Alundra Blayze talks on the pay gap and fighting for gender equality

WWE Hall of Famer, Alundra Blayze (also known as Madusa) recently sat down with Ring the Belle’s DS Shin for an incredible interview. They went over her fan-voted top five moments, which included the gap between what male and female wrestlers make as far as their wages. The topic was brought up as they were reviewing her WCW Scaffold match alongside Billy Kidman vs. Torrie Wilson and Shane Douglas.

After commenting on the bump she took from the scaffold she had the following to say:

“That is a crazy bump. That’s off the scaffold. A woman jumping and doing that and getting paid jack. Don’t even get me started, when it comes to money in my industry and the women and equality. That situation needs to come up more. Let’s talk about equality. I understand it’s still and always has been a male’s business. But now there’s more and more women and now they are making it, a woman’s done WrestleMania. Top billing, pay-per-views, ladder matches, okay it’s like we have all of that out there. Put it in my paycheck.”

She further agrees with Shin that there is always room for change and wants the women to not only get paid more but there is still a fight for equality as a whole.

Blayze also discusses her iconic move from WWF to WCW at the time with her infamous trashing of the WWF Women’s Championship into a trash can. This was most recently brought up again as a joke when Blayze won the 24/7 Championship at the recent RAW Reunion in July. She mocked throwing it away before Ted Dibiase would instead buy it off of her.

She discusses how she felt that the move to WCW was going to be a focus on women’s wrestling, however, this wasn’t the exact case.

“When I was coming over and that happened I was ready to kill it. I was serious. If they’re (WWF) not going to do anything with me then I need to say, hey, this is where the big girls play. Let’s do something. That was the idea. They were going to want to do something, bring women’s wrestling, and get the whole thing going. And again it laid flat because we had a bunch of men in the damn back in their circle-jerking office booking the thing. It just didn’t happen. There was no women in that booking.”

She wanted to make a statement with women’s wrestling in WCW because she felt that it was deserving and was needed. It worked well for a while but after the competition faded out it was hard to continue.

Shin brought into the discussion her return to the ring at Evolution where she participated in the battle royal match. Blayze would explain how and why she was eliminated in the fashion that she was.

“So you know why I went out like that (how she was eliminated)? I just want to tell everybody, there’s a lot of things that people don’t know. So people will put you down, they’ll do negativity, but no one knows the backstory of anything that’s going on in anybody’s life. I just want you to know, that in that match, I was only seven months post-surgery. I had a double knee replacement. Nobody knew that, and there you go.”

To check out the full interview simply click on the video above. They go over all of her fan-voted top-five moments. This includes her thoughts on intergender wrestling, the trash can incident, and her seeing Vince McMahon for the first time since that incident at her Hall of Fame induction.

Alundra Blayze vs. Bull Nakano SummerSlam 08/29/94

Welcome to Friday! Here is your Free Match Friday of the week.

With SummerSlam just two days away, recently we posted five must-see matches from the history of this event. With so many wonderful matches to choose from there were more that could have been added.

Alundra Blayze (c) vs. Bull Nakano for the WWF Women’s Championship is one that should be revisited. With Luna Vachon in her corner, Nakano sought out to become champion by destroying Blayze. This was the first women’s match to ever be placed on a SummerSlam card.

Was Nakano able to become the new WWF Women’s Champion or was Blayze able to retain her gold?

Take a moment to view this match above and enjoy it as much as the crowd that was there did.

Bull Nakano is making a rare appearance in North America as she will be providing a Meet and Greet prior to the indie women’s supershow The Summit on Aug. 10.

Check back in with Diva Dirt all weekend for coverage of NXT TakeOver: Toronto, SummerSlam, and results from The Summit.

2K Games rolls out entrances, rating system and CAW details for upcoming WWE 2K18

Ahead of WWE 2K18’s release this month, 2K Games released more in-depth details about this year’s game.

With approval from 2K, several YouTuber’s are featuring Superstar entrances. All women’s entrances, except for DLC characters Beth Pheonix and Ruby Riot, have now been released and can be seen below courtesy of DenkOps – Chris Denker:

Additionally, YouTuber The Revelleution has a peak at new Create-a-Wrestler items for women including hairstyles, gear, makeup, and more:

According to IGN, this year’s CAW suite will include:

  • A variety of face templates that represent different races and ethnicities, that you can use as is, or modify to your liking.
  • New Body Types customization to shape the ideal body type to your Superstars.
  •  Hair style flair
  • The ability to place Scars around all over the body.
  • Fully customizable teeth
  • New Material Types such as Carbon Fiber, Glitter, Glow and Black Light.
  • The “infamous” issue with the edges of a design/logo fading out when being stretched, has finally been addressed in WWE 2K18, with a new Logo Mapping method, that allows you to fully wrap the logo around the part.
  • The Stitch Pattern feature from last year has been improved and redesigned, now allowing you to draw the patterns first, apply them and resize them, as well as save them to be re-used on any other Superstar.
  • To go along with the new Lighting System in WWE 2K18, in the Create A Superstar Menu, there is now the ability to preview the different lighting scenarios throughout the game, with options for Backstage, Match Lighting, Day Light, Black Light and Lights Off.
  • The Lighting Preview comes really handy when applying and previewing the Glow and Black Light material, for easier control on how intense you want these effects to be. And you are not limited to just Attires and Clothes. You can also apply these effects to Tattoos, Body Art, and hair as well. And when you combine this with Create An Entrance, you can really create some interesting looks that really help your superstar stand out ala Chris Jericho’s jacket or Naomi‘s GLOW entrance.
  • You will now have more control on the Menu Pose as well. Not only you can choose which pose you want for the body, but hands pose and face expressions can also be individually customized, to give your Superstar a more distinct look. In addition, it’s now also possible to choose the Entrance Attire as a Menu Screen Pose.

2K Games also revealed character rankings for some Superstars:

Missing from the announcement are rankings for Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Ember Moon, Stephanie McMahon, Lita, Ivory, Jacqueline, Trish Stratus, Tamina, Nikki Cross, Summer Rae, Paige, Brie Bella, and Alundra Blayze, along with DLC Characters Beth Phoenix and Ruby Riot.

Other new game modes include create-a-match mode, a Road to Glory mode (akin to My Career but it still doesn’t allow you to play as a female Superstar), WWE Universe mode, and more.

WWE 2K18 will be in stores on October 17, 2017.

What do you think about this preview of the game? Will you be buying it? Who will you play as? Who will you be creating? Sound off in the comments below.
