Winners & Losers: RAW 01/27/20

One night removed from the Royal Rumble and the WrestleMania sign is up and the path is lit. As the winner of the Royal Rumble match, Charlotte Flair was slated to pick her opponent for the biggest event of the year. Instead of her telling the fans, we will have to wait.

Flair explained that she is not quite ready to announce who she wants to challenge. She is still deciding.

It didn’t take long for Asuka to respond to this. The Kabuki Warriors made their way down to the ring as Asuka congratulated The Queen for her big victory. She explained that if she was in the Rumble match then she would have won. The Women’s Tag Team Champions would then attack Flair setting up for Asuka to take her on.

The match was very good and was given plenty of time. Both women would pull out everything in their arsenal to put the other away. Asuka had a moment where she almost had the submission between an Octopus hold that transferred into a Triangle but it couldn’t keep Flair down.

After much avoidance, Flair was able to get the Empress into the Figure Four. As she bridged into the Figure Eight in the corner, Sane hit the elbow from the top rope causing the disqualification. Flair would then be able to fight off both Sane and Asuka to end the segment.

The second match of the show was the advertised Lana vs. Liv Morgan. The match was solid. Personally, I would have liked it to go for a few more minutes, but it did its purpose. Both women looked good and Morgan was definitely highlighted. It was good to have it boiled down to just the women with Bobby Lashley and Rusev banned from ringside.

If this storyline continues it should be kept that way. As of now all we know is that Morgan and Lana were an item. There needs to be more put into the storyline aspect of it.

Other women of the show included a backstage interview/promo from Becky Lynch. With her win over Asuka, the RAW Women’s Champion has now dumped the “I am being protected” persona. She is now back to the “I am an ass kicker” persona. It is evident that she feels like she has gone through everyone at this point. So who is next? Cue Shayna?

Zelina Vega inserted herself into the United States Championship match. She would break up the pin as Humberto Carrillo was about to defeat Andrade. This would cause the disqualification and Andrade retained. Afterwards he was attacked outside the ring on the exposed pavement by Carrillo. It was reported later that night that Andrade is now suspended after violating WWE’s wellness policy.

Let’s get to the Winners and Losers of the week.

WINNER: Asuka

Asuka may not have won her match, but she didn’t lose either. To me it was a big win that she didn’t lose. Charlotte Flair getting to stand tall after the disqualification was a little too much, but it is expected.

We need to get the tag team division built up. Move a few women over from NXT and let’s get The Kabuki Warriors shining on that level again.

WINNER: Becky Lynch

Lynch delivers another excellent promo. It is riddled in the fact that she has done all there is that she needs to do at the very moment. Her next goal is to be remembered as the best ever. Many feel that her reign has become boring and maybe it has had stale moments. However, excited for a fresh competitor for her and it most likely be Shayna Baszler.

WINNER: Liv Morgan

It was good to finally get to see Liv in a singles match. Loved her entrance and her attire. I feel like I fall in the middle with her continuing to feud with Lana, but at this moment there isn’t much else to do. She just needs to continue to do her thing and shine.

LOSERS:

Another RAW where it is hard to point out an exact loser. Every woman did there thing this week and what was needed. Who would you list on your loser list?

The only thing that continues to be a trend is that Charlotte won’t put others over. That idea lasted for about a month or so when she was losing to The Kabuki Warriors and even then Becky would eat the pin/submit more. It will continue to be this way for years to come.

What were your thoughts on this week’s RAW? What were your likes and dislikes. Let’s converse in the comment section below.

Charlotte Flair to decide her WrestleMania opponent on RAW

Charlotte Flair has won the Royal Rumble, so now it is time to decide who she will face at WrestleMania. WrestleMania in Tampa, Fla. may still be a couple months away but the road starts now. Based off of the current champions we could see a match that we have seen numerous times before.

Currently, after their successful victories over the weekend, Becky Lynch is still the RAW Women’s Champion and Bayley is still the SmackDown Women’s Champion. Flair has battled with and alongside of Lynch for the past several years. They, along with Ronda Rousey, were the first women to main event WrestleMania last year.

Flair was interviewed in a WWE Exclusive after her win. She had the following to say about her potential opponents:

“Since Bayley can only beat me when I’m unconscious, everyone remembers Money in the Bank. If I was Becky, I’d be scared.”

Flair would further state that we will find out who she will be facing on this week’s RAW. WWE has just confirmed this on Twitter.

There is a third option that hasn’t been considered before and that is the NXT Championship. If WWE wanted to provide something fresh, she could challenge Rhea Ripley. NXT has been seen as a third brand ever since their debut on the USA Network at the end of September.

After Lynch took care of her final debt in that of Asuka, she was also asked about Flair’s win in the Rumble. She had the following to say:

“Does it make me nervous? I’ve beaten that woman all across the world for nearly two years straight. If she wants to challenge me, I’ll happily beat her again. If the world wants to see Charlotte Flair versus Becky Lynch round 387, they still know the outcome. Still The Man. Still the champ. Tonight proved that. Asuka was my biggest challenge and I proved that I am the greatest of all time.”

We shall find out who Flair picks soon enough. What match would you like to see happen at WrestleMania? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Winners & Losers: RAW 01/13/20

A contract signing, a drink to the face, and Sarah Logan getting an entrance pretty much sums up this week’s RAW. RAW continues the trend of one women’s match a week which is still pretty sad when they have a three-hour show. At least the bell rang for the match this time

Sarah Logan took on Charlotte Flair and although her entrance music is rather basic, her entrance itself was nice to see. The match was short and nothing too special. It was pretty similar to last week’s “brawl.” Logan would lose as she tapped out to the Figure Eight.

It was announced that Logan will be entering into the Royal Rumble match. With the slim roster for the red brand it is pretty much a given that the whole roster will be in the match. Same goes for SmackDown. NXT is the brand that has a plethora of talent to choose from.

During the Rusev and Bobby Lashley match, Lana was obviously at ringside cheering on her new husband. Liv Morgan would come out and head straight for Lana. Lana wouldn’t take kindly to Morgan confronting her and would grab a drink from a fan and toss it in her face.

This led to a distraction for Rusev and Lashley picked up the win. The newlyweds would celebrate but would let Charly Caruso know backstage that Liv Morgan is a bigger issue than Rusev. Lana would issue a mixed tag match for next week which Morgan and Rusev would later accept.

Lastly, and definitely the best part of RAW, was the contract signing between Becky Lynch and Asuka. This is for their RAW Women’s Championship match at the Royal Rumble just one week from Sunday. The segment started out with the champion entering the ring first.

Lynch was asked if she had anything to say prior to Asuka coming out and she chose not to say anything. Asuka would come out accompanied by Kairi Sane. Lynch would chase Sane out of the ring and steal her umbrella!

Asuka would sign the contract first and Lynch second. Lynch seemed to be hesitant prior to putting the ink to the paper. Once signed, Lynch would say, “may the best woman win.” A grinning Asuka would then spew the green mist into the eyes of the champ.

At first that seemed to be the end of the segment. A rather cut and dry contract signing. Asuka used her green mist, the end. But no! The acting skills of Lynch would knock it out of the park. She sold the green mist to her eyes better than anyone has or probably will ever. As the staff was trying to wipe and wash out her eyes, The Man would yell for a microphone.

What she had to say next was fantastic storytelling that hypes up this title match perfectly. Shes starts, “When they give you money, when they give you praise, the awards, the acclaim..it’s all poison. It’s all poison for someone who fights for a living and my veins are full of it.”

She then says that Asuka is “hungry and angry” and she herself has been “happy and content.” Lynch says that Asuka is the most dangerous woman she has ever faced. When someone puts their hands on The Man though a badness arises in her.

Let’s knock out those Winners & Losers shall we?

WINNER: Becky Lynch

For everything I just said. It is that simple. She turned what could have been a simple green mist spot into a great story. Becky proved tonight though why she is still at the top of the division and this industry.

WINNER: Asuka

Asuka did her part as well tonight. Her cockiness while sitting in her chair to sign the contract was on point. Ever since turning heel Asuka has been being used correctly. She is the perfect contrast to Becky as well.

LOSER: Charlotte Flair

Flair may think she is always a winner, but for the past few weeks her wins literally mean nothing. There is zero point to build up Flair and in fact it makes the matches that less entertaining. When it is the only match on RAW as well – it is a bit of a snooze fest.

The most entertained I was recently by Flair was when she was having good matches against The Kabuki Warriors but still losing. At least those matches were good and her losing didn’t tarnish her whatsoever. Can we go back to that?

LOSER: Sarah Logan

Whereas it is good to see her now two weeks in a row, it is kind of pointless. Unless this builds up to Logan actually picking up a win then the interest level is gone.

Winners & Losers: RAW 12/16/19

Just one night removed from the women main eventing their third (technically fourth if you count Extreme Rules) pay-per-view of the year and we have a clear picture of the RAW Women’s Championship landscape.

Becky Lynch would have a sit down interview backstage with Charly Caruso where she was asked how she is handling her TLC loss. Her response reflected on her not being herself over the past few months as she has been placed in the tag team division rather than defending her own title. The title she hasn’t defending since October in Hell in Cell. She states:

“At first, I thought the powers that be were trying to bury me. Then I realized that it’s something much worse. They’re trying to protect me.”

The powers that be may feel that she can’t beat Asuka and Lynch agreed that after last night they may be right. She would sit Asuka at the top of the division and state how all of her wins against her have proved that she is the best. She would then would look right into the camera and said that Asuka is the one person she hasn’t been able to beat. She needs to prove something to herself by beating her.

This is mostly likely the lead up to Lynch vs. Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble event next month. Frankly this makes the most sense since both women are prior winners of the Royal Rumble so they aren’t needed in that match.

As far as the one match that was given on RAW tonight it was Asuka facing a surprising face in that of Deonna Purrazzo of NXT. What makes this choice rather surprising is Purrazzo hasn’t even been featured on NXT television, but it was a nice treat to see her in action. The match wasn’t the longest as expected but at the same time it wasn’t a fast 30 second squash either. It was a nice outing for her. Asuka obviously walked away with the victory.

Other than the one women’s match and the Becky Lynch promo we witnessed a new vignette for Liv Morgan. The video saw her in a bathroom with a voice over that says she has been reflecting on the person she has been. She has stated that she always wanted to feel comfortable in her own skin instead of being told by others how to be. She would enter a bathtub and end the vignette by saying that she will have to destroy herself in order to for the real her to emerge.

We also had the Days of Our Lives continuation and next segment of the Lana/Bobby Lashley saga. Lana told Lashley to propose to her and he did. He would comment that she is the best women’s wrestler in the entire WWE history.

For the Winners & Losers there really wasn’t enough substance to produce any losers. Even Lana got engaged so that’s winning, right? What was presented for the women tonight wasn’t bad. Everything was enjoyable it just wasn’t enough.

Liv is a winner because as long as we don’t receive three months of vignettes (the Royal Rumble should be the latest her return should last) her return is highly anticipated. Deonna was a winner because she had a match against the top woman in the company. Asuka continued to look strong as she has been. There wasn’t any further friction between Zelina Vega and Andrade so there is no loss for a break up, for now. Becky presented a stellar promo.

The biggest loss is that for the past couple of months the fans continue to only get one women’s match on a three hour show. Perhaps if they didn’t have an hour long Gauntlet Match for the men that resulted in a no contest then maybe they would have time to put on more women’s matches/segments. We can only focus so much on the fact that a few women are out of action right now because they aren’t even using all the ones they current have.

What were your thoughts on this week’s RAW? Who do you think Liv is going to feud with when she returns? Did you enjoy seeing Deonna on RAW? Are you feeling Becky vs. Asuka? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
