SmackDown Redux (October 8th, 2010): So Natalya Versus Lay-Cool Isn’t Over?

Previously on WWE television…

Natalya faced off against Michelle McCool, one-half of the self proclaimed co-Diva’s Unified Champions, in a riveting match at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. The third generation Diva defeated the champion by disqualification when Michelle’s partner-in-crime, the vivacious Layla interfered by throwing her shoe. Natalya was left in the ring with a hollow victory and no title to show for it. The next night on Raw, Natalya got a chance to take three seconds of her frustration out on Alicia Fox, and picked up a win, while Lay-Cool fell to defeat thanks to a dastardly twin switch orchestrated by those darn Bella twins! Those events led the majority of us to think that perhaps Lay-Cool versus Natalya was officially over. But maybe it’s not! Tonight, Layla steps inside in the ring against long-time rival, Kelly Kelly. Michelle will be at ringside but guess who will be joining her…

The team of Lay-Cool are the first to enter the ring on this glorious Friday night. Layla is wearing her SmackDown best and Michelle is wearing a T-shirt that has been constructed to say “Flawless Dynasty.” Lay-Cool play to the crowd who thank their lucky stars that the two girls aren’t wearing microphones tonight. Their ring entrance is short lived because pretty soon Kelly and Natalya make their way to the ring. Kelly is supporting her American heritage with a red, white, and blue flag attire and Nattie is dressed in her usual pink and black. Layla and Michelle aren’t so excited to see Kelly and they immediately begin to hold their noses and act like her smell is the worse than the a men’s locker-room after football practice. From the outside of the ring, Michelle gives Layla some last minute instructions and when the bell rings Layla scoots into the ring and locks up with Kelly.

Layla wraps Kelly in a headlock and flips her down to the mat on her back. She goes for a quick cover but Kelly is out after the one count. Both girls scamper to their feet and Kelly goes for Layla and throws her down on the mat. Layla rolls out of the way and gets up, clearly pissed off. She shoves Kelly who takes it like a woman, and then shoves Layla back just a little harder. Kelly attempts to follow it up but Layla kicks her right in the stomach, wrenches the arm, and then follows it up with another kick, this time to the ribs. Kelly tries to hook her arms around Layla’s waist but Layla backs her up to the ropes and nails her with an elbow to the side of the skull. Layla kicks Kelly in the stomach once again and this time the happy-go-lucky blond awkwardly falls through the ropes. Layla distracts the referee and Michelle sneaks up behind Kelly and kicks her again just for the hell of it. That prompts Natalya to come around the ring from the other side. The referee stops her before she can do anything and Layla slides out of the ring to get her opponent. Kelly is tossed back into the ring.

Mickie James Debut Scores High Ratings for Impact

16

New TNA Knockout, Mickie James‘ debut on TNA Impact last night scored high ratings in the quarter hour breakdown.

According to ProWrestling.net, James’ debut as well as the preceding Knockouts match scored a 1.40 rating in quarter three. That makes it the second most watched segment of the night.

Quarter five, which featured the follow-up to the Mick Foley vs Ric Flair match, was the highest rated segment with a 1.44.

Still a very solid night for the Knockouts and a great start for Mickie in TNA. Congrats!

Here’s the interview with Mickie James that aired on TNA Reaction last night, following Impact.

You can check out Jen’s write-up for full coverage of Impact.

Impact Write-Up (October 7, 2010): Guess Who’s Back!

It was a very special TNA Impact last night: only days before Bound for Glory, TNA went live and promised us a spectacular show. Did it live up to the hype? There’s tons to talk about, so lets get right to it!

After a painful segment between Abyss, Dixie Carter, Eric Bischoff and various other male talents, we switch to an outside area where a car has just pulled up. Who exits but the country singer/wrestler Mickie James! The cameraman asks what she’s doing here. James is coy, saying only that we’ll have to watch and see. She looks good, rocking the beads threaded into her hair. Taz exclaims, “Mike, that WAS Mickie James!” Well no shit, Sherlock. We get an announcement from our fearless commentators that up next is the tag team match between Tara and the Madison Rayne vs. Angelina Love and Velvet Sky that will determine who owns the rights to “The Beautiful People” name and music. Should be interesting to see if any tensions regarding the upcoming pay-per-view match manifest in this one tonight…

Male Wrestler Booked for WSU’s iPPV on November 6th

Could we see an intergender match live on pay per view? Former TNA star, Homicide has been booked for the show and will make a challenge at the event. Press release below:

BREAKING NEWS: “The Notorious 187” Homicide makes WSU Debut on 11/6!
– WSU received an interesting call today, as former World Champion Homicide contacted WSU to let us know that he wants to be in the house on 11/6. Homicide has asked for time to make a special challenge on 11/6. WSU prides ourselves on being a womens wrestling company and in being a company that promotes womens wrestling in a positive manner. However, WSU respects the accomplishments and career of Homicide. WSU has agreed to give Homicide an open microphone on 11/6, where Homicide will make his challenge.

If the 11/6 card wasn’t big enough, we can now guarantee Homicide’s return to iPPV! Who does Homicide have his eye on? And more importantly, what does Homicide want from an all women wrestling company? WSU doesn’t even know what Homicide has in store for 11/6, and the only way to find out is to be there live or to watch us live on iPPV on 11/6. We’ll have more on Homicide in a future update.

Mickie James Comments on Her Return to TNA

4

Following her big debut on Impact last night, Mickie James sent out the following tweet:

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who tuned into TNA last night… And for all your amazing comments! Wow! I had no idea… I’m truly honored & I went to bed on an incredible high… Its good to be back!

No doubt, it was a buzz worthy moment that has the whole Internet talking. All eyes, once again, are on the Knockouts division. Let’s hope that this can be the start of a new golden period for the Knockouts.

Neck Is still messed up ); but I’m going to keep streching it and put ice on it.

Our best wishes to Maxine on a speedy recovery!

Mickie James Makes TNA Debut, Will Appear at Bound for Glory PPV

10

Former WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie James has made her TNA debut after signing with the company a few weeks ago.

James appeared following the Knockouts tag team match, cutting a promo introducing herself as the newest TNA Knockout. Mickie made her intentions known right off the bat, noting that she is looking to make history as the first woman to hold all the major titles in wrestling. Already a former WWE Women’s and Divas Champion, the Knockouts Championship would rank as the trifecta for Mickie as a singles competitor.

Additionally, Mickie will appear at this Sunday’s Bound for Glory pay per view as the special guest referee for the Knockouts Championship match. Angelina Love will defend the title against Madison Rayne, Tara and Velvet Sky in a fatal four way match.

Following her debut tonight, the phrase ‘Mickie’ became one of the top trending topics worldwide on Twitter.

In Video: Stacy Keibler Punched Out by ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin on ‘Chuck’

12

Here are scenes from this past Monday’s episode of ‘Chuck’ on NBC, as former WWE stars Stacy Keibler and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin were reunited.

In a short fight sequence (ironic given their shared past career), Stacy is punched out by Stone Cold. It was pretty fun and nostalgic seeing them on screen together.

Lita Speaks on WWE Retiring Women’s Championship, Would Return to the Ring

43

Former WWE Women’s Champion, Lita aka Amy Dumas made an appearance on the In Your Head radio show last night and noted that she would return to the ring ‘just for fun’ and also gave her opinion on WWE retiring the Women’s Championship.

The four-time Women’s Champion said on the subject of the belt being retired: “It only means something when whoever the current wrestler is takes pride in making it mean something because I can’t say that Harvey Wippleman gave a lot of credit to the Women’s Title. [Laughs] Or you know… I could make a laundry list from there.”

“I mean, the only time that people really cared about the Women’s Title,” Dumas continues, “was when it was in a hot feud or when somebody took pride in making something out of it.”

When asked if she had thought about going back to wrestling, Dumas says: “I will say that recently I have a little bit, just for fun. I’m training for a personal training certification so I’m in pretty decent shape. My body feels really good, so I feel like I could. Not from a schedule perspective… I wouldn’t want to be on the road, but I would not be opposed to slapping somebody for fun or coming in and saying hello with a dropkick.”

You can listen to the full interview here, where Amy also talks about her send-off promo at Survivor Series 2006, whether WWE has approached her to return and also comments on Matt  Hardy’s latest Internet antics.

Former Diva Backstage at TNA Impact Taping (Spoiler)

30

Possible spoiler for tonight’s live TNA Impact below:

Spoiler
Former WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie James is backstage in Orlando for tonight’s live episode of TNA Impact, reports ProWrestling.net.

Mickie could make her debut for the company tonight. Yesterday, James tweeted that she was getting a tan and had a hair appointment which led many to believe that she was prepping for her TNA debut. James also tweeted this morning about being on a jetliner plane.

As reported a few weeks ago, James has signed a deal with TNA and has largely been expected to debut either tonight or at Sunday’s Bound for Glory pay per view. From what I was told, James will be presented as the ‘centrepiece’ of the Knockouts division.

Angelina Love Was ‘Skeptical’ Over Beautiful People Reunion

10

TNA Knockouts Champion, Angelina Love reveals that she was ‘skeptical’ over a babyface reunion with Velvet Sky in TNA, in a new interview with SLAM! Sports. She says:

“It’s been different working as a babyface. I was very skeptical at first, because it’s so easy to do that character as a heel. But the fans really accepted it, and they’ve been really happy about it, especially to have us going against Madison.”

Obviously, the reunion took off, scoring the highest rated segment on Impact the week it aired. However, often watching Impact and Reaction, it’s hard to tell who are the heels and who are the faces between Madison/Tara and Angelina/Velvet. If I was a new viewer and had no idea what was going on, I’d be hard pressed to know that Angelina/Velvet were the babyfaces in this feud, since they all act so similar with their potty mouths.

Angelina also commented on her future in wrestling:

“I know that I’m not going to be able to wrestle forever, that my body will one day not let me continue to do it,” she said. “But, my body is still moving, I’m not burned out on travel, and I still love it — it’s still fun. So I definitely want to keep doing it.”

“(My current contract goes) until the end of 2012, so I definitely want to be doing that,” she said about her longer-term plans. “Eventually, I definitely want to get into acting. I feel that I speak well, and I can play a good character.”

All in all, an insightful interview. You can check out the full piece here.

Angelina will, of course, be part of tonight’s live Impact broadcast at 9pm ET on Spike TV.

NXT Redux (October 5th, 2010): Jamie Says Goodbye While Aksana Shines

Five weeks of build, anticipation, heart break, and horror culminated last night in the very first elimination for season three of NXT. One poor girl would have her dreams shattered as she is sent packing back to Tampa. Also this week, the Aksana/Goludst angle heats up as an immigration officer rears his ugly head (literally… he has an ugly head) and threatens our favorite Lithuanian. The Rookie Divas try their best to master the art of faux bull riding and of course, a Diva talent show takes place.

Dun dun duuuuuuuuuuun!

This surely gets redundant but once again NXT (now exclusively on WWE.com) kicks off in grandiose fashion with Matt Striker announcing the rookie Divas. Naomi, Aksana, AJ, Jamie, Maxine, and Kaitlyn make their way onto the stage where the Pros (including Alicia Fox, Vickie Guerrero, Kelly Kelly, Brie Bella, and Nikki Bella) are already sitting. Striker teases the girls that this is the biggest night of their young careers. He explains how things are going to work tonight and then brings us into our first rookie challenge of the evening.

It’s a bull riding competition complete with mechanical bull.

Update on Vicky Skeeles: New Name in WWE

18

As we exclusively broke over the weekend, WWE has signed a new talent in 23-year old British female wrestler Vicky Skeeles.

Skeeles, who is originally from Gloucester, England, reported to FCW last week after being signed over the summer. According to her Twitter page, Vicky is now going by the name of Verity Thomas in FCW.

Meanwhile, TheSun.co.uk, the online outlet for Britain’s biggest newspaper, has picked up our story on Skeeles’ signing. Check it out here.

Layla’s SmackDown vs Raw Character Model Partially Revealed

A headshot for co-Unified Divas Champion, Layla‘s SmackDown vs Raw 2011 character model has been revealed at the official website for the game.

Despite being one of the most prominent Divas on the roster in the past year, Layla’s character model was not included in the first flurry of pictures, because she won’t be part of the main roster on the game. Layla will instead be a downloadable character that you can purchase closer to Christmas time.

The reason for that is supposedly to do with her character model needing updating, thus missing the cut-off date to make the main roster. Still a huge oversight, in my opinion, that she isn’t part of the initial release.

What do you think of the headshot?

Jamie is First Eliminated from NXT 3

19

NXT has announced its first casualty: Jamie was the first Rookie Diva eliminated from the third season of the show tonight.

Jamie, who was being mentored by Brie and Nikki Bella, thanked the fans and her Pros after the announcement.

Kaitlyn, as a result of winning the most challenges in the first four weeks, was immune from the vote-off, however.

Meanwhile, it looks as though WWE has axed the Pros’ Poll element of NXT this season, with Jamie being cut by a random generator on the Titantron instead of the usual rankings list. This obviously means that fans will have no idea regarding how well each of the Rookie Divas are doing this season.

Did the right person go home tonight? Sound off in the comments…

NXT Spoilers for Tonight

28

Spoilers for tonight’s episode of NXT below:

Spoiler
* Tonight’s show opens with a Rookie Challenge. It’s a mechanical bull riding competition. The Bella Twins demonstrate and Aksana wins among the Rookies. The crowd was absolutely dead for the segment.

* Aksana b. Maxine with a reverse pin attempt. The match was sloppy with several notable botches. Aksana’s Pro, Goldust, came out with the Million Dollar Championship belt he captured from Ted DiBiase on last night’s edition of Raw.

* The Raw Rebound segment airs, recapping John Cena’s situation with The Nexus from last night’s show.

* Another Rookie Challenge is up. This time it’s a talent show for the NXT Divas. Aksana did weird contorted push-ups, Naomi rapped, AJ did some acrobatic moves, Jamie “turned men on” by kissing Matt Striker and Kaitlyn drew Vickie Guerrero then made fun of her. Maxine cut a promo apologizing to Hornswoggle for last week, saying she baked him a pie. He came out and she smeared some of it on his face. He took the rest of the pie and slammed it in her face. Kaitlyn is named the winner by the response of the crowd. Due to the fact Kaitlyn and AJ have both won three Rookie Challenges, the crowd got to choose who got immunity from being eliminated. Kaitlyn was awarded immunity.

* Backstage, Aksana tells Goldust she has four weeks to get her paperwork in order before she is deported.

* WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler comes out with Vickie Guerrero for her match against Kaitlyn. There is a lot of stalling to start the match with Dolph looking conflicted between them. Kaitlyn gets a quick pin after Dolph accidentally distracts Vickie. Kaitlyn tries to celebrate with Dolph who acts innocent. Vickie leaves Dolph and Kaitlyn in the ring together.

* Jamie is eliminated from the show to end this week’s episode of WWE NXT. (Source: Wrestling News World)
