Introducing Diva Dirt Style Jury: Week of September 7th, 2009

ddstylejury

Welcome to the Diva Dirt Style Jury! No more are the separate ‘Best’ and ‘Worst’ lists, instead we have come up with a scientific approach *cough* to compiling our weekly fashion column. The Diva Dirt team will weigh in on the different looks from the week gone by & mark each look with a score out of ten. The look with the highest average score will be our best look and the look with the lowest average score will be the worst look. Click each photo to see the look in full size.

Let the proverbial runway show begin!

THE BELLA TWINS
Erin: Is there a 2-for-1 special going for red ruffled polyester? I dig wrestlers having signature looks but this one stinks, especially on twice the Divas. 3/10
Melanie: Honestly, their overuse of colour sets off my gag reflex. They have nice legs though, so good to ditch the pants. 2/10
Steven: I’m ready to see this cha-cha inspired gear make it’s way to the garbage bag. 3/10
Tiffany: This outfit gets a 4 from me, for lack of imagination and too many damn ruffles. I think I’m being generous. 4/10

JILLIAN
Erin: Too bad she was stuck behind a podium on “contestant’s row”, because I really want to see more of the outfit. From what little we could see, I kinda liked it. 7/10
Melanie: She looks good but nothing too exciting here, so she gets a middle of the road score. 5/10
Steven: Cute and simple, but nothing mind-blowing. 8/10
Tiffany: Jillian looked great this week.  I love the simplicity, and it’s well put together. 8/10

KATIE LEA
Erin: I’m not quite sure if I like it. I definitely think it fits her character and demonstrates some creativity on her part, but I can’t imagine being able to even stomach it on any other Diva. That’s a testament to her spooky persona, I guess.. Still, I think the look could be a lot more cohesive. 6/10
Melanie: Not a fan of this particular style, but it’s unique and her own & she makes it work Tim Gunn-style. 6/10
Steven: Loving the gothic look on Katie, especially the top. The blonde dreads gotta go however. 7/10
Tiffany: Katie gets an automatic 8 for this outfit.  I’m a fan of the gothic-kooky girl look.  Or as Tazz would say, “Zombie hot.” 8/10

KELLY KELLY
Erin: Kelly’s gotten the memo that if you keep a look simple, and you’re less likely to fail. The glaring hot pink is kinda much (We know you’re a girl!), but it doesn’t really hurt the overall look. 7/10
Melanie: Extremely pleasant surprise from Kelly. Simple and classy. 7/10
Steven: I love that Kelly went for classy rather than trashy. The high-waisted skirt looks great on her. 9/10
Tiffany: Kelly made me proud this week.  She looked all grown up.  Hardly the glorified stripper of yesteryear. 7/10

The Tiffany Guide to Impact: More Backwards Booking

tnaimpact091109

This week on Impact treats us to even more tag team competition and something a little extra.  First in Knockout action is match numero tres of the 1st round: Taylor Wilde and Sarita vs. Alissa Flash and Daffney.  Have I mentioned just how much I loathe Taylor and Sarita’s ring entrance?

Taylor Wilde & Alissa Flash begin the match with a test of strength.  Taylor manages to outwrestle Alissa into an armbar, but Alissa slams her down.  With a kip up, Taylor laces fingers with Alissa and tags out to Sarita.  Taylor nails an arm drag with an assistance of the turnbuckles, and Sarita follow up with a flying arm drag.  Those two invent and impose multiple inventive tandem offense that I won’t even attempt to call.  A series of arial manuevers and arm drags later, Sarita attemps a dropkick, but Alissa braces herself against the ropes and charges back with a clothesline.

Daffney gets her chance to in on the action with a big uppercut to Sarita.  However, Sarita counters that with yet another arm drag and a flip over.  What is that, arm drag #304?  Daffney kicks out at two, and Taylor Wilde gets tagged in.  She attempts a sunset flip from the second rope, but Daffney rolls out before a count can be made.  Sarita channels some poetry in motion.  However, her not being the legal woman all encourages Slick Johnson to shoo her ass right out of the ring.  Meanwhile, Daffney whips Sarita into the opposing corner where she suffers a cheap shot courtesy of Alissa.  Alissa gets tagged in and goes back on the offense with a powerful scoop slam and a stomp to the face.

The “Lovely and Very Pasty” Daffney gets tag in again.  This time, she takes Taylor down with a Shining Wizard now aptly referred to as “Daff-Knees” and then follows up with an abdominal stretch.  Taylor wastes no time maneuvering out of the move with a knee to Daffney’s face.  Both women make the hot tag to their respective partners.  Sarita goes for a crossbody on both Alissa and Daffney, is abruptly stopped, but overcomes with a tornado DDT to Daffney.  With an assist from Sarita, Taylor delivers some more impressive offense to the Future Legend.  Sarita capitalizes with a splash, but Alissa gets the shoulder up 2 while Taylor and Daffney take the fight to the outside.  Sarita drops Alissa with a belly-to-belly suplex for the win?  WHAT?  All of that aerial work and only a standard finish to show for it?  Oh well.  Taylor Wilde and Sarita advance.

Sarita and Taylor Wilde seemingly do everything that they can to reiterate the “tag team aspect” in this tournament.  An overall good match, I find the constant aerial offense a bit gratuitous.  While awesome, it does little to add to the storytelling element.  Otherwise, “Taylor/Sarita” is the most believable team next to the Beautiful People.

Tweets of the Week: July 5th, 2009

It’s official: Twitter has become a full-blown internet phenomenon. I mean, what’s better than seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite celebs? I’ll tell you what – seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite Divas! That’s why we’ve devised a new weekly feature, titled Tweets of the Week, where we’ll take a look at what the women of wrestling have been tweeting this week: the funny, the poignant, and the random. We’ll scour Twitter and serve it up for you, complete with the requisite Diva Dirt charm.

This week’s #5 is FCW Diva and WWE trainee Angela Fong (@missangelafong) witnessing an age-old Fourth of July tradition with a mixture of fear and awe:

Clearly, competitive eating isn’t on her list of things to do. Maybe, as a Canadian, she doesn’t truly appreciate the good old fashioned American hot dog? Diva Dirt will have to air-mail her one.

#4 sees Divas Champion Maryse (@maryse0uellet) takes advantage of a recent tour through Australia to admire some of the locals.. sort of:

Her thick French accent vs. an Aussie accent? Tough choice.. Kind of like Marion Cotillard vs. Nicole Kidman. Gotta go with Kidman on this one. ;)

In #3, brings us Indy darling, former TNA Knockout, and SHIMMER girl Nikki Roxx (@RoxxiNikki) recounting an incident that proves physical humor is always the best humor:

Hopefully the guy’s okay, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be laughing my ass off too. But dude, watch out: car beats bicycle every time!

Exclusive: Roxxi Dishes on Her Release, Rhaka Khan and More

roxxi

Diva Dirt had the great opportunity to speak to recently departed TNA Knockout, Roxxi aka Nikki Roxx. Among the highlights, we talk to Roxxi about her release and that situation with Rhaka Khan. Plus Nikki’s thoughts on working for WWE, the Knockouts Championship and much more.

Nikki, thank you for taking the time out to do this interview with us. Diving right in, the obvious lead question would be about your TNA departure. Three weeks ago on your Twitter page, you wished TNA well in their future endeavors. There are conflicting reports about the situation; some say you requested the release and some say you were released by the company. Can you cast your mind back and tell us about the whole release?
ROXXI:
I was told TNA’s creative team had just gone as far as they can with my character. They are taking the company in a new direction.

In regards to TNA, over the past couple of months there has been talk of an altercation between you and fellow Knockout, Rhaka Khan that led to a 60 day suspension? Can you shed light on that for us?
ROXXI:
There was an altercation but that stuff happens in wrestling. There was a miscommunication in the ring between her and I, but it was solved that day. Her and I are actually friends. As for the suspension I have no idea what that was about. I was never told I was on suspension.

Do you have any reason to believe that situation may have led to your departure from the company?
ROXXI:
I would hate to think that was the reasoning. But from what I was told it was not.

There have been a lot of rumours in regards to Rhaka aside from the situation with yourself, from a trading card incident, to her so-called political stroke with Kurt Angle and more recently, working stiff with newcomer Madison Rayne. From working with her, can you tell us what your personal opinion of her is?
ROXXI:
My personal opinion of her is she is a good character but just needs a little more training in the ring is all.  She’s in a great place for that. Having that many great wrestlers surrounding her it should take no time.

Hit or Miss?: September 21st – 27th

Welcome to Hit or Miss?! We’ll be examining the week’s news bits and deeming them hits or misses. For instance, did a Diva develop some backstage heat? That’s a miss. What about a Knockout match receiving the highest ratings of the show? That’s a hit. I’ll rate each story by stars (out of 5) – more stars for a hit, less for a miss. Got it? Let’s dive in..

Story #1: Ashley’s gone, but not in every sense..
The upcoming video game release, “RAW vs. SmackDown 2009”, has announced many of its roster, the most surprising of which being Ashley Massaro, whom we all know was released from the WWE some time ago.. Hm.. I wonder how the *current* Divas who are MIA on this game feel about this? (Click for more info.)
Rating:
Hit or Miss?: 1 star makes it a MISS. I’m aware that they plan these video games out verrrryyy far in advance, but it is pretty ironic that when roster space is pretty limited on these games, one of the precious spots will be taken by a Diva who is not only no longer with the company, but also left a bitter taste in many a fan’s mouth. I always think it’s kind of cool to see a Diva all digitized an whatnot, but Ashley looks absolutely atrocious in the game. Seriously – look at the photo above – those makers did her no favors.

Story #2: TNA “Knocked Out” gets.. knocked out.
TNA recently released its “Knocked Out” DVD, solely dedicated to its Knockouts. It featured interviews with each Knockouts, as well as behind-the-scenes looks at photoshoots and stories of their respective paths to TNA. Diva Dirt reviewed the DVD, and it didn’t exactly pass with flying colors.. The main complaint was that TNA seemed to be more concerned with elevating their Knockouts above the Divas – it came across as arrogant and cocky. That, paired with empty and less-than-inspired chapters on each Knockout made us wonder if the DVD was even necessary. (See the original post.)
Rating:
Hit or Miss?: 1 & 1/2 a star makes it a MISS. I appreciate that TNA is looking to push the Knockout brand by releasing this DVD, but I think they should have rounded up some better content. Constant comparisons to “other women wrestlers” does nothing to help theme in fact, it hinders their growth as a separate entity. If I wanted to watch boring character profiles and exhausting self-congratulations, I’d watch the Emmys, thanks..

TNA Impact Redux For 7/10/07

Thursday night’s Impact show was an overall success for the Knockouts (*surprise, surprise*). For the most part, each lady involved had a formidable appearance. The Knockouts Salinas, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, ODB, Gail Kim, Karen Angle, Taylor Wilde, Roxxi, Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed were all featured in some way, shape, or form.

Thoughts & Reactions:
Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong (Title Match):
The first Knockouts match was the $25,000 and TNA Knockouts title match between Taylor Wilde and Awesome Kong. Taylor got some good offense but was pretty boring overall. I just mean, that her only real way to get Kong down was to keep dropkicking her. She needs some better strategy in my opinion. During the contest, Roxxi came down to cheer on “the newbie”. Near the end of the contest, Kong hit a flawless “Implant Buster”, which Taylor somehow kicked out of. The end of the match came when Taylor made a surprise roll-up pin on Kong for the win, the $25,000, and the TNA Knockouts Championship. Will Taylor be able to retain the title on tonights PPV “Victory Road”? We’ll just have to wait and see. My bet says she will.

TNA Impact Redux For 7/3/08

impact redux

Today Kicks off Diva Dirt’s first “Impact Redux”, brought to you by yours truly, Doug. Most of the TNA Knockouts were shown throughout the show, including: Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Roxxi, Moose, Taylor, Raisha Saeed, Awesome Kong, Karen Angle and Salinas, who all made for an interesting event.

Thoughts & Reactions
Roxxi vs. Moose:
The first set of Knockouts shown, I believe were Roxxi and Moose in a “Bimbo Brawl”. Moose entered first with her shopping cart of weapons, while Roxxi entered second with a chair. The match was utterly brutal, with Roxxi getting hit upside the head with two pans, and a “Yield” sign. Moose also took a beating, getting thrown into her shopping cart, and than getting a nasty baseball slide by Roxxi. The match ended when Moose set up the “Yield” sign on the mat, and planted Roxxi with a double underhook DDT on top of it. Roxxi was shown with a large cut on her forehead, and was bleeding pretty badly.

Overall, the match was pretty well done. Both ladies had great chemistry with one another, making the overall atmosphere pretty bitter. Roxxi and Moose each got their fair share of blows, and each showed an incredible amount of skill throughout.
