NXT Redux (October 5th, 2010): Jamie Says Goodbye While Aksana Shines

Five weeks of build, anticipation, heart break, and horror culminated last night in the very first elimination for season three of NXT. One poor girl would have her dreams shattered as she is sent packing back to Tampa. Also this week, the Aksana/Goludst angle heats up as an immigration officer rears his ugly head (literally… he has an ugly head) and threatens our favorite Lithuanian. The Rookie Divas try their best to master the art of faux bull riding and of course, a Diva talent show takes place.

Dun dun duuuuuuuuuuun!

This surely gets redundant but once again NXT (now exclusively on WWE.com) kicks off in grandiose fashion with Matt Striker announcing the rookie Divas. Naomi, Aksana, AJ, Jamie, Maxine, and Kaitlyn make their way onto the stage where the Pros (including Alicia Fox, Vickie Guerrero, Kelly Kelly, Brie Bella, and Nikki Bella) are already sitting. Striker teases the girls that this is the biggest night of their young careers. He explains how things are going to work tonight and then brings us into our first rookie challenge of the evening.

It’s a bull riding competition complete with mechanical bull.

Raw Redux (October 4, 2010): Blink and You Missed It… Twice

After a decent showing and a controversial finish at Hell in a Cell, Diva fans were looking for some storyline progression in this Natalya/Lay-Cool rivalry. Well that simply wasn’t the case. Instead we were treated to a couple of lightning fast matches and a heaped helping of confusion on the side. First up, Natalya faces off against Alicia Fox in a match that flew past so fast, it broke the sound barrier:

We start off with both Divas already in the ring and neither one get so much as an introduction. The referee signals for the bell and Alicia goes on the attack with a flurry strikes. Natalya reverses an Irish whip to the turnbuckle, but gets a kick to the face for her trouble.

WWE Hell in a Cell in Review: Lay-Cool Still Golden… Thanks to a Shoe

Last night, one half of the Unified Divas Champions, Michelle McCool defended her newly won title for the first time against the First Lady of The Hart Dynasty, Natalya, at Hell in a Cell. Fans have been waiting with bated breath for someone to end the reign of ‘The Flawless Ones’. Could Natalya be the Diva that takes them down a peg? Check out the match below:

Out first is the champion, Michelle (accompanied by Layla) and I must say, she is looking phenomenal in her new gold and black gear. Natalya is out next, also sporting some new gear. I’m a bigger fan of Natalya’s white gear, but this silver one is impressive as well. Natalya slaps hands with the fans, before climbing in the ring and posing for the fans. The two dominant Divas stare each other down and referee signals for the bell, starting the match.

Michelle goes to lock up, but Natalya evades and locks in a waistlock, followed by a takedown, before quickly slapping on a front chancery. Michelle manages to reverse the hold into a hammerlock, but is foiled yet again, as Natalya reverses it into a another waistlock. Sensing that Natalya has the upperhand, McCool scrambles towards the ropes, forcing a break. Michelle rolls out of the ring, asking for a time out, but Natalya isn’t having any of that. Natalya slides out of ring and chases Michelle around the ring. Ever the BFF, Layla throws herself in front of the charging Diva, only to be thrown aside, but giving Michelle the opportunity to lay Natalya out with a vicious clothesline.

Results & Pictures from RCW (October 2nd, 2010): Alissa Flash vs Mercedes Martinez Rematch

The world’s #3 and #4 ranked female wrestlers (courtesy of the PWI Female 50) faced off once again this past Saturday night at River City Wrestling in San Antonio, TX. RCW Heavyweight Champion, Alissa Flash (Cheerleader Melissa, ranked #4 on PWI Female 50 2010) and Mercedes Martinez (#3) headlined the event in a rematch to their bout last month. Diva Dirt reader, Brandon, sent in the following:

Coming off a big match last month, current RCW Champion Alissa Flash put the gold on the line once again against Mercedes Martinez, this time with no interference from Joey Spector (Mercedes’ boyfriend), the Texas Hitmen, and the Karate Kids.

The match, like last month, did not disappoint. The first third of the match had great exchange of holds from both Martinez and Flash, the striking game picked up in the second third of the match with Martinez’s strong-style chop to Flash exchange of strikes. One of my favorite moments was when Flash was attempting the Curb Stomp, Mercedes countered into a Curb Stomp of her own! The matched ended when both girls try to hit their finishers, up until Alissa Flash hits the Air Raid Crash on Mercedes for the win, thus retaining the RCW Championship. After the match, Flash wanted to extends the hand to Martinez, when Joey Spector shows up and tries to talk Merceds into not doing it and just walk away. Did Mercedes buy that? HELL TO THE NAW! Mercedes and Alissa exchange strikes to Spector and kick his hairy behind to the curb. Spector then said to Martinez, “It’s over!” Like Mercedes really cared for him, because early in the show, Spector kicked the Hitmen to the curb when they lost their match. The night end with Flash and Martinez raising arms and were acknowledged as PWI’s #3 and #4!

EVE, SHIMMER Promoters Speak on the Value of All Female Promotions in Pro Wrestling

In light of a situation with one of the Pro-Wrestling: EVE talents (who is no longer part of the roster as a result) that emerged over the weekend, EVE promoter Dann Read issued a statement about all-female promotions and where they stand in pro wrestling. Today, SHIMMER founder, Dave Prazak also weighed in.

As background context to that ‘situation’, on Friday night, the official EVE Twitter page posted the following: “Has been called ‘bad for the wrestling business’ as apparently we’re sexist. Any opinions? Are we as an all female wrestling company sexist?”

Later, they followed up with this tweet: “A member of the EVE roster agrees with the allegations thrown at us. Sadly this is not ‘a work’ thus this person is no longer a part of EVE.” You can read two more tweets here and here.

And now, Dann & Dave’s comments below.

Dann Read, the Producer of Europe’s Pro-Wrestling:EVE, issued the below statement this past week.

Pro-Wrestling:EVE is committed to the progression of Professional Female Wrestling throughout Europe. The next few months will be telling as we separate those who believe in women’s wrestling from those who don’t and find out who’s passion for the female industry matches our own. Everyone must be on the same page and everyone must be committed to their own improvement.

Pro-Wrestling:EVE works alongside some of the very best in the women’s wrestling industry and supports the efforts of those doing the very same thing such as SHIMMER, Female Fight League, NCW – Femmes Fatales, ChickFight & many others around the world in addition to those who give coverage and support to the female wrestling business such as Diva-Dirt.com, CapruredBeauty.com, RedHotDivas.com, Wrestlegasm.com, WrestlingFusion.com, (there are so many I’m sorry if I haven’t mentioned you, send me messages on twitter and I’ll #FF to make up for it!).

We support them, they support us, we all support each other and we all have the same dreams and goals.

WWE Hell in a Cell 2010: Natalya Wins, But Michelle’s Still Champion

Lay-Cool have done it again! The dastardly duo have found yet another way to cling onto their championship, this time with the help of Layla‘s stilettos. With Natalya close to making Michelle McCool to the infamous Hart trademark, the Sharpshooter, McCool’s cohort threw her shoe (yes, her shoe!) at Natalya, resulting in a disqualification. As … Read more

PPV Predictions: WWE Hell in a Cell 2010

Tonight at Hell in a Cell, the Unified Divas Championship is on the line between Michelle McCool and Natalya, but who’ll come out on top? We weigh in…

Cryssi: This match has been thrown together, made at the last minute, and literally has three weeks of build if you count the NOC interaction between Natalya and Michelle. On paper this match seems great but in reality it has little to no substance. That said, Natalya and Michelle are two of the best Divas on the roster and magic could very well happen when they step inside the ring tonight. Natalya is the best face the WWE has to offer and Michelle and her devil heel ways make her the girl we all love to hate. This could be one of those rare matches that really get the crowd involved because who hasn’t been waiting for Natalya to finally get her moment?! There’s only five matches on this entire card so there’s no reason why these two gifted ladies shouldn’t get a proper amount of time. All I can ask for is for the ‘E to let them go and do their thing. It’s way to early for the ‘Cool to lose Lay-Cool’s championship but in order for this match to turn into a feud Natalya needs to win tonight. I see Layla getting involved and costing Michelle the match in DQ fashion which would give Natalya a victory but allow Lay-Cool to still reign supreme. And for the love God, no Hornswoggle tonight.

David: In general “Hell in a Cell” was not a pay-per-view I was looking forward to watching. I felt like this show had been thrown together too quickly and there wasn’t a match that would make me order the show… UNTIL it was announced that Natalya was challenging Michelle McCool for the Unified Divas Championship. Once that match was added to the show it became must-see TV for me. Why? Because Natalya rocks! I really want to see how she performs in a big-time championship match and although I think Michelle will retain the title Sunday night, Natalya is ready to be a breakout star. I would just like to see her feud with Lay-Cool gain some momentum before she captures the belt (Bragging Rights would be perfect). Whatever happens Sunday night, at least it will be live and not on tape delay. I was afraid we would read spoilers this week for “Hell in a Cell” (insert sarcasm) because lately the best Divas moments have been previously recorded. Not this time. Sunday night Nattie gets her chance to shine and I’ve got my pink and black all picked out.

Eric: Similar to the inaugural Hell in a Cell pay per view of 2009, this match is sure to deliver as a solid, technical bout. Unfortunately, it also looks to also deliver as a short term feud with little lasting impact on Diva storylines. While I would love to see Nattie lock in her somewhat awkward sharpshooter and take the win, I just don’t see it happening here. Until WWE pushes a heel that isn’t Lay-Cool, there is no justifiable reason in having them drop the belts. I fully expect the win to be dirty, with Layla or perhaps Vickie interfering, but that doesn’t change the fact that Michelle will pick up the win.

Erin: I, like everyone else at Diva Dirt, am so psyched that Natalya’s getting this opportunity, but the timing is really suspect. WWE is definitely still on their LayCool high, and Natalya being their first feud as unified champ(s) doesn’t bode well for her chances. Honestly, the most I’m hoping for Natalya is a feud that’s longer than a week, so let’s see if the rivalry progresses after Michelle‘s inevitable victory.

Northeast Wrestling Results for Friday & Saturday: Mia Yim vs Mickie James

Former WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie James was one of the headline stars this past weekend for Northeast Wrestling in Waterbury, CT and Liberty, NY. Fan Report, Pictures & Video from Friday’s Northeast Wrestling Show with Becky Bayless, Mia Yim & Mickie James

Diva Dirt reader, Eddie, sent in the following report & pictures from his experience meeting Becky Bayless, Mia Yim and Mickie James at Friday’s Northeast Wrestling show in Waterbury, CT. This was the show that Awesome Kong was advertised to be part of, however she was replaced by Mia Yim at the last minute.

Eddie writes:

A lot of people were bummed that Kong wasn’t there (myself included), but Mickie vs Mia was a really good match and it went over 10 minutes. Really refreshing since we don’t get to see that on TV anymore. Mia did great. She’s going to be a star, and now that I’ve seen her in person, I can say that TNA totally missed the boat by not signing her. Mickie was WAY over and even cuter in person than on TV, which I’ve found is not always the case with some of the other Divas/Knockouts.

I talked with Becky Bayless (Cookie) for a few minutes after the show — very funny and personable lady.

Mia was probably the friendliest person at the whole show (her and Bryan Danielson), which was a little weird, since she played the heel in her match. At the end of the night, she was talking to everyone, taking pictures and signing autographs for free. If Diva Dirt readers ever have a chance to meet her, don’t miss out. She’s great.

Overall, awesome night. This was the best independent show I’ve ever been to. I got to meet Bryan Danielson, Mickie James, Tommy Dreamer, Carlito, Mia Yim, Becky Bayless. And I can’t believe I got to see Bryan Danielson’s last independent match live! Everyone check out Northeast Wrestling!
