Winners & Losers: SmackDown 12/13/19

The last show before the TLC pay-per-view is over and it did absolutely nothing for the women of SmackDown. In fact, as of now we don’t have a SmackDown Women’s Championship match for TLC still.

Of course we know that a match can be announced at any moment without it being televised but it was a missed opportunity. In fact – Lacey Evans wasn’t even on the show to officially challenge Bayley.

Who was on the show though was Dana Brooke who continues to get way more air time then she ever did on RAW. She has a decent non-title match with Bayley but of course comes out with a loss.

Just as predicted Fire & Desire had a tag team match against Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross. The best part of this whole interaction was that Fire & Desire ran to the back and attacked Bliss & Cross prior to the start of the match.

For a moment it appeared that they were being given the momentum for a win, but alas in the end Cross would pin Sonya Deville after a neckbreaker.

Let’s get into the Winners & Losers of the night:

WINNER: Dana Brooke

Dana may not have won her match but she is finally being utilized pretty regularly for what it’s worth. Personally it would be nice if she would receive a title match for a change. In a WWE Exclusive, Bayley comments that Dana has been the only one to accept a challenge. It is a long shot but it would be nice to see her vs. Bayley at TLC.

LOSER: Lacey Evans

For whatever reason the ball has been dropped. It could be possible that something may have caused her to not be on Smackdown this week that was out of everyone’s control. However, not having the potential challenger for a title before a pay-per-view present doesn’t look good. Regardless if she was there or not the match could have at least been booked.

LOSERS: Fire & Desire

What makes them being placed on the losers list even worse is that there was a glimpse of hope they would pull out a win. Their early attack prior to the match getting underway was a quick excitement. A quick excitement that quickly burned out as quickly as the match lasted.

If the booking was better they would make a point to this feud. Mandy Rose has been saying that Nikki and Alexa will never be as pretty as her for months now. We get it.

If this feud had perhaps a number one contender implication it could happen on the Kick Off show at TLC. Then again, we would know that outcome.

Paige discusses her debut win of the Divas Championship

Since WWE Backstage has premiered on FS1, Paige has been a constant panelist. On this week’s show, she commented on the day she made her main roster debut on RAW. Her debut happened on the night after WrestleMania XXX in 2014.

On that night, the current Divas Champion Aj Lee was present in the ring glowing after defeating 13 other women in the Vickie Guerrero Invitational to retain her title.

Paige, who was the current NXT Women’s Champion, made her way to the ring to provide a genuine congratulations to Lee. Lee wasn’t having it and didn’t like being interrupted.

After Lee delivered a slap to Paige she challenged her to an impromptu Divas Championship match. Paige would win the title in her short debut by countering out of the Black Widow submission and delivering her Paige Turner finisher.

On WWE Backstage, Paige explained that she didn’t know she was going to be winning the title until the doors for the show were opening. She states they wanted to keep it a secret.

She comments on how calm Lee was about what was going to take place. Paige makes her entrance, cuts her promo, and wins the title and it worked that simply. This ended Lee’s 295-day longest reign in the title’s history which stayed on record until Nikki Bella surpassed it with 301-days.

Paige would continue her feud with Lee for months throughout 2014 while passing the title back and forth for her second reign and Lee’s third.

Trish Stratus & Lita reminisce on their monumental RAW main event

Trish Stratus posted on her social media yesterday to take a trip down memory lane with Lita.

Dec. 6 marked 15-years that Stratus and Lita main evented Monday Night RAW one-on-one for the Women’s Championship. These two women revolutionized women’s wrestling and did it by being both foes and allies throughout their tenure.

Stratus wrote that it was fitting that she was spending her time with her bestie during this anniversary. She went on to say:

“Kicking down doors. Breaking glass ceilings. Grabbing the brass ring. We clawed our way into the history books.”

This duo will forever be in the history of WWE as they have taken their rightful place in the Hall of Fame (Stratus 2013, Lita 2014). This historic match had everything it needed to have to be a classic.

Both women pulled out their signature moves that made their careers. Stratus with her Matrix move and Stratusfaction along with Lita’s Twist of Fate and Moonsault topped off an incredible back and forth match.
