WWE TLC in Review: The Glamazon Soars to Victory in a Night of Divas Galore

TLC has many meanings. From tender loving care, to T-Boz, Chilli and Left Eye, to the focus of last night’s WWE pay per view, and that is tables, ladders and chairs. Granted, none of these came into play during the Diva related segments, but we should all be fortunate that we even got to see … Read more

WWE TLC Results: Beth Phoenix & Kelly Kelly in Impromptu Divas Title Match

Talk about an eleventh hour addition! In an unadvertised Divas Championship bout, Beth Phoenix and Kelly Kelly once again did battle, rehashing their long rivalry over the summer and early fall, as 2011 comes to a close. The match stemmed from this past Monday’s Slammy Awards where Kelly and Beth had an altercation after Kelly … Read more

TLC in Review (December 19th, 2010): Divas Go Extreme and Look Fashionable While Doing So

A lot of people, myself included, were left flabbergasted when the mysterious Raw GM announced last Monday night that Michelle McCool and Layla would face off against Divas Champion, Natalya, and Beth Phoenix in the first ever Divas Tables Match at TLC. Lets face it, the WWE doesn’t exactly have a reputation for taking their girls seriously, and when this announcement was read I pretty much felt my jaw hit the ground from sheer and total shock. I quoted several times this week that this match had all the potential in the world, but it would end up being a total hit or miss. Thankfully for everyone involved, from the girls to the fans, the match was an absolute hit. Beth, Natalya, Layla, and Michelle made history last night and put their bodies on the line just to entertain the fans in the audience and those watching around the world. They proved that above all else they are wrestlers with just as much passion for the business as the people who bust their asses on the independent scene for years. Those people who write the Divas off just because they work for a company that only believes in giving them five minutes of airtime a week (max) that they’re not capable of putting together a truly good show. I really hope that everyone who watched the match or will watch will appreciate that the four ladies involved made the best use of their allotted time and did everything they could to make the match memorable.

It truly was one of the best Diva matches I’ve ever seen.

Former Divas Champions, Lay-Cool, are the first two to make their way to the ring. The Slammy award winners have their statues in their hands as they make their way to the ring. Both Michelle and Layla are sporting new ring gear and allow me to show my real wrestling fandom here; no doubt the top ring gear I’ve ever seen. Wow, both of those outfits are gorgeous. Anyway, moment over. Lay-Cool aren’t their usual confident selves as they go to the ring. They walk past several tables and Layla pretty much looks like she wants to cry. Michelle takes her hand and they finish walking together. As both members of Lay-Cool get on the apron, Layla declares that she doesn’t want to do the match at all. The cameras cut to highlights from SmackDown featuring what went down between all four women before cutting back to the ring. Michelle and Layla were seen having just watched the package and of course, that just got their emotions going again. They turned around and pointed to the pink table, crying about what could happen to them, when the Glamazon’s music started to play.

WWE TLC: Lay-Cool Laid Out in First Ever Divas Tag Team Tables Match

The holiday season isn’t getting off to a great start for Lay-Cool. The Diva duo were sent crashing through a table by Divas Champion, Natalya in the first ever Divas Tag Team Tables Match at TLC just moments ago. In an extremely entertaining match that saw multiple twists and turns, Lay-Cool were outsmarted by ‘Glama-Hart’, … Read more

PPV Predictions: WWE TLC 2010

Tonight will see the first ever Divas Tag Team Tables Match as Beth Phoenix and Natalya (Glama-Hart) team up to take on Lay-Cool. Who will be put through the table? And who will walk away with the victory? The DD team weigh in…

Cryssi: I expect a lot of shenanigans mixed with chaos in this match. The WWE picked the right four women to compete in this type of match. Natalya and Beth are brawlers, and Lay-Cool will have the comedy aspect down pat. Call me an optimist, but I expect this to be a beautiful match. Everyone will get a ‘spot’, but at the end of the night I fully expect to see Michelle McCool to go through a table with Layla slammed down on top of her giving Natalya and Beth Phoenix the victory. As far as after the match, that’s when things get fun. As the champ and the Glamazon celebrate, Melina runs out with a steel chair in hand and clocks Beth in the back, getting rid of her. Natalya is confused but she starts brawling with Melina. When the A-List Diva gets the upper-hand I expect her to ‘Last Call’ Natalya in the middle of the ring, set up a table, and send the Divas Champion through it. Heel turn completed.

David: Tonight’s Divas Tag Team Tables Match at TLC should be historic! If it was simply Divas Champion Natalya and a returning Beth Phoenix vs. resident bad girls Lay-Cool, that would be exciting enough for me. But add in a rich, interesting storyline (a rarity in WWE) and the hardcore stipulation, and these four girls have a great chance to wrestle a match we’ll remember for a long time. I am not sold on Beth’s friendship with Nattie; sure they might like each other but Nattie has something the Glamazon wants, the championship belt. I think Natalya and Beth Phoenix will defeat Lay-Cool tonight but then once the match is over Beth will slam Natalya through a table, sending her a message: in the end “gold and diamonds” really are a girl’s best friend.

Eric: There are two questions floating around in my head about this match. 1) Do both partners have to go through a table? 2) Is Beth even capable of a stunt like this? Does Layla even have the body mass to go through a table? While I am interested to see what WWE decides to do with the match, I don’t see any heel Beth/heel Melina swerves going on. I predict a short and sweet match. Look for Michelle to go through the table and look for Layla to be slammed on top of her. Natalya and Beth Phoenix will win. Maybe then Natalya will finally get a new challenger.

A History of Divas Going Through Tables

Tonight’s TLC pay per view will see the first ever Divas Tag Team Tables Match, but it wouldn’t be the first time in history that a WWE Diva has gone through a table, however. Oh no!

During WWE’s boom period, the ‘Attitude Era’, many a Diva found herself in that devastating spot — usually courtesy of Bubba Ray Dudley.

Let us reminisce on some good ole fashioned Diva table spots!

Trish Stratus

Before she became the 7-time Women’s Champion and built a legacy befitting of our first ever Diva Dirt Legacy Award, Trish was known as something of a harlot while with Test & Albert. She ended up on the wrong side of a certain Bubba Dudley and ended up paying for it.

TLC in Review: Michelle & Mickie Bow Out 2009 with a Hit

tlcreview

It’s usually this time of year that fans begin to tune out in the build up to Christmas. The December pay per views aren’t really remembered as well as the months prior. However just before the year goes out, the SmackDown Divas have delivered a sleeper hit. Women’s Champion, Michelle McCool successfully defended her belt against Mickie James last night but unlike a myriad of past Divas pay per view matches, this bout seems to be only an opener to a brewing feud. Last night’s match seemed to come as close to ‘feature length’ as WWE will allow the Divas to be and also featured an unusually lively crowd eating up the action. Watch below:

The match kicks off with a cat and mouse chase as Michelle jumps out of the ring immediately, staving away from the four-time Women’s Champion. Upon entering once again, the two Divas lock up in a powerful tussle that sees them roll out of the ring. And already, we’re out of the ring! Still locked up, Mickie thrusts Michelle into the barricade and Michelle retaliates, shoving Mickie into the side of the ring. Nice touch there, showing the intensity between the two Divas. Mickie gets in Michelle’s face in a heated verbal exchange and the expression on Michelle’s face says it all, both Divas did a great job of selling that heat. They carefully get back in the ring, eyes still locked on each other. Mickie screams at Michelle: “I know how to play games, Michelle.” And don’t we know it! Perhaps a slight nod to her first WWE feud.

With the Divas now back on their feet, the champion and challenger go for each other’s hair before being separated by the referee. Mickie quickly goes for a jack knife pin but Michelle kicks out. Mickie manages to knock Michelle off her feet a further two times and goes for a further two pin attempts. Michelle now takes charge, clubbing Mickie and throwing her against the ropes, Mickie manages to lock in a Gail Kim-like christo of sorts while Matt Striker on commentary says, “How can she support that weight.” Wow, Vince and co are going hard for Mickie. It seems such words come all too easily out of Striker’s mouth, I do hope Striker [the person] feels somwhat hesitant when saying them.

Michelle backs Mickie into the corner, slamming her into the turnbuckles and Mickie lays motionless for a good few seconds. Michelle takes control with knee drops followed by knees to the back as the pace of the match begins to slow down. Michelle wipes the mat with Mickie’s face before slamming it back down on the canvas rather viciously. Michelle applies a chin lock as Mickie tries to fight back but Michelle just knocks her back down. Michelle effortlessly throws a few kicks Mickie’s way, suggesting she’s not sweating her opponent.

Women’s Title Match Added to TLC

What Will It Be for TLC?

tlc

We may have just put one pay per view behind us but the trail rolls on, because in just three weeks we get WWE’s next pay per view: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. Now before y’all get excited about a Divas stipulation match, may I remind you about the Hell in a Cell pay per view? Like that, it’s likely that only the main events will be contested in those matches.

With three weeks to go, we have two clear feuds on Raw & SmackDown. The Divas Championship race narrowed last night when Maryse made her return and targeted Melina, while there’s been ongoing animosity between Michelle McCool and Mickie James which could lead to a Women’s Title match. Which brand should get the match? Your Raw & SmackDown Redux writers argue for their show:

Raw (Argument by Erin)
Maryse’s return brings a feeling of immediacy to this pay-per-view opportunity. Whatever heat she has built up from her return (even though I doubt returning while wearing a turkey costume builds much heat) will evaporate soon, and the WWE needs to capitalize on this (relatively) fresh feud ASAP. To pass up this opportunity for a big-scale Divas Championship match would be a mistake; They already blew a similar shot with Alicia and Melina by rushing to have the match before Survivor Series. Though Melina and Maryse won’t have enough time for a proper and full build-up, this match could serve as a formal kick-start to their feud. And, to be honest, I’d much rather see this light the fire under the feud than a bloody Gobbledy Gooker attack. Whether or not a Divas Championship match at TLC would result in a Maryse win, I feel that a worthy feud could be built off of it–Maryse could flaunt her quick win in Melina’s face and start a babyface title chase, or Melina could simply frustrate the arrogant Maryse by batting her away in her first title shot. Either way, it could make for an entertaining feud.

The alternative–a Mickie/Michelle match–has been in the works for much longer, but with the high school mentality that feud has had, is it worthy of the “big time” just yet? What kind of feud can be built off of fat jokes and clothes-cutting? I think those two need to build something more legitimate before they have what is destined to be their “blow off” match. Besides, they just had a big PPV match in the form of the Survivor Series tag team match; I mean, it was literally branded “Mickie vs. Michelle”, wasn’t it? Does SmackDown deserve another PPV match so soon? I think if they were to have another PPV match this soon after the “Team Mickie vs. Team Michelle” match, it might put the brakes on the feud altogether (PPV matches signal the end of feuds, quite often), and they need more room to grow before they reach that endpoint and shift to something else. It would be a case of “too much too soon” in my book. I think it’s time that Raw get the spotlight.
