don’t exactly equal magic in the ring. Eve is boring and needs to find a personality before she is given the belt again. As far as Alicia goes, it would be ridiculous for the WWE to take the title from her at this point because she’s actually bringing something to it that we haven’t seen since Maryse’s first run with the thing. I beliEVE in Alicia Fox as Diva’s Champion and I’m counting on the WWE to do the right thing tonight and keep that championship on her. Get it done, Foxy.

David: Tonight’s “Money in the Bank” PPV is a big opportunity for the Raw Divas. Eve gets a rematch with Divas Champion Alicia Fox as mandated by AOL (“You’ve Got Mail!”) and I’m hopeful the WWE gives these girls enough time to showcase their in-ring talents. I have enjoyed watching both of them lately and, although I’m not sure I love the “Alicia injury” angle, I think there has been decent build for this match. With Maryse out of the title picture for the moment, this is an important opportunity for both girls to show that the next generation of Divas can be counted on under the bright lights. I expect Alicia Fox to retain the title in a match that hopefully ends with her monster axe kick (a move that deserves its own “don’t try this at home” PSA) and not a soft continuation of the “injured” champion storyline.

Erin: Alicia’s being painted as the cowardly heel as of late, and with this match Eve seems to be getting Alicia right where she wants her. But to me, for Eve to “get” Alicia so soon would be to run to the payoff way too quickly. In my opinion, Alicia’s still got plenty of steam in her title reign, despite the WWE booking her weakly, and there’s no real reason for Eve to win the title back so soon. Let Alicia Fox have some more fun with it.

Another New Diva in FCW

As well as Christina Crawford (sister of Divas Champion Alicia Fox), it looks as though WWE has signed another new Diva to a developmental contract. The mystery blonde appeared during last night’s bikini contest at the FCW live event in Orlando, wearing an ODB-esque green outfit and cap. (See above). We hope to have some … Read more

Raw Redux (July 12, 2010): Catfights, Insults and Second Chances

Raw’s sly Diva, Alicia Fox picked a picked up a win that can only be called controversial last week when she defended her title against Eve Torres. Obviously, Eve has unfinished business with the champ, as she finds her way to commentary for Alicia’s non-title match with Gail Kim this week. Check out the match below:

We start with Eve already at ringside, posing and waving to the fans (One of her favorite pastimes, along with salsa dancing.) She joined Lawler and Cole on commentary as the Divas Champion makes her to the ring.

Alicia is clad in a brand new piñata skirt, this time in red and I must say, it’s an improvement over her last two even if it still looks like she raided a Party City store to make it. While Alicia struts her stuff in the ring and taunts Eve, they show a replay of last week’s match and how Alicia picked up the win.

Out next is her opponent, Gail Kim, who is looking phenomenal tonight. Gail does the usual babyface posing for the crowd before stepping in the ring to face the champ. The referee rings the bell and the match is underway.

Will Vickie Play a Role in Sunday’s Women’s Title Match?

Rather odd yet interesting, Vickie Guerrero — who hasn’t been seen with Lay-Cool in some time — is mentioned in the WWE.com preview for the Layla vs Kelly match at Money in the Bank. The site writes: Secondly, could Official SmackDown Consultant Vickie Guerrero exert her power in some form? In recent weeks Vickie’s attention … Read more

SmackDown Redux (July 9th, 2010): Look Who’s Talking…

It’s rare to see Divas being given promo time… they’re usually just thrown out there for their standard three minute match. So imagine my surprise when all of the Divas were given speaking parts this week. After main eventing Superstars last night, the ‘main’ Divas, Lay-Cool and Kelly were pretty much given the night off this week on SmackDown — save for a backstage segment. Watch below:

Josh Mathews announces that Kelly Kelly will challenge the official WWE Women’s Champion, Layla at the Money in the Bank pay per view next week and asks for Kelly’s thoughts. Before she can even get a word in, in comes Layla taunting her. Layla takes a can of spray out but before she can do anything, Kelly smacks it out of her hand and grabss Layla by the throat rather viciously. “What are you gonna do, huh?” she says to Layla.

However, Michelle McCool makes the save, attacking Kelly from behind. The two Divas beat down the #1 Contender and Michelle smashes her head against the ground. As they leave, Tiffany and some referees come to check on her, although the damage has been done.

A really short segment but after an extremely satisfying 8-minute match on Superstars last night, I’m not complaining. Kelly’s aggression with Layla was fantastic and finally, I feel like I’m seeing something from this girl. Usually, she’s just so happy and smiley and lacks a fire and desire but here, you could see that fire in her. She’s finally fed up of Layla and Michelle and is ready to fight. Good way to set up their title match.

The beatdown on Kelly was also nicely done and sets up this match pretty well, with some real animosity between these Divas now. That’s all I ask for: make it seem real. I want to see a real tension and animosity between these girls heading into pay per view matches and they did that. But my concern is that next week, they’ll lose all this momentum just two days before the pay per view. Hopefully not.
