NXT Lay-Kav-Ool Watch (August 3rd, 2010): Wasting Away In Margaritaville

Last night’s episode of NXT was a hot mess, and I’m still trying to figure out if that’s a good or bad thing in this case. I knew something interesting was going to happen when the Mediacom digital menu said “the first ever kissing contest is held.” What I didn’t expect was the sheer hotness that was Layla/Kaval, the pure joy of seeing Michael McGillicutty and Percy Watson lose, and the weird, overwhelming urge to make out with Alex Riley take over me. I experienced many emotions last night, as did a lot of you who are going to read this. With a lack of anything else to say in this introduction (because words can’t truly describe how epic NXT was… ) I say we get right on down to business!

NXT kicked off with the introduction of the pros and then the rookies. The rookies all went to the ring where Matt Striker basically addressed the situation from last week and told the rookies that tonight they all had to get on the same page. He told them that their challenge for tonight is a kissing contest and while they looked confused/stunned/shocked, he introduced the sexiest women on television, the self-proclaimed co-Women’s Champions, Laycool! Michelle McCool and Layla slowly stood up and looked at each other, before making their way to the ring. Each woman had her own tube of lipgloss and they both took the time to generously apply a new amount using Michelle’s belt for a mirror. Eventually, Laycool end up in the ring and Striker happily tells them that the show is all theirs.

Raw Redux (August 2nd, 2010): An A-List Return

Last week, Alicia Fox managed to overcome The Bella Twins switcheroo and pull out yet another win. She even took out her buddy Jillian afterwards, proving that no one is safe from the ‘Foxy One’s’ wrath. This week, Alicia teamed up with Jillian and Tamina to face off against the team of Eve Torres, Gail Kim and Natalya with a very special appearance by a certain A-List Diva. Check out the match below:

We start off the match with the face team already in the ring, posing to the crowd. Next the heels make their way to the ring and to be honest, Jillian doesn’t look too thrilled to be teaming with Alicia after last week. More on that later. The referee rings the bell and the match is underway with Jillian and Gail kicking things off for their respective teams.

The two Divas lock up and jockey for position, with Jillian getting the upper-hand, taking Gail down with a handful of hair and laying in with some stiff right hands. The non-melodious siren follows up with a hair beel for a two count. Frustrated, Jillian pulls Gail up by the hair and drives her head into her knee repeatedly, followed by a backbreaker for another near fall. Jillian drags Gail over to her corner and takes a moment to stare down her partner Alicia before tagging her in. Guess who’s still bitter?

Lucha Libre USA (July 30, 2010): Enter Kong

The wait is over! At last, the unstoppable force of nature known as Awesome Kong is back on our television screens. Tonight is her debut on MTV2’s Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors. Will the team of Chi Chi & Tigresa Caliente (former TNA Knockout Rhaka Khan) be able to overcome Mini Park and Kong? Watch and see…

Out first is the Fabulous Chi Chi (sporting a pink feather boa, pink tiger-striped pants, and pink stars on his chest as well as a pink wig) with his partner in crime Tigresa Caliente, who is dressed to kill in a tiger striped outfit and half a tiger mask. This woman is fierce and I don’t even care that Tyra Banks may’ve overused that word. Its the only word that describes how utterly awesome Tigresa looks. Not gonna lie, I was a fan of hers in TNA because of how exotic, beautiful and fit she was. She had presence and I’m thrilled to see her here. The two enter to Lady GaGa’s “Bad Romance” – you can never go wrong with GaGa. But apparently these two have no idea who Mini Park’s partner is. They’re in for a shock…

Out comes Mini Park to a rendition of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” in a black ensemble with a skeleton’s outline on the front and back. He grooves his way to the ring. After he takes off his jacket, Chi Chi and Tigresa decide not to wait for his partner. They grab hands and attempt a double clothesline. Park ducks and scrambles to the outside, ducking under the ring. Chi Chi follows while Tigresa positions herself on the outside, waiting eagerly for Park to emerge so she can get her claws in him. Chi Chi’s got someone’s leg under the ring and is pulling for all he’s worth!

SmackDown Redux (July 30th, 2010): She’s Insatiable, But She’s Not Champ…

This week’s Friday Night SmackDown boasted a big Women’s Championship match between Layla and Tiffany. When spoilers hit the web this past Tuesday of a swerve, well quite frankly, it should have come as no surprise. WWE has a habit of advertising one thing and delivering another. Instead, we get Michelle McCool defending the Women’s Title against Tiffany.

In a less than 8-minute segment, it sure is funny just how much they crammed in… Watch below:

We open with the challenger walking down the corridor with her Blondetourage teammate, Kelly Kelly. They bump into Rosa Mendes and exchange hellos, despite Kelly facing Rosa in the ring a few weeks ago. So Rosa is a babyface now? Whatever. I don’t get these random workout scenes. Just put out a workout DVD or axe her. Seriously. What’s the point anymore?

Lay-Cool are out first to the ring and it should probably be a big, glaring neon sign that things aren’t going to be as they seem when Michelle, too, is in ring gear despite Layla being the advertised combatant.

Vickie Guerrero comes out and announces as co-Women’s Champions, it will be Michelle defending the belt tonight as Tiffany’s chances of winning hit rock bottom. In kayfabe, it seems plausible for Tiffany to defeat Layla to become champion but Michelle? The commentators play up that Michelle is a beast in the ring and this match just got very one sided.

NXT Lay-Kav-Ool Watch (July 27th, 2010): Laycool Takes A Spill, Kaval Drops, Mustache Out!

Tonight’s jammed packed episode of NXT brought forth a well deserved elimination, a ton of Lay-Kav-Ool cuteness, more Percy Watson idiocy, and a newly ranked number one rookie which some people may very well find questionable. With so much going on tonight, it’s going to be hard to touch on all of it. So buckle your seat belts. Welcome everyone to NXT (the Lay-Kav-Ool recap version)!!!!!

Those of us who love Kaval definitely got all we could handle of him tonight and then some! In addition to an in-ring promo, we got a Kaval video package, backstage segment with Laycool and Husky Harris, and a great match. The backstage segment began immediately after Kaval’s video package concluded. Michelle McCool and Layla were making a fuss over him, like usual. They were wanting to know why he wasn’t smiling, where his pink Laycool shirt was, and then Layla demanded to know if Kaval was hurt. Before he could answer, Michelle wanted to know who did it too him and while Kaval was trying to speak over the two pros, Husky Harris purposely bumped into the smaller man. Husky, in the role of schoolyard bully claimed he didn’t see Kaval standing there because you know, Kaval is so little. Husky went on to say that Kaval just isn’t very noticeable which drew the wrath of Laycool. Michelle flipped out and screamed at Husky that Kaval was noticeable which is why he was ranked number one. Layla got an attitude and started screaming number one while Michelle continued to berate Husky and ask him where he was in the last poll. They attempt to get up in Husky’s face but Kaval holds them back from doing any damage to the Army Tank. Husky is just beside himself with amusement over this whole situation. He calls the situation “precious” and accuses Kaval of letting his girlfriends do the talking for him. Kaval fires back that he doesn’t have to speak. He does all his talking in the ring. Both men agree that they are going to have fun with each other tonight. Kaval smirks at the end and walks away, and the girls follow him. But believe me, they get their parting shots in as well. Michelle, with attitude and malice dripping from her voice, stares down Husky Harris and tells him that that is real talk. Layla echoes and they follow behind Kaval as the scene fades on a sneering Husky Harris.

When NXT returns, Michelle’s theme is playing and Kaval is in the ring. Jamie Keyes, who looks amazing, announces him and the bell rings to start the match. Husky goes right for Kaval, but the 10-year veteran has everything under control as he kicks at Harris and sends him back. Harris plans another course of attack, but Kaval is ready for this as well. Finally, Husky manages to use his size advantage to take Kaval into the corner and he begins to beat him down. Kaval absorbs the blows and when Husky goes to toss him across the ring, Kaval pulls off a somersault to land on his feet and get back into the match. Laycool cheer for this and encourage the crowd to do so as well. Kaval gets poised to strike in the corner as Husky comes charging at him. Kaval’s feet connect with Husky’s face and then as Husky is off balance, Kaval flies at him and sends him down to the mat. Laycool absolutely mark and I wish I could say what Cody is doing, but the camera doesn’t want to show him. Ha!

Raw Redux (July 26, 2010): Gone in Sixty Seconds

After a mysterious (and illogical) absence from last week’s Raw, Divas Champion Alicia Fox is back in action this week in a non-title bout against Brie Bella (Bella Twin #1). Will the twin Divas manage to switch their way to a upset victory over the champ? Check out the match below:

First out are The Bella Twins, who are dressed identically (I wonder why…) in electric blue. Cole and King use this time to plug the sponsor, which means I have to hear more of the Bellas entrance theme than I should. I think I’d rather watch a Khali match… The champion is out next and she’s making her way to the ring rather quickly. I guess Cena went over his allotted time this week, so the Divas have to pick up the slack as usual. The referee rings the bell and the match is on.

Alicia doesn’t waste any time going to work on Brie, laying in a kick to the gut. Alicia throws Brie into the turnbuckle, then rams her back first into the corner. Alicia snatches up Bella #1 by the hair and executes a fierce irish whip, sending Brie to the mat. Alicia proceeds to stomp out poor Brie until the ref pulls her off.

While the referee is preoccupied with Alicia, Nikki and Brie go for their patented switcheroo to turn the tables on the champ. Unfortunately for the identical beauties, Jillian makes her way to ringside and blocks their attempt to switch out. Alicia and the referee turn their attention back to the Bellas and Alicia lands a stiff kick on Bella #2, sending her down to the floor. Alicia tries to get back in control of the match, but Brie rolls her up with a school boy for a near fall. Before Brie can get in anymore offense, Alicia kicks her in the gut before landing a brutal axe kick for the win.

SmackDown Redux (July 23rd, 2010): “Skirt Tiffany?!”

Following a successful pay per view title defense last Sunday at Money in the Bank, Women’s Champion Layla relaxed this week on SmackDown as she was thrown a celebratory party by BFF, Michelle McCool. ROH Recap (July 19th, 2010): Jamilia Craft vs Sara Del Rey

After a week long hiatus, we are back with the ROH Recap! Two weeks ago, we seen the impressive rookie, ‘Jumpin’ Jamilia Craft, take her mentor, Daizee Haze, to the limit. This week she faces a bigger (literally and figuretively) task, having to grapple with one of the strongest women in the business, Sara Del Rey.

The bell rings as Jamilia proceeds with the code of honor, extending her hand to Sara, but instead gets a huge boot upside her head. Sara takes advantage of a dazed Jamilia by hooking her from behind and delivering a belly to back suplex, keeping her fingers locked for the pin. Is the match over already? Jamilia doesn’t think so as she rolls her shoulders off the mat before the three count. Sara’s jaw drops in disbelief and her facial expression screams “This b!tch did not just kick out?!”. Sure enough, she says “This bitch?!”. Sorry Sara, but it’s going to take more than that to keep this woman down.

Sara gets up and kicks at Jamilia like she’s dirt on the side of a road. Sara then takes her to the ropes, shoving her head through the middle, and proceeds to choke Jamilia out with the most pressure coming from her legs. While this is happening, Sara and her cronies taunt the crowd.

Sara decides to make her way to the apron and delivers multiple kicks to the chest of Jamilia. Jamilia crumbles to the mat as Sara goes for another quick pin. Jamilia shows she still has some fight left as she kicks out again.

Raw Redux (July 19, 2010): The Champ Isn’t Here

After losing yet another title match at Money in the Bank, Eve Torres is set out to redeem herself against former Divas champion, Maryse. Check out the match below:

Out first is Eve in her orange and gold gear from Money in the Bank. Unlike my colleagues, I really like this color on her. The gold is a bit much, but I think she looks great. Next out is Maryse, who is being accompanied my Ted Dibiase. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… Ted DiBiase is bland as all get out and Maryse is really outshining him in this pairing. I’m actually having trouble distinguish which of them is the eye candy here.

Before the match starts, Maryse removes her expensive jewelry (Why did you wear it to the ring in the first place?) and gets in Eve’s face in her usual arrogant fashion. Apparently, Eve isn’t in the mood for Maryse attitude tonight, so she piefaces her to kick things off. Eve tries to capitalize but is taken down by a kick to the gut and a slap to the face. Maryse then kicks Eve towards the ropes and chokes her out from behind.

While Maryse is pummeling poor Eve, Ted makes sure to let the commentary team and that Maryse is NOT a golddigger (very convincing) and that this is also a #1 contender’s match. Good to know… halfway into the match. *Sigh*

TNA Xplosion Watch (July 14, 2010): When Former Partners Collide

(Apologies for the belated Xplosion report! This one slipped by me. Apparently it happened a day before the street fight we saw on Impact.)

It was bound to happen. Not content to keep their implosion behind the scenes, we finally see Sarita take on her former tag team partner Taylor Wilde tonight. Their similar styles and exciting ring work together makes me anticipate this all the more. Who’ll come out on top?

Out first is Sarita, in a blue and lime green one piece outfit. She’s taking a page from the Zack Ryder playbook however…there’s a piece missing from her right shoulder down to her upper arm. Okay. Brimming with confidence, she smugly makes her way down the ramp. It’s all about Sarita now! Next comes Taylor Wilde in her silver and black bikini top and skirt. Very cute! After a pose for the crowd, Taylor has her game face on as she marches to the ring, pointing at Sarita. Any hesitation Taylor may have felt about facing her former partner is gone, replaced by a focus that is pin point.

As she climbs into the ring, Sarita has her hands up in a “hold on” gesture. She…apparently wants to shake hands with Taylor? At first, Wilde isn’t buying it. But Sarita is insistent…Taylor takes her hand and both women shake, then separate. Huh. This is a far cry from the ruthless, cold woman that we’ve seen the brunette morph into. Interesting. The bell rings and the two circle each other.

Raw Redux (July 12, 2010): Catfights, Insults and Second Chances

Raw’s sly Diva, Alicia Fox picked a picked up a win that can only be called controversial last week when she defended her title against Eve Torres. Obviously, Eve has unfinished business with the champ, as she finds her way to commentary for Alicia’s non-title match with Gail Kim this week. Check out the match below:

We start with Eve already at ringside, posing and waving to the fans (One of her favorite pastimes, along with salsa dancing.) She joined Lawler and Cole on commentary as the Divas Champion makes her to the ring.

Alicia is clad in a brand new piñata skirt, this time in red and I must say, it’s an improvement over her last two even if it still looks like she raided a Party City store to make it. While Alicia struts her stuff in the ring and taunts Eve, they show a replay of last week’s match and how Alicia picked up the win.

Out next is her opponent, Gail Kim, who is looking phenomenal tonight. Gail does the usual babyface posing for the crowd before stepping in the ring to face the champ. The referee rings the bell and the match is underway.

TNA Xplosion Watch (July 7th, 2010): Lottalove and Lottahate

The past few weeks we’ve seen the implosion of the team Saritaylor on TNA Xplosion. Apparently fed up with lack of TV time and wins, Sarita violently turned on Taylor Wilde. Tonight, we see the return of Rosie Lottalove as she takes on Taylor Wilde. Will the Dark Angel make an impact here as she has the last few weeks?

We see Rosie Lottalove relaxing before her match. She speaks of what makes her different from the knockouts, her determination to become Knockouts Champion “very soon,” and her upcoming match with Taylor Wilde. She knows Taylor is a former KO champion and that she’s small and fast. But Rosie is smart – she’ll catch Taylor and that’ll be all she wrote. The usual play on her size is all over this promo, but to be honest I’m distracted by that ten ton of eyeshadow on her eyes. Looks like the late Tammy Faye Baker. Rosie’s really beautiful without the gobs of makeup, I wish she’d tone it down.

We switch to Taylor Wilde who’s sitting on the floor of the locker room. She’s despondant yet fustrated with the blowout of her partnership and friendship with Sarita. She feels lost stepping into the ring without her friend and doesn’t know where things will go from here. One thing’s for certain – she’s taking all this pent up fustration out on Rosie Lottalove tonight. As we cut away from her, we see Sarita enter the building. She’s not about to discuss why she’s here either.

SmackDown Redux (July 9th, 2010): Look Who’s Talking…

It’s rare to see Divas being given promo time… they’re usually just thrown out there for their standard three minute match. So imagine my surprise when all of the Divas were given speaking parts this week. After main eventing Superstars last night, the ‘main’ Divas, Lay-Cool and Kelly were pretty much given the night off this week on SmackDown — save for a backstage segment. Watch below:

Josh Mathews announces that Kelly Kelly will challenge the official WWE Women’s Champion, Layla at the Money in the Bank pay per view next week and asks for Kelly’s thoughts. Before she can even get a word in, in comes Layla taunting her. Layla takes a can of spray out but before she can do anything, Kelly smacks it out of her hand and grabss Layla by the throat rather viciously. “What are you gonna do, huh?” she says to Layla.

However, Michelle McCool makes the save, attacking Kelly from behind. The two Divas beat down the #1 Contender and Michelle smashes her head against the ground. As they leave, Tiffany and some referees come to check on her, although the damage has been done.

A really short segment but after an extremely satisfying 8-minute match on Superstars last night, I’m not complaining. Kelly’s aggression with Layla was fantastic and finally, I feel like I’m seeing something from this girl. Usually, she’s just so happy and smiley and lacks a fire and desire but here, you could see that fire in her. She’s finally fed up of Layla and Michelle and is ready to fight. Good way to set up their title match.

The beatdown on Kelly was also nicely done and sets up this match pretty well, with some real animosity between these Divas now. That’s all I ask for: make it seem real. I want to see a real tension and animosity between these girls heading into pay per view matches and they did that. But my concern is that next week, they’ll lose all this momentum just two days before the pay per view. Hopefully not.

For Rosa & Serena, follow the cut:

WWE Superstars Redux (July 8th, 2010): Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun

On WWE Superstars, we were treated to Divas starting the show and ending the show. First match we saw Gail Kim teaming with Yoshi Tatsu to take on Jillian and Primo. But what of the feud between Jillian and the Bella Twins?

As Superstars begins, we hear “You can look but you can’t touch” blare over the loudspeakers. Out come Nikki and Brie Bella – in matching referee outfits! The announcer tells us that the Twins are our special guest referees for the following match. You can guess hijinks are about to ensue. Out first is Primo and Jillian, and our Songstress does not look happy to see who the referees are. Jillian’s sporting a nice sky blue outfit tonight. Out next is Yoshi and Gail Kim, who’s looking good in yellow tonight. We hear Michael Cole explain that one Bella will be inside the ring and one will be on the outside. But neither him nor Lawler can tell who’s inside the ring at the moment… and neither can I.

Gail and Jillian start things off. They lock up and Gail has Jillian by the arm but not for long – Jillian simply SHOVES Gail down with a hand to Gail’s face. Jillybean’s temper is flaring already! Picking her up via the hair, Jillian takes the moment to jaw at Bella Ref #1, before throwing Gail back down using her hair. She goes for the cover but only gets one. Disgust is all over the blonde’s face – she clearly should’ve gotten the win right there!

Picking her up once again using the hair (Bella Ref #1 repeatedly warning Jillian about abuse of hair), Jillian snaps Gail down to the mat and follows up with a stiff kick to the back. Whipping Gail off the ropes, Jillian is met with a kick to the head, followed up with a clothesline that sends both women to the mat. Jillian crawls over to Primo and tags out. According to mixed tag rules, Yoshi comes in automatically but not before Primo eyes Gail with a rather unpleasant grin. She rolls to the side as Yoshi comes in.
