SmackDown!: The Award Goes To…

Maryse for Best Comedic Performance! Oh Jesus, if you haven’t had a good old laugh in quite a while… this will certainly do it for you! Remember this video from a few weeks ago, when Cherry slapped Maryse and she had a violent fit? Well turns out that Maryse’s wild (over)reactions aren’t just triggered when she is attacked… they happen when she is the one on the offensive too. Case in point, last night’s SmackDown! match. It was Cherry, Jesse & Festus taking on Maryse, Deuce & Domino. Skip to the 7:50 mark to see Maryse going all Exorcist on us (again!):

Oh and if that didn’t have you laughing your head off, skip to the end for a replay at normal speed as well as in slow motion!!!

Now onto my thoughts: Though the Divas only got a little ring time, both Maryse and Cherry seemed really competent in the ring. They have had a handful of televised matches between them and already, are miles ahead of the irksome Ashley. On the whole, I was really underwhelmed with SmackDown! to be honest, sure these two put on a decent effort but three minutes of Diva action on the whole show is not good! I cannot believe that Michelle and Natalya got shafted off the show completely, what are the writers smoking?! They are the ones that have built up Michelle as SmackDown!’s top Diva, they are the ones who have booked Natalya so dominantly… yet they are left off the show altogether?

Awkward Moment With Michelle McCool

2

Joey Styles has been doing a pretty good job over at WWE.com, huh? I mean lots of new content, video interviews etc. etc. I should probably get this copywritten before I put it out there – but I just had an idea for a new segment for WWE.com, “Awkward Moments With…” in fact, Joey’s latest interview could even serve up as the first episode!

Check out this pretty funny (for all the wrong reasons) “interview” with Michelle McCool. A new odd couple, perhaps?

Weekend Crazies: Gail Back to WWE?

7

Weekends + slow news = crazies out in full force. The latest (I’m assuming) fan-concocted story is that Gail Kim could be on her way back to WWE. I don’t like to pay attention to such frivolous fancies and it’s usually easy to tell which stories have been written by fans and which are legit, but if anything let’s admire the penmanship of this writer:

There is some speculation that Gail Kim is likely to be brought back to WWE after her current TNA deal expires.

WWE has spent the greater part of the last year training several Asian females to take the role as the featured Asian diva however most of these attempts have not led to any promising future.

With Gail’s work in TNA being strong and TNA’s women’s division clearly the biggest ratings draw for the promotion currently, WWE is expected to be offering contracts to several of the TNA Knockouts when their agreements with TNA end. According to sources the deal to bring Gail Kim back to WWE is basically a done deal. There has been some internal heat for Gail being released in the first place during large scale talent cuts several years back when Gail was sidelined with a string of injuries and had been internally labeled with the “injury prone” stamp.

While Gail has been sidelined with some minor injuries during her time in TNA it looks like WWE is willing to take that risk to get the best available talent back on their rosters.

If the above news turns out to be legit, I will be the first one to apologise. Until then, you can make up your own mind.

Kelly & Layla Move to RAW… By Proxy

3

The least watched Divas on television may just become the most watched… ECW’s Kelly Kelly and Layla may soon be moving to WWE’s flagship show, Monday Night RAW by proxy. The news on the Internet this weekend is that ECW is set to jump ship from SmackDown! to RAW, combining it’s tapings and house shows with the A-brand.

The move will mean that ECW is taped before RAW goes live every Monday night, with the show still airing at Tuesdays at 10 on Sci Fi. The move is being made to rejuvenate the fledgling show, which has seen it’s ratings shed by half since it first launched in June 2006. As well as taping before the RAW audience, ECW Superstars will likely appear on RAW and vice versa to incite interest in the ECW brand. One must assume that Divas Kelly, Layla and forgotten Diva, Lena Yada will come part and parcel with the move.

From a business standpoint, this is a wise move but from a Diva standpoint, this is going to be sure to infuriate many a Diva fan. I, for one, think that the talent exchange between SmackDown! and ECW is a good thing because it allows Divas like Kelly and Layla to grow and develop, wrestling Divas like Michelle McCool, Victoria and Natalya. ECW and SmackDown!, Diva-wise, should be the shows for those growing talents before graduating to RAW like Natalya and Michelle eventually will.

Having Kelly and Layla thrown straight onto RAW will as I said, infuriate us fans but also water down the RAW product. We already have two duds on RAW (Ashley and Maria), having two more will only take away from the likes of Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Melina – and now Katie Lea. RAW has really stepped up it’s game in the past few weeks, I don’t want to see that ruined. Hopefully, when the move occurs (and it seems a done deal), there will be no interaction between the Divas… especially not on RAW. Have Ashley and Maria appear on ECW, fine, but don’t let that spill over onto RAW. I beg you!

Maria is a Miley Fan

5

In the most recent Diva Dish, Maria spoke her mind on the issue plaguing the minds of everyone everywhere: the War in Iraq? The Presidential election? No, silly – Miley Cyrus! Maria comes to Miley’s defense following the recent “Vanity Fair” picture scandal:

At a recent Raw event, Maria tracked down Diva Dish because she felt very passionate about expressing her thoughts over a recent photo scandal involving a popular teen queen.

“Miley Cyrus … there are so many worse things you can do than take an innocent picture. I literally ran to the newsstand to find out what everybody’s talking about in Vanity Fair,” Maria said.

“I saw one photo on TV played over and over and over again. I was like, ‘There has to be something more in this magazine.’ I opened it up and I saw two things. I saw a little girl with her father … how can anybody make that suggestion?! I do not know. I wish I had that great of a relationship with my father when I was that age! So stop giving the girl a hard time about that,” she continued.

YouTube Classics: Gail Kim vs. Sirelda

Welcome to the YouTube Classics! This week, our theme is “Knockouts”, matches taking place in TNA. Today, we have Gail Kim vs. Sirelda from TNA’s Hard Justice PPV:

TNA iMPACT! – May 22, 2008

Decent show! I really enjoyed it. To start off the show there was a promo addressing the fans that Karen was indeed making her long awaited return on iMPACT! to address Kurt Angle’s speech. A few segments later, The Beautiful People had a promotional video package where both Knockouts discussed how they’re dominant in more ways than just one. Unlike WWE, TNA is pushing for promotions during shows. I really enjoy seeing Knockout promos backstage. Until recently, the WWE Divas have never gotten much air time. I’m glad WWE is starting to change their ways.. perhaps they’ve seen what TNA is putting forth with their Women’s Division? It’s about time, if you ask me.

During the show, Karen Angle had arrived at the arena and Jeremy Borash tried to get a few words. Karen didn’t seem to budge and left Borash’s questions unanswered. After the returning Knockout had left the camera’s view, Raisha Saeed and the TNA Knockout’s Champion, Awesome Kong, emerged into view and handed Borash a letter, stating that Kong would start challenging female fans within the crowd to wrestle her. Immediatley after I saw this happen, I pretty much knew the direction this storyline was heading. It’s obvious that TNA is going to be using female wrestlers from the likes of SHIMMER as they have done in the past; for example, Daizee Haze.

The Knockout’s match for tonight was O.D.B against Angelina Love with Velvet Sky at ringside. The match was fair.. although I preferred the promotional packages more so than the match itself. Angelina took the win due to an illegal interference by Sky at ringside. Wow, say what? Everyone saw it coming. TNA is obviously trying to promote this stable – I want to know why to be honest… not a big fan. However, before the match had even taken place, O.D.B was interviewed about the new stable between Angelina and Velvet. The Knockout stated that she hated big breasted and beach blonde women. As the conversation continued, O.D.B stated that her breasts we’re real, and Crystal challenged that statement – ending with the backstage interviewer’s hands forecully attatched to O.D.B’s chest. I was wide-eyed right at that moment. It kind of also looked like Crystal enjoyed it.. she couldn’t stop smiling – I mean, O.D.B DOES have huge jugs!

Blonde, Big-Breasted Woman to Join the WWE???

3

With all the Ashley “is she or isn’t she (a hooker)” talk, I felt the timing of this news quite appropriate – according to the ever-reliable Paul Heyman over at the The Sun, there’s a slight chance of porn star Jenna Jameson making the move from being naked on your computer screen to.. being half-naked on your TV screen – okay, so it’s not a HUGE leap, but you know the WWE loves their trashy self-promotion! Heyman wrote the following on his Sun blog:

“Tito is finishing up his UFC contract this weekend. What does he do next? Wear out his name in MMA, or capitalize on his love for pro wrestling and exploit his larger than life personality by joining WWE or TNA? And remember, where Tito goes, so goes Jenna Jameson, the best self-promoter in show business today.

Melina Returns To Roots

4

Before she became the A-List Diva, Melina kickstarted her WWE career all the way back in Ohio Valley Wrestling. Last night at OVW’s television tapings, in a dark match, Melina and MNM returned to their old stomping grounds once more. Except this time, it wasn’t for a tag team match… it was against each other! Melina made a surprise appearance coming to John Morrison’s rescue in his match with his former tag team partner, Joey Mercury:

First off, after TV and intermission was over, out came Chris Cage. Cage is without question the #1 heel in OVW right now, and he proved why again as he came out griping, whining etc about his veteran status. That brought out Elijah Burke, who proceeded to rip Cage to shreds in the ring. Humiliated, Cage left the ring and out came Joey Matthews and Von Lilus.

Joey got in Elijah’s face, but Elijah tore in to Joey, almost causing an altercation. However, Elijah then introduced JOHN MORRISON, who came out, and proceeded to tear the house down with Joey. This match probably went a good 20 minutes, and is the best match I’ve seen Morrison have since… I can’t remember. Anyways, Morrison kicked the ref, knocking him out, which brought out another ref, who Joey gave a stiff looking forearm to after Morrison kicked out, which brought out Von Lilus to interfere with a chair.

THEN it gets interesting. As Lilus is getting ready to hit Morrison, out comes MELINA!!! She ballshots Lilus and Morrison hits his finish for the win. All the babyfaces come out and celebrate, as Morrison/Melina praise OVW.

Melina may be a two-time former Women’s Champion, but it’s nice to know she remembers where she started. How cool would it be to see Melina & Morrison on TV together again? They certainly were a dream team but had he not moved to ECW, she couldn’t have become the singles competitor and Women’s Champion she has become today.

Escort Ashley Told To Keep Schtum

13

If you thought Ashley‘s job was on the line, think again. If you thought Ashley would face any type of punishment, think again. The company that also employs a neo-Nazi racist fucktard and a dude who left a bunch of drugs in his former home, will be taking no action against Ashley in light of the escort situation. No duh.

Instead, WWE has told Escort Ashley to keep quiet on the situation in hopes of the story being dusted under the carpet. Hmm, not so easy when the FBI is conducting an investigation as we speak. Even though WWE is taking no action against the Diva, she’s been absent from RAW for the last two weeks missing out on the start of a big Diva boom period. Hell, even Jillian managed to get on last week. Dum dum dum…

YouTube Classics: Traci Brooks vs. Payton Banks

Welcome to the YouTube Classics! This week, our theme is “Knockouts”, matches taking place in TNA. Today, we have Traci Brooks vs. Payton Banks from a recent TNA’s Against All Odds. I’d definitely check out this match, as it features two women most of us haven’t seen too much of:

Kristal & Bobby Lashley Expecting Child

2

What happens when wrestlers breed? Well in a few months you can find out! Former WWE Diva, Kristal is expecting her first child with former WWE Superstar, Bobby Lashley. Rumour has it that Kristal’s release was part and parcel for Lashley asking for his release earlier this year, such chivalry. Most wrestling relationships are usually doomed, but these two seem to be going whole hog with a baby on board!

It’s probably a good thing Kristal saddled up because I’m sure the job opportunities after being released were like the sound of crickets chirping… I can’t see TNA (or anyone else for that matter) wanting to bring her in. Anyway, congrats to Kristal and the Bobster.

WWE Divas Heading for Boom Period?

1

Forgive me if I sounded like I’d just gotten high on sugar in this week’s RAW Redux, the truth is… I was high. High on Divas! I ain’t gonna lie – I marked out during RAW. Twice. I know that makes me sad and means I don’t have a life but if last night’s RAW was anything to go by, this summer for the WWE Divas is going to be just sizzling! And it couldn’t have happened at a better time. Gossip Girl wrapped it’s first season last night and I think I’ve just found my new guilty pleasures – RAW and SmackDown! Namely, the Divas. Is the WWE women’s division heading for another boom period? It looks that way and I certainly hope so!

Over the last few years, WWE has really lost sight of the women’s division and then we were dealt further blows – the loss of Trish Stratus and Lita. WWE tried to compensate with “hot” girls in bikinis, in pillowfights, rather than emphasising that these Divas are athletes, are wrestlers. Since WrestleMania 24, SmackDown! has captured some of that competetive edge with it’s developing women’s division – the feud between Natalya and Michelle McCool continues to grow and is making SmackDown! must watch television for many of us. Finally shrugging off the dreaded BunnyMania and Playboy angle, RAW too, it seems is jumping on the bandwagon! The feud between between Beth Phoenix, Melina and Mickie James has had me hooked to RAW over the past couple of weeks. Will Melina turn face? How many more ways can Beth inflict such pain? Melina and Beth have really rejuvenated my love for RAW, I had gotten real tired, real quick of seeing Mickie as the only credible face Diva on RAW. I had gotten really tired of seeing Ashley and Maria wrestle. The Melina-Beth feud interests me because they both started out as heels, I admit I’m partial to Melina – I think that’s she’s one of the best personalities the women’s division has introduced in the past few years. She really understands the whole psyche of wrestling: having the look, the persona/character, the in-ring skills; she is a well rounded package. Her counterparts like Beth and Mickie lack in persona/character, while the likes of Ashley and Maria lack in wrestling skills. Anyway, this feud is fresh, interesting – it’s not just about “Oh, she’s jealous”, “Oh, she dissed me” and throwing them into the ring with no storyline to it. They are creating a storyline and not just throwing the match together one week before a pay per view as is the case regularly.

Meanwhile, this past week on RAW, it seems WWE officially introduced Katie Lea to the women’s division as an adversary to Mickie James. I look at Katie and I see a girl with so much potential, who has the opportunity to make a big impact on the women’s division and I’m glad that WWE is seeing that too. I can’t wait to see her wrestle, I can’t wait to see her involved with the Divas and from the looks of it, I can’t wait to see Katie vs Mickie James. RAW went off the air in a very good state of affairs Divas wise, this past week.

We have more Divas feuds than ever (whether they be in development or ongoing) even the “lesser feuds” such as the never-ending Kelly KellyLayla feud is gaining traction, with both Divas stepping up their game in the ring last night on ECW. And SmackDown!, as well as their key feud between Michelle and Natalya, is utilising Cherry and Maryse too.

It seems across the board, the Divas are headed in the right direction and it could just be a matter of time before we see another boom period for the women’s division. A women’s division that thrives on wrestling, competition and above all else – non-generic storylines.

Kelly & Layla: Don’t Forget About Us!

3

WWE’s least watched Divas, Kelly Kelly and Layla continued their never-ending feud last night on ECW. These two girls have been feuding for what? A year now? Jesus. Anyway, both Divas showed a marked improvement in the ring, particularly Kelly Kelly who seems to be least “ring-shy” we’ve ever seen her in her now two year WWE career. This girl is coming along as an in-ring performer, much to my – and I’m sure many of your – surprise. Check out last night’s mixed tag match between Colin Delaney & Kelly taking on Mike Knox and Layla. The official title was mixed tag, but Kelly and Layla did all the work:

Again, both Divas showed a significant improvement and as a result, I wouldn’t mind seeing a singles match next week – it has got to be miles better than anything they’ve done in the past. I mean, it certainly can’t be worse! WWE is really high on Kelly and will no doubt push her in the years to come as the next Trish Stratus and Candice Michelle, but I think she’s right where she needs to be – let her improve in the ring on WWE’s least watched show and when she’s decent enough, move her to SmackDown! and when she’s truly ready, move her to RAW.

SmackDown! Spoilers for May 23rd

We’ve got SmackDown! spoilers for ya – highlight to read:

Deuce, Domino & Maryse defeated Jesse, Festus & Cherry.

Katie Lea Has Telekinesis

2

Katie Lea has received her 2nd WWE.com photoshoot (entitled Wanting You” for whatever pointless reason), and I have to say that I’m kind of creeped out. She doesn’t quite pose as much she she does stand there and give us crazy eyes. I’ll give her a break since she’s only recently become a Diva and probably isn’t used to all the photoshoots and the like. But if the Spider-Man poster on the wall behind me starts levitating, I’m out of here. (Click here for the full photoshoot.)

OT – 200th post right here! Woo! Please keep the confetti and glitter at a minimum.

Ashley: Bandana Babe!

11

Yay! Another Ashley Massaro photoshoot. Most of you are probably just as thrilled as I am, hah! But I’m psyched for yet another Dirty Diva photoshoot. I suppose since they aren’t using her as much on television, they’re putting out more photoshoots of her – which I’m super excited about. It seems like week after week another set is released. Anyways, let’s get to the photoshoot, shall we!?

I like it. I guess since I’m a super Ashley fan, I can be almost biased on the fact of liking photoshoots from her more so than the other Divas, but I don’t know.. something about this one just does it for me. I like the color coordination of black and pink, then again.. practically every Ashley photoshoot has these colors. Hey, atleast there’s a plus in this photoshoot: No tacky orange thong. Thank god, right? I was starting to have second thoughs about her… please, don’t comment on that statement! Haha!

In conclusion, I like this photoshoot. It gives a good glimpse of her new weave and her new figure? Apparently Ashley’s trying to pack on the pounds due to some select fan-made signs at wrestling shows stating, “Please Feed Ashley!” I don’t really see a difference to be honest. It’s okay, Ashley! Order a couple burgers and chow down, baby! Lastly, I think they need to do more with her photoshoots. I’m kind’ve getting sick of the whole bra, fishnet, hat, and flashy punk hand gesture being tossed out. It’s time have a change of pace – not for just Ashley, but most Divas. Click here to view the photos!

RAW Redux – May 19, 2008

6

This week on RAW: We were treated to not one, but two feuds brewing before our very eyes! Melina continued to chase Beth Phoenix, while Katie Lea got her official introduction into the women’s division challenging Mickie James.

Thoughts & Reactions
Thank you WWE!!! Thank you the Gods above!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! What a fantastic night for the Divas… again! I’m beginning to think WWE actually likes women’s wrestling as much as we do! Last night’s RAW saw the brewing of not one, but two feuds and damn… these are two feuds I cannot wait to see culminate! I was not expecting what WWE dished out last night; I was expecting Melina to be dropped and Beth to go after Mickie and it certainly looked that way for a little while: when Melina came out to the announce table, my heart and my gut told me that we were going to get Beth Phoenix vs Mickie James. But damn, I have never in my entire life been more pleased to see Maria!!! Sure this match was short but you have to think about it in terms of development of storylines, this match developed the storyline between Beth Phoenix and Melina and it was fantastic stuff. WWE is telling a story, letting a feud unfold and that’s something they haven’t really done for the past couple of years. They just throw the Divas out in there in matches, no real bad blood or feud and say “Here’s your weekly three minute Diva match… eat it up, bitches” to us fans. But over the past few weeks, they have really stepped up their game and treated the Divas with the respect they deserve – getting a real storyline.

I absolutely loved the gutsy play by Melina, attacking Beth and then Beth laying her out. The pop Melina got as she ran through the ring and up the ramp left no doubt in my mind that the fans can and will accept Melina as a face! This was really well done and I think it will lead to a physical, brutal match-up (maybe a strap match?) at One Night Stand – a major step-up from a fucking pudding match last year. This segment was really well done and set up this feud nicely. I was expecting them to drop Melina and just revert back to Beth-Mickie but they really followed through and rather than just elevate two Divas to the top of the division (Beth and Mickie), they are actually elevating three, Melina included. Fantastic!

Given her big win at Judgment Day, I expected maybe a second match-up (Mickie vs Jillian?) or some appearance by Mickie because it would be ridiculous for her to not appear after her win the night before. But what we got was even better! I’ve been waiting anxiously to see Katie Lea become part of the women’s division and I think she just has! Say it with me – YAY!!!! This segment, again, was really well done and set up Katie as a heel nicely. The bitchy retorts… I lol’d! It’s hard to believe but WWE is actually using logic with the women’s division *enter chorus of gasps here* With Melina turning to the light (becoming a face), they’ve introduced Katie into the division to counteract that heel void left by her. Again, I cannot wait to see this feud and this match develop, I think this could be the feud of the summer. I hope they let it simmer and be a slow burner, because this is a match I want to see at SummerSlam.

RAW was quite the event this week for our Divas, I cannot wait to see where these two story arcs go next! I’m about 75% certain Beth and Melina will face off at One Night Stand, and hopefully we’ll have some continunation of the Katie-Mickie feud too. Again, this should be a slow burner, hopefully something like Katie taunting Mickie or coming out and scouting her during a match. Fabulous!

Systematic Breakdown of Judgment Day

8

It’s that time once again, welcome to our monthly “systematic breakdown” of the night before. Last night, WWE held it’s annual Judgment Day pay per view, accentuated by a Women’s Championship bout featuring Mickie James, Beth Phoenix and Melina. Let’s review:

Thoughts & Reactions
I got exactly what I expected last night, a solid, hardworking match from all Divas involved. This match was very strong, all the girls got to showcase their talents and each had their own standout moment during the match. My only woe is I wish it was longer!!! For a Women’s Championship match involving such talented Divas, this match should have gone longer, it was really that good. Mickie James picked up the victory, to the shock of no-one, I expected the finish but the match itself outweighed the outcome.

Last night belonged to Beth Phoenix and Melina by a mile, Mickie James may be the champ, but Beth and Melina really stood out and enhanced this storyline. The opening segment where Beth told Melina to get the hell out of her ring, only for Melina to kick her through the ropes was superb and showed Melina’s fiery passion. Many considered Melina the “odd one out” in this match, but WWE did a great job of showing that Melina would and could stand up to Beth Phoenix and was not scared and would not back down from the fight. Meanwhile, Beth Phoenix really came over as an effective uber-heel here, it’s interesting how much charisma and personality she’s showing since losing the Women’s Championship! Where was this when she had the damn belt?! Beth really made you want to hate her, she came across as bitchy, strong and dominant for the first time in a long time. The intimidation tactic to Melina was fab and then of course, we had an amazing spot where she picked up both Mickie and Melina… wow. Fantastic stuff.

We all knew that Melina would be the one doing the job to Mickie, no surprise there. The question now is will WWE continue to use Melina in this feud (please, yes!) or will they just go back to Beth-Mickie? I really love the injection of the fiery A-List Diva to this slowly dying feud. Melina getting involved couldn’t have happened at a better time and added a new, must watch dynamic to the rivalry. Please, WWE don’t drop Melina and go back to a singles match. Though Melina did the job last night, I don’t think that’s hurt her at all – because her beef is with Beth Phoenix. I fully expect a Melina vs Beth match tonight on RAW, let’s see what happens!

All in all, this was a great match-up, I wasn’t expecting anything less. In what must be a first, for the past three months WWE has actually delivered good Diva matches on pay per view. Granted, no-one expected BunnyMania or the 12-Diva tag to be good but this one, I expected to be good and I wasn’t disappointed.

Diva of the Week: May 12 – May 18, 2008

2

Welcome to Diva of the Week, we aim to recognise and honour the gold standard among the Divas, Knockouts and women of wrestling based on the week’s shows, news and more. This week was a hard one to pick but ultimately, I decided to award this week’s “Diva of the Week” to Gail Kim. As a result, Gail becomes our first Knockout to win the award! There were many possible options this week but I felt that Gail was the strongest candidate as she gave two great matches over the week, including a victory at TNA’s Sacrifice pay per view.

Gail Kim had a hard working week this week, she competed in a Knockout Makeover Battle Royal, before facing off one-on-one with Roxxi Laveaux in a ladder match which saw Roxxi get her head shaved as a result. This match was incredible, the action and the risks taken by both competitors was fantastic. As a result of winning, Gail faced off against TNA Knockout Champion, Awesome Kong one more time in what has been an epic feud for TNA. This is the feud that put the TNA Knockouts on the map; Gail and Kong put on another amazing match on iMPACT! Gail has worked this week, harder than any other Diva or Knockout.

Like I said, this week’s pick was hard and there were many candidates: Roxxi Laveaux for her head-shaving, but ultimately we had a sentimental pick for “Diva of the Week” last week and it didn’t seem fair to award Roxxi for that solely. Elsewhere, Beth Phoenix really had a breakout moment as an uber-heel on this week’s RAW, gaining her an honourable mention. An honourable mention also goes to TNA’s Beautiful People, the tag team of Angelina Love and Velvet Sky who had an impressive week on pay per view and on iMPACT! But ultimately, Gail shined this week and for that we award her this week’s “Diva of the Week.”

SmackDown!: War of Two Worlds

A day late, but whatever. This week on SmackDown! we were treated to a rare sight on WWE television – two Divas matches. While neither were the equivalent of culinary delights, they were pretty good given who was involved! First up was the All-American Diva, Michelle McCool who has been on quite a roll in WWEverse over the past six months as she faced off against Layla.

Given the experience levels of these two Divas, this match was slightly sloppy but still very good. It was interesting to see Michelle work and guide her opponent rather than being the one guided. With two quasi-experienced Divas in the ring, this was a lot better than I expected wrestling wise. However, this match was pretty boring, I remember these two hooking up a few months back and that was a fun match. These two Divas are easily the best products of the Diva Search to date, with no Victoria or Natalya in action this week – there wasn’t that strong competetive edge to this match or the later match, but was a passable 4 minutes.

Style Showdown: Judgment Day Divas

Welcome to Style Showdown, a new feature to cure weekends of slow news! In Style Showdown, we take two Diva rivals from the past or present and put them in a battle of a different kind – in a battle of “Who looks better!”

Previously on Style Showdown: We pit SmackDown!’s duelling Divas, Michelle McCool and Natalya against each other in the first of our showdowns. 117 votes were cast and the winner was… Natalya! The third generation Diva scored 62 votes to Michelle’s 57.

This week: In lieu of tomorrow night’s triple threat match for the Women’s Championship, we have a three-way showdown featuring all three Divas involved! We’ve taken the most recent photoshoots from Beth Phoenix, Melina and Mickie James. These Divas may be duking it out for the title at Judgment Day, but which Diva will win our showdown?! You decide! We’ll have the result of your vote next week along with another showdown!

Pillow Fights, Bikinis & Lingerie “Are for Divas”

9

TNA continues to ride on WWE’s coattails, this time using the Knockouts. One of the signature pieces of TNA, if not the most thriving portion of the company, why stoop so low and lower yourselves to taking pot shots at the WWE Divas? That’s exactly what TNA does in it’s latest “Cross the Line” promo featuring the Knockouts:

During the pre-show portion of the Sacrfice pay-per-view this past Sunday, TNA ran a commercial promoting the girls of TNA. The commercial features voiceovers from a number of the Knockouts, and during the ad, one of them takes a veiled shot at “Divas,” presumably of the WWE variety. Here is a transcript of the Knockouts commercial: “We don’t settle grudges with pillow fights, bikini’s, and lingerie. Screw that. We’re not Barbies playing wrestling dress up – that’s for Divas. We’re real athletes, we take real risks. We embrace physicality – that’s where they draw the line. The line we cross every time we enter the six sided ring. Like what you see? Good.”

TNA has a great product with it’s Knockout division and in my eyes, the more they distance themselves from WWE, the better. I don’t like to compare Knockout division to WWE’s women’s division, because they are two very different things. The fact that TNA themselves feel the need to compare themselves to the Divas, shows their own pettiness.
