Winners & Losers: SmackDown 09.18.20

Friday Night SmackDown has spent another week developing two main storylines. One being the horrendous act from SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley to her former best friend Sasha Banks two weeks ago. Before we get to that, the other major storyline involves the ever-evolving Alexa Bliss as she becomes more and more like The Fiend. Ever … Read more

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 05.08.20

With the Money in the Bank pay-per-view this Sunday, most of the women on this week’s show were preparing for the event – except two. Two women who perhaps have the best storyline going between all brands during this strange moment in wrestling. They are the former Fire & Desire tag team, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.

At this time Rose and Deville do not have a match on the MITB card. This doesn’t mean they still won’t, but one thing is for sure this feud is far from over. Tonight was the first the two have gone one-on-one since Rose made the first slap at WrestleMania.

The match was good for a first fight. The storytelling is tremendous and both women are selling it so much that most of us are buying in bulk. Between Deville pulling out Rose’s eyelashes telling her she is going to make her ugly to Rose slamming Deville into the announce table saying, “who is the bitch now bitch?” everything was entertaining.

Deville was able to pick up the win in this first match with a hand full of tights as she runs up the ramp from a scathing Rose. In a WWE Exclusive, Deville reiterated that she will ruin Rose and that she is nowhere near finished, she is just getting started.

The second match of the night focused on the SmackDown Women’s Championship match that will take place at MITB. Tamina and Lacey Evans teamed up to face on Bayley and Sasha Banks. The match mostly focused on Tamina and Bayley which makes sense as they are the two that will battle on Sunday. The match was okay, it had its spots and did what it was meant to do.

Tamina picked up with the victory with a pin on the champion after a super kick followed up by a Samoan Drop. Evans will be involved in the MITB Ladder Match on Sunday along with Dana Brooke and Carmella. Brooke and Carmella would have a quick interview backstage with both of them basically pumping themselves up as potential winners.

Let’s go over the Winner’s & Loser’s of the week.

WINNER: Sonya Deville

It is so funny how times have changed. For so many Winners & Losers columns, I would have to put Fire & Desire in the Loser section. Mostly it was due to their booking. I wasn’t too sure how I would feel about them being split up. I wasn’t too crazy to see them split up when there are only literally three tag teams in the division that I want to be better so bad. This combined with the fact I did want them to win as a team. But….this has been great.

Sonya has really shined. Mandy is doing great also, but it is Sonya that is really showing her chops as far as promos and storytelling. Mandy was more of a voice before, so it is good to see Sonya take a lead with this. I can’t wait to see how far this will go.

WINNER: Tamina

Tamina is looking strong heading into MITB with a win. Not only a win but a pin on the champion. If she finally wins a title (other than 24/7 of course) over Bayley who is the longest-reigning SmackDown Champion would be a big boost to her career. She doesn’t even need a long reign, just something to solidify her career. I am ready for it although it is still a long stretch.

LOSERS: Carmella & Dana Brooke

I feel like the MITB participants were put on the back burner. Sure Lacey had a match and she was talked up about her placement in the match, but the three women should have been given more. They could have even had the RAW participants show up and all six of them interact. I don’t know, I just felt there should have been more of a push for them.

Carmella impersonates her fellow WWE Superstars on social media

Carmella recently took the last spot for the upcoming Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Besides keeping busy in the ring, she has been keeping active on social media over the past few weeks. She has been impersonating her fellow colleagues by dressing up and lip syncing popular promos. She has been impersonating the following … Read more

Carmella clutches the last spot in the MITB Ladder Match

The field is finally set as we have our sixth and final participant in this year’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Carmella defeats Mandy Rose with a lot of help from Sonya Deville. This means that the first Ms. Money in the Bank has a chance to become the first two-time (or three-time according to Mella) briefcase winner.

Credit: @DynamiteSkye on Twitter

After a kick to the face to Rose from Carmella, she was able to pick up the pin. Midway through the match, Deville’s music hits and she takes to the mic for the remainder of the match taunting her former Fire & Desire teammate.

Deville takes a trip down memory lane as she recalls last year’s MITB event where she gave up her spot in the ladder match so that Rose could participate. She then helped her during the match by hoisting her up the ladder to grab the title shot and Rose still ended up losing.

Rose does what she can in order to concentrate on the task at hand and not let Deville in her head. She even is able to get a near fall and hits a massive right to Carmella. Instead of covering Carmella, Rose is completely distracted at this point by Deville who tells her to “karma is a bitch, bitch…bring it on.” Mella is then able to hit that kick and pick up the win.

After the match, Deville becomes unhinged and attacks Rose. She starts with several forearms and then follows it up outside of the ring. She runs Rose into the ring post and then into the steel steps. She follows it up with a knee to Rose that drives her back into the steps. The officials come out to separate her from Rose as they ask for medical. Deville is held back by the referee as she screams that she will end Rose.

Backstage after the loss and the attack, Rose is seen with medical. Otis shows up and is rightfully concerned for her well being. She lets him know that she will be fine. He leaves and is approached by Dolph Ziggler who asks him if Mandy is okay. Otis doesn’t reply as he is seething with anger.

Carmella joins Lacey Evans, Dana Brooke, Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax, and Asuka for the MITB opportunity coming up one week from Sunday.

What did you think of what transpired? Now that all six women are announced, who do you think will take the briefcase on May 10? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 04.10.20

Friday Night SmackDown picked up where RAW left off and that is with plenty to talk about from the women’s division. WrestleMania may be in the rear view, however, there is still plenty to build from as a result of that event. The match of the night saw The Kabuki Warriors getting a rematch for their former gold. They faced the new Women’s Tag Team Champions – Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss.

Another great match between these four women was a joy to watch. Personally, I feel that the WrestleMania match was better, but this one certainly was entertaining. Asuka and Cross arguing on top of the commentary desk was fun to watch. Speaking of Asuka, she certainly has been the glue that has held both RAW and SmackDown together. She has been appearing on both shows for the past several weeks and has been the most entertaining to see during this time.

The match culminated with Kairi Sane being isolated in the ring. This allowed for a blind tag by Cross. She would enter the match and hit a neck breaker to pick up the pin on Sane to retain the title. With these two being the only two teams left on-screen I couldn’t have been the only one wanting The IIconics to return tonight.

In regards to the tag team division there seems to be a new team brewing and that is Dana Brooke and Carmella. They were seen backstage approaching Bliss & Cross after their win. They challenged them to a match and although Bliss was reluctant, they accepted. There wasn’t any mention of when this match would take place but because Brooke and Carmella weren’t on WrestleMania they wanted a chance for the gold.

Brooke was also announced to be in a qualifying match for next week against Naomi for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match that will take place on May 10.

From the tag titles we transfer to the SmackDown Women’s Title. Bayley retained in a Fatal Five-way at Mania and she continues to think she is the unstoppable role model. Her and Sasha Banks stood in the ring and explained the opinions of the sheep. They were interrupted by a determined Tamina. The two best friends attempt to smooth things over as always with the compliments to her. Tamina wasn’t buying it and issued a challenge of her own. She explains that although she may have been first out during the Fatal Five-way match, it took all four of the other competitors to do so. She wants a title shot one-on-one with the longest reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Bayley would agree to this, however, Tamina has to go through Banks first next week. It has been a while since Tamina has been seen as an unstoppable force and also standing on her own instead of being the bodyguard for someone else. So could she be finally getting her moment?

Sonya Deville was also on the show to accompany Dolph Ziggler to ringside. Ziggler defeated Tucker and although it appears Mandy Rose is busy with Otis, Deville will meet with her next week. Deville and Ziggler maintain that the footage that was shown about their involvement with the Valentine’s date gone wrong was doctored. Let’s see how Deville talks her way out of this one as she will be face to face with Rose next week.

Let’s get into the Winners & Losers of the week:

WINNER: Sasha Banks

Banks has really been killing it on the mic. Her reactions to Tamina have been comical and having that during these times is a nice relief. Since Bayley was the one to make the match between Sasha and Tamina for next week, it seems that there is still that break up lurking. Although I won’t get my hopes up to much because we all know what happen for the majority of 2018 between the two.

WINNER: Dana Brooke

OPPORTUNITY!! Brooke was unfortunately taken out of the WrestleMania match but she is back and is ready to finally get some gold. Between her qualifying match for the MITB Ladder match as well a Women’s Tag Team Championship If anyone’s immediate future looks bright it would be Dana’s.

LOSER:

Everyone on tonight’s show seems to be moving forward in there storylines so it really is hard to pick a loser this week. The Kabuki Warriors could be considered on the losing end as they lost their rematch, but with how Asuka has been carrying both shows and the match itself being good that seems to be a stretch.

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 02.21.20

Much like RAW this week, SmackDown progressed many storylines as WrestleMania quickly approaches. The advertised match of the night saw Naomi face off against Carmella to see who would face Bayley for the blue brand’s title at Super ShowDown.

Unfortunately, this was the only women’s match of the night and it did start off super slow. It progressed nicely towards the end but by the time it picked up it was over and Naomi was the victor.

The Bella Twins were on ‘A Moment of Bliss’ to soak up an important announcement in their hometown. Alexa Bliss made it official that Nikki & Brie will be this years female inductees to the Hall of Fame. They were greeted with an overall warm response from the crowd and Bella Army.

Other women on the show included a sit down interview with Lacey Evans. The biggest take away was when Evans stated that she understood that she is at the back of the line for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She explained that she has to go through five women to get her shot. At this time a match has not been announced for Elimination Chamber. Could this mean we are getting two Elimination Chamber matches this year?

Fire & Desire also were present in backstage segments. As a follow up to Mandy Rose’s date with Otis last week, Tucker would approach the pair. He questioned why Rose did what she did being with Dolph Ziggler on Valentine’s Day instead of Otis. Rose stated that Otis didn’t show up. Tucker, seemingly confused, asked her why did she send a text saying that she was running late. Rose has no idea what text he is referring to. After Tucker left, Sonya Deville said to Rose that Ziggler seems to be more her type anyway.

For a full run down of the above events, you can check out the live coverage of the show by clicking here.

Let’s get to the Winners & Losers of the week.

WINNER: Naomi

Naomi got her title match. With only being back for a few weeks, Naomi has jumped full speed ahead to potentially go into WrestleMania as champion. Realistically, I personally don’t see Bayley losing the title less than two months away from the big show. With a rumor swirling around that Sasha Banks may be clear and ready, Naomi may not get to perform in Tampa, Fla. after all. Only time will tell that.

If what Lacey Evans says had any merit on the women of SmackDown possibly having an Elimination Chamber match as well, then Naomi will certainly be part of that. Regardless, Naomi vs. Bayley will be the first time that a women’s title will be defended in Saudi Arabia.

WINNER: The Bella Twins

The Bella Twins are big winners. The choice to have them inducted in this year’s Hall of Fame is certainly controversial. Regardless of how anyone feels about this, this is the ultimate end goal for many and this is just the icing on the top of all the positive things happening to them as of late.

Personally they earned this. They deserve to be in it, just look at the tweet below. Sure, the argument that many are having are saying it is “too soon.” To be honest, I feel that a lot of people are only saying that because they feel others should be put in first. I am not denying that other women such as Victoria, Melina, Molly Holly, etc. deserve their rightful spots in the Hall of Fame. They do. However, that shouldn’t negate The Bella Twins going in as well.

The way I look at it is that Edge went into the Hall of Fame the year after he had to retire. Nikki Bella is doing the same thing.

WINNER: Sonya Deville

Sonya is the silent winner of the week. Naomi and The Bella Twins were the loud and obvious ones. Sonya is clearly the one to send Otis that text and her “Ziggler is more your type” response to Mandy confirms it. Although I do want Fire & Desire to win the tag titles, seeing the storyline progress is great. Seeing Sonya becoming the true heel in all of this is even better.

LOSER: Carmella

Carmella definitely winds up on the loser list this week. Her short push seems to be over with. Hopefully, for her sake, she can still stay relevant leading up to WrestleMania. At this point, though unless she finds herself a tag team partner and WWE actually does something with the tag titles, she may be trying for a second win in the Women’s Battle Royal.
