Four SHIMMER Regulars Confirmed for April

SHIMMER has confirmed that four of their longest standing stars Allison Danger, Daizee Haze, Mercedes Martinez and Sara Del Rey will all be back in April for the new round of tapings. Read the release below:

SHIMMER Women Athletes is pleased to announce the addition of four SHIMMER originals, in the form of former SHIMMER Champion Sara Del Rey, Allison Danger, Daizee Haze, and “The Latina Sensation” Mercedes Martinez to our April 2010 tapings!

SHIMMER returns to the Berwyn Eagles Club (6309 26th Street) in Berwyn, IL, just outside Chicago, on Saturday & Sunday, April 10th & 11th. Bell time on Saturday, 4/10 is 2pm. Doors open at 1pm. Bell time on Sunday, 4/11 is 1pm. Doors open at Noon.

Del Rey, Danger, Daizee, and Mercedes join the previously announced talents Sarah Stock, Ayako Hamada (4/11 only), Madison Eagles, Jessie McKay, Ayumi Kurihara, Hiroyo Matsumoto (4/11 only), Misaki Ohata, Tomoka Nakagawa, MsChif, Cheerleader Melissa, Portia Perez, and Nicole Matthews as those confirmed for the April tapings.

Exclusive: Dishin’ Dirt with SHIMMER’s Daizee Haze

Diva Dirt‘s Steven had the opportunity to speak with SHIMMER veteran, Daizee Haze in an exclusive interview. Daizee discusses being SHIMMER’s head trainer, a future in WWE or TNA and even tries her hand at her own Wrestlicious rap!

First off, thank you Daizee for taking the time out to do this  interview with us. Let’s get right into things: What inspired you to get  into wrestling?
Daizee: Well as a kid I was never allowed to watch wrestling, so it wasn’t something I dreamed of doing or becoming. It wasn’t until 2001 that I was exposed to wrestling and it was the technical amateur style and athleticism that caught my eye, but I saw the way women were portrayed and I wanted to change that.

Who are your idols in the ring, past or present?
Daizee: When I started watching wresting in 2001 Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit were the two that caught my eye and impressed me the most. As far as women go, Molly Holly is probably the woman I admire the most.  Jim Cornette is fabulous all around. Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels are awesome together. And the All Japan women are just on a whole other level.

Last year, we saw you take on Cheerleader Melissa in a match on TNA Impact. How was it performing on such a widely known program?  Were you ever offered a contract or was that a one shot deal?
Daizee: Well I worked for TNA quite a few times when they ran the weekly pay per view out of the Nashville Fairground.  Delirious, Matt Sydal [WWE’s Evan Bourne] and I spent two years going down to there every Wednesday doing dark matches for their Xplosion programme.  So I made a lot of connections over those years, so once they moved to Universal, people were pushing for me to get down there. It was a last minute thing, I think Jazz was supposed to do those tapings but had something come up and couldn’t make it, so Chris [Park, TNA’s Abyss] called me up to see if I could stand in for Jazz and I agreed.  It was a great experience and I am close with alot of the guys and girls down there so it was fun to see everyone and I thought Melissa and I had a pretty good match. I received a lot of positive feedback but never had any kind of follow up with them. When Gail Kim left the company, I know I had a handful of girls including Gail Kim and Traci Brooks that were pushing for me to come in to take her ‘athletic babyface’ position, but I never heard anything from them.

Feuds from the vault returns this week and on its second outing I’ll be writing on little known Irish born Rebecca Knox and her enthralling encounters with Allison Danger and Daizee Haze.

The K-Nox arrived on Shimmer shores in 2006 from Ireland and was a technically orientated athlete. Not only was she a Queens of Chaos champion but she held the ECCW Women’s championship for over nine months.

Mirroring the success of her rival; Allison Danger is no stranger to a title and is also a technically gifted athlete in her own right. She has held the ICWA Ladies Championship along with several other accolades.

The two compliment each other perfectly which added a lot to their matches, despite not being the longest feud. It was one of the best in Shimmer, through match performances alone.

Trying to do the matches justice is no easy feat, the technical ability of the two ladies is almost unrivalled in the independent scene in America.

Where better to begin than Shimmer Volume 3 and Knox’s debut match in Shimmer taking on (the dilute Canadian) Allison Danger.

Shimmer Volume three and the stage was set, with the traditional light hearted start to the match over. The fans were behind both competitors and they begin their technical showcase. The style of both women compliment each other and it is apparent from the onset.

It’s almost an obvious fact that when someone steps into the ring with Allison Danger they are going to be put over and well. This was no different, even though they were on par with one another but to me the experience of Danger gave her a slight edge. The fans in attendance seemed to be impartial as the match was relatively even throughout the early going. However as Rebecca Knox contemplates grabbing the ropes the fans gasp, is this signs of thing to come from the crowd?

As I’m sure you all know, we recently started covering Ring of Honor here at Diva Dirt. ROH, the big brother of all-female promotion SHIMMER, has been featuring SHIMMER matches on their cable show as of late. Welcome to Diva Dirt’s new feature – The Weekly Roundup, a look at the week in television! From Raw, SmackDown, ECW and TNA too, we look back at the week’s highs and lows as well as giving you the opportunity to catch up on what you’ve missed!

MAY 30th – JUNE 5th, 2009

This week has seen some solid TV efforts from WWE, an okay week for TNA and the emergence of women’s wrestling on ROH. This week saw the first time in history that Diva Dirt has covered ROH on HDNet & we’re very happy that we did…

Best Bet: My highlight of the week came from ROH, as it incorporated sister promotion, SHIMMER into it’s broadcast. I have to be honest and say I haven’t really seen much of SHIMMER or any of these girls before but I was thoroughly impressed by the triple threat match on HDNet last Saturday. If you haven’t yet seen it, check it out after the cut – it’s well worth it. I hope ROH does more “SHIMMER Lite” segments in future. (PS: I’m already preferring ROH’s production style to TNA’s rollercoaster sickness style on Impact).

Honourable Mention: Like last week, SmackDown gives us our honourable mention of the week with an outstanding six Divas tag team match.

Low Point: I felt this week’s Impact didn’t see a strong enough followup to last week’s fantastic debut of the former Victoria. Not only has she been renamed ‘Tara’, but she’s also stuck in a one minute segment from a two hour broadcast. Not a good followup at all.

They say that dynamite comes in small packages. That has never been more true than in the case of Daizee Haze. Pound for pound, this flower toting phenom is one of the toughest girls in SHIMMER.
 
In the 7 years since her debut, Daizee has wrestled in Ring Of Honor, TNA and a whole mess of midwest promotions. All while spreading love with her peace-loving, pot smoking hippie gimmick. She’s even been a valet to Matt Sydal or as you may know him Evan Bourne. 
 
While she’s slight in stature, Daizee has had some of the most exciting matches in women’s wrestling. She’s gone head to head with Mickie “Moose” Knuckles, Lacey, Cheerleader Melissa aka Raisha Saeed and current Knockouts Champion, Awesome Kong.
