Raw Redux (July 18th, 2011): 45 Seconds of Pure Diva Action… Heck Yes!

Sigh. Well, this week’s Redux is going to be short, sweet, and to the point. Even I can’t work magic from a 45 second encounter. For some ungodly reason, the WWE decided to throw all the Divas onto the show and we got a ridiculous seven Diva tag match. All I can say is thank … Read more

SmackDown Redux (July 15th, 2011): WWE Hasn’t Completely Forgotten the Divas Champion Can Appear on SmackDown Too

WWE Superstars Redux (June 23rd, 2011): Buy One, Get One Free

Wow, two matches on one show? How did we get so lucky? No, that’s not sarcasm. I’m genuinely pleased that there are two Divas matches on WWE Superstars this week, mostly because of the show’s reputation for producing longer, better Divas matches. Let’s see if these two matches deliver: We start off with a 6-Diva … Read more

SmackDown Redux (June 17th, 2011): Two Minutes of Wrestling Is Better Than A Chorus Line

Yes… I went there.

I think it’s fair to say that this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw was nothing more than a big ole mess. Fourteen divas, one ring, and no time is never a good combination but when things end up with a chorus line or a kick line, or whatever the hell you want to call it, it’s just not good for anyone involved. I can only thank the wrestling gods high in squared circle heaven for sparing at least seven of the girls the utter humiliation of just looking dumb. As far as the other seven… well, at least three of them got a chance to redeem themselves on SmackDown. The war between the heels and the faces continued on this Friday and we finally got our six Diva tag team match. Natalya joined her rookie pals, AJ and Kaitlyn, to take on Tamina, Alicia Fox, and Rosa Mendes. Will the heels reign supreme or will the faces carrying their kick line momentum to another victory?

Like usual, we kick things off with the entrances and rather than just letting us see the face entrance, we get the heel entrance this week as well. Alicia, Tamina, and Rosa come out to Alicia’s music and they stand in the ring with their bitch faces on while the faces make their way to the ring. I also thank the wrestling gods for not letting me hear AJ’s theme again, and if all she ever does is tag with and use Natalya’s music from here on out… I’m okay with that. Anyway, the faces pose for the crowd and it’s decided that Alicia and Kaitlyn will begin.

Raw Redux (June 13th, 2011): A Chorus Line… Seriously?

This week on a special three hour edition of Raw, all the Divas from SmackDown and Raw are coming together for a good ol’ fashioned 7-on-7 tag team match. Judging from past experiences, this should be quite… er, interesting… Watch below as Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix, Eve, Gail Kim, Natalya, AJ and Kaitlyn take on … Read more

SmackDown Redux (June 10th, 2011): Lay-Cool Called. They Want Their Gimmick Back.

It’s definitely been a dismal two weeks for new SmackDown Diva, AJ. Two tag team matches, two losses, and two weeks of non-helpful advice from the Queen of Harts herself, Natalya. But with a new week comes new opportunities and our girl finally gets a singles match. Her opponent is none other than second-generation starlet, Tamina. Will AJ’s losing streak continue or will Tamina continue to impress on Friday nights?

AJ’s big singles debut kicks off with her standing backstage with some random announcer dude that is not Matt Striker. He introduces her and when AJ starts to speak, she gets interrupted by Tamina and Rosa Mendes. They have a present for AJ and when she opens it, it’s a block of fake cheese. They call AJ a mousey loser, which is stupid, and AJ tells them that Lay-Cool want their gimmick back.

Oh boy. Rosa and Tamina are not convincing bitchy heel characters and that segment was all kinds of lame. I’m not usually so harsh but that was Kelly Kelly/Drew McIntyre bad. Yikes.

Surely the match will be better, right?

SmackDown Redux (June 3rd, 2011): Tamina Win Match For Heels

This week’s episode of SmackDown brought us a rematch of sorts from last week. The ChickBusters (Kaitlyn and AJ), with Natalya at their side, took on Team Heel featuring Alicia Fox and Tamina. The most notable difference this week is that the heels countered Natalya’s presence by adding the rarely seen Rosa Mendes to ringside (I guess she is heel again). Will Rosa’s presence bring anything to the match? Will AJ and Kaitlyn pull out the victory this week? Will Alicia continue to just be the fiercest Diva ever? Lets stop wasting time and find out.

When SmackDown returns from what I can only assume has been a commercial break, A-Fox’s music is playing in the background and the so-called bad girls of SmackDown are posing in the ring. It’s only a few seconds later that Alicia’s theme fades and Natalya’s begins to blare across the PA system. Dressed in the most gorgeous sequined mini I’ve ever seen on SmackDown, Nattie leads her rookies out onto the stage. Kaitlyn and AJ look ready for battle and they all head to the ring. Much like last week, a backstage video begins playing while this is going on.

Unwrapped (May 22nd, 2011): Gail, Maryse, Rosa, Rosita & Velvet Sky

Every week, following WWE.com and TNAWrestling.com’s photoshoot updates, we’ll take a look at the newest Diva and Knockout shoots and give you the opportunity to voice your opinions on them in a feature we lovingly call Unwrapped. Let’s unwrap this week’s eye candy, featuring Gail Kim, Maryse, Rosa Mendes, Rosita and Velvet Sky:

Gail Kim
I could’ve sworn that this photoshoot lost about 3 photos between when I first saw it and now. Strange, but I’ll work with what I’ve got. Gail’s wearing one of those hoodie dresses in a vibrant shade of blue, pairing it with black over-the-knee boots. Most of the shoot consists of her playing with the hood, and so while they make for some pretty photos, they aren’t all that interesting. The most I get out of this photoshoot is how good the blue looks on Gail. I’m pretty sure this dress is from American Apparel, or at the very least least similar to something they sell. It’s nice to see someone wearing it looks as those she’s showered recently and is wearing a bra. It just goes to show you how a few touches can make something look so much more flattering. Still, due to the lack of diversity in her poses, this shoot is missing a spark–but not to the degree that she’s replicating American Apparel’s favorite “dead in the eyes” look. No, Gail looks quite alive here.

Maryse
Maryse looks positively golden here, and not just in a metaphorical sense: from her hair to her dress, she’s as bright as her sparkling jewelry. The sequin-covered dress is short and otherwise simple, but Maryse makes it look natural and decidedly un-racy by pairing it with complimentary shoes and jewelry. They all stick to a similar color scheme, allowing the dress to take center stage. The one thing that threatens to take focus from the dress is Maryse’s hair–the wind machine is whipping it around so much it looks like she may take flight. It’s very vintage supermodel-esque, and I suppose the mini-dress adds to that visual. Her poses play into that theme as well–she looks casually intimidating, if you get what I mean. It’s Maryse being her arrogant self, but not looking as though it takes a lot of effort to look so cool. It’s as if she looks like this 24/7, complete with wind machine. If that’s not the mythos of the classic supermodels, I don’t know what is.

Unwrapped (April 24th, 2011): Alicia, Kelly, Rosa & Velvet Sky

Every week, following WWE.com and TNAWrestling.com’s photoshoot updates, we’ll take a look at the newest Diva and Knockout shoots and give you the opportunity to voice your opinions on them in a feature we lovingly call Unwrapped. Let’s unwrap this week’s eye candy, featuring Alicia Fox, Kelly Kelly, Rosa Mendes and Velvet Sky:

Alicia Fox
Alicia displays her ability to make a photoshoot interesting based merely on what she brings to the table: her look and poses. Her dress and matching shoes are vibrant and unique, the sleeves puffing out like some sort of bird’s defense mechanism. That’s not to say it’s not a good look on her–it is! It probably helps that the dress’s pattern looks somewhat like feathers and her hair is appropriately messy. Think of it like Natalie Portman in Black Swan, but she’s turning into a tropical bird instead of a swan. All bird references aside, Alicia pulls off the look with ease, and her poses are, as usual, a natural mixture of cute and sexy. A think a brighter setting–even a white studio background–would have better complimented this lively look. Still, Alicia does more than her fair share of the work in making this photoshoot pop.

Kelly Kelly
From one photoshoot the lacks any sort of setting to one that is practically alive with activity! Kelly poses in front of a interesting building and a gorgeous body of water, and her outfit is sleek, if decidedly un-touristy. The all-over black lessens the visual impact of the tied-up shirt and shredded jeans and makes them look pretty stylish instead of overdone. Her poses look less like a Diva posing in a photoshoot and more like a traveler taking photos for Facebook, but it would probably look strange if she was pulling out all the stops, don’t you think? I think Kelly does the right thing here, smiling, standing statuesquely and letting the scenery do the talking. This results in some really beautiful photos.

SmackDown Redux (April 15th, 2011): Michelle Has Frankenstein Feet While Rosa and Edge Audition for a Telenovela

It’s poor form to jack my intro simply to gush about Edge but since this is my Redux and my platform, I’m going to do exactly that. Besides if you want to be technical he has starred in a couple of these Reduxes and he’s had more than his fair share of Diva storylines. Edge is a brilliant performer and someone who I’ve adored ever since I first got into wrestling. He has it all; looks, talent, charisma, and the ability to make you feel what he feels. On Monday night, when he shockingly retired, I felt numb. I felt like I had just lost a little piece of my wrestling heart. I kind of did, if you want to be fair. No heel has ever made me cheer for them louder and I swear it has nothing to do with the fact Edge is gorgeous or that we share the same birthday. Edge is just that talented. And he is going to be sorely missed. I truly hope everyone can recognize the brilliance that Edge brought to the table. Love him or hate him, he got you talking about him. And I respect the hell out of him.

Thank you, Edge.

Okay, now on to tonight’s show! My mascara is fixed. I’m not going to drown in my tears any longer. Last week, Beth Phoenix and Kelly Kelly returned to action with a victory over Michelle McCool and Layla. This week, Kelly steps back inside the ring to try and prove that her victory in the tag team match was no fluke. She takes on Layla, who’s desperate to try and repair her relationship with her former BFF.

Toss in a therapy session and Rosa Mendes auditioning for Telemundo’s hottest telenovela, Los Herederos del Monte, and you have this week’s amazing edition of the SD Redux!

The doctor welcomes both girls to their first session and immediately Michelle questions why they’re there. They’re not Brangelina, Beyonce and Jay-Z, or any other “couple” in the world for that matter. She also wants to know why Layla is holding her hand and promptly jerks it away. A tissue holding Layla tells Michelle that they’re a team, kind of like Burt and Ernie or “Thelmer” and Louise. Michelle rolls her eyes and corrects Layla’s pronunciation of “Thelma” and says it’s great that Layla wants to compare them to puppets and two characters who drove off a cliff together. Layla says they were best friends like she and Michelle used to be. Michelle places emphasis on the “used to be” part and both girls go silent for a moment.

Unwrapped (April 3rd, 2011): Bella Twins, Kaitlyn & Rosa

Every week, following WWE.com and TNAWrestling.com’s photoshoot updates, we’ll take a look at the newest Diva and Knockout shoots and give you the opportunity to voice your opinions on them in a feature we lovingly call Unwrapped. Let’s unwrap this week’s eye candy, featuring Brie and Nikki Bella, Kaitlyn and Rosa Mendes:

Brie & Nikki Bella
To match their attitudes, the Bellas are wearing black dresses. To show a slight difference in personality, their styles are different: Nikki’s sporting a tighter dress, messy hair and leopard print tights while Brie’s dress has a fuller, frillier skirt and her tights are solid. It shows that they’ve put some thought into their outfits and I like that. After all, they don’t have to be clones of each other, even if they are both heels. Their poses are more serious and seductive, and it makes the photos look much less staged–I think I’m so used to them doing cutesy twin poses that I’m surprised at how interesting a photo with them just standing next to each other can be. They let their personalities show. When I’ve complained about their more gimmicky photoshoots, this was what I was asking for: simplicity. Here, the Bellas show that they’re more than capable of making ‘simple’ look interesting.

Kaitlyn
Kaitlyn looks perfectly relaxed and comfortable in her poses, but perhaps too comfortable. They’re not very diverse, and make for a rather dull photoshoot. Wearing a frilly top and leopard print skirt was probably an effort to bring interest to the shoot, but it’s not enough. There’s just an obvious lack of personality in the photos, and while that may be due to the fact that Kaitlyn hasn’t really developed a character, this photoshoot is just rather lifeless. It reminds me of the early photoshoots from Kaitlyn’s fellow NXT rookies: pretty, but boring. I know she’s capable of pulling off interesting shoots, because her first full WWE photoshoot as a Diva had me hooked. This one must be her sophomore slump.

In Pictures: More Pics from Axxess Including Sunny, Snooki and Wendi Richter

Some more exclusive snaps from Axxess this past week sent in by David.

As previously noted, Wendi Richter was at Axxess yesterday signing autographs and looked fantastic. David noted that was incredibly personable.

Also at Axxess yesterday was none other than Snooki, signing copies of her New York Times bestselling book. (Seriously! She’s a bestseller!)

SmackDown Redux (March 25th, 2011): Famous, Flawless… Fist Pump?

You knew it was going to happen sooner or later.

With Jersey Shore star Snooki in the mix at WrestleMania, it was only a matter of time before Lay-Cool dressed up as the ‘guidette’ — and that’s exactly what they did on SmackDown this week. Try not to hurt your neck… it’s time to fist pump, Lay-Cool style:

Kicking off the Divas portion of the show are Kelly Kelly and Rosa Mendes set for tag team action against the ‘flawless BFFs’. Out they come in some interesting — and not at all ring-ready — outfits, plus the trademark Snooki poof hair, huge slippers and hairspray.

Kelly Kelly is all business and ready to wrestle but in true Lay-Cool style, Layla and Michelle ham up their Jersey Shore spoof, fist pumping and to their hearts’ content. That is until Kelly and Rosa break up the party by taking them down to the mat. Let the slippers fly!

SmackDown Redux (March 4th, 2011): One Loaded Boot Coming Right Up!

Welcome to yet another edition of the SmackDown Redux. As always it is written by yours truly and proudly sponsored by ClickWrestle dot com. Wait, this isn’t an audio show. It’s been a long week, what can I say? And honestly, speaking of long weeks, it’s a few long weeks since we last got a chance to see Beth Phoenix in action on SmackDown. This week, the Glamazon returned to the Blue Brand, teaming with her former Raw running budding, Rosa Mendes. They took on the team of former co-Diva Champions, Michelle McCool and Layla. How did the match go? Well lets take a look, shall we?

The team of Beth and Rosa make their way to the ring first. Brings back memories of Rosa being Beth’s sidekick doesn’t it? Beth is wearing her awful red Glamasuit (sorry David, but it’s an eyesore) and Rosa is wearing silver-gray and black. They pose for the fans once they’re in the ring and Lay-Cool’s theme music begins to play. Michelle and Layla, both in their eye sore outfits, do their usual shtick on the stage before they go to the ring. A video recapping Rosa’s shock win over Layla last week is shown and the dissension between Lay-Cool is teased despite the fact Michael Cole insisting everything is fine now. We switch back to the ring and Lay-Cool can’t seem to decide who will begin the match. Michelle finally takes the initiative and the bell rings. Beth and Michelle (hurt foot and all) lock up and the Glamazon is quick to get behind Michelle, lock her arms around her waist, and take her down to the mat. Beth hops up and grabs the injured foot much to Michelle’s horror. The ex-schoolteacher starts screaming and pleading, but Beth shows no mercy and slams her fist right into that boot. Michelle screams like she just got stabbed with a rusty butcher knife and while she’s withering around in pain, Beth tags in the Freakin’ Costa Rican, Rosa!

SmackDown Redux (February 25th, 2011): Vickie’s Reign of Terror Comes to an End. Lay-Cool Continue to Fall Apart.

(Sorry for the lateness of this Redux. I don’t make this a habit but last night a migraine hit me and I couldn’t finish it. So yeah, apologies everyone.)

The six-hundredth episode of SmackDown went off without a hitch in my humble opinion and to say the Elimination Chamber was amazing would be an understatement. The momentum kept on rolling with a solid Raw, so with history not on the side of the Divas, this SmackDown can either be a hit, or it can be a total miss. I’m not entirely sure which it’s going to be because I’m writing this intro without having watched the show. So how about you great readers take this journey with me this week?

SmackDown doesn’t really waste any time getting started this week. Before the intros even roll, a video package highlighting last week’s firing of Dolph Ziggler is shown. This is relevant to us Diva fans because number one, Dolph is sexy, and number two, it involves Vickie Guerrero. And Vickie is made of win. Once the package concludes, SmackDown General Manager, Theodore Long, is shown on the screen. He says that due to Vickie’s involvement with Dolph and Dolph’s attack on him (Teddy), Teddy has every right to fire Vickie. But instead of doing that, he is going to give Vickie a chance to fight for her job. Tonight’s main event is going to be a mixed tag team match featuring the team of Vickie and former Intercontinental Champion, Drew McIntyre, taking on the team of Kelly Kelly and the World Heavyweight Champion Edge. If Drew and Vickie lose, then Vickie can kiss her SmackDown career goodbye. Teddy smiles, takes off his glasses, and the SmackDown intro begins to play.

Do you know the enemy….
