Impact Write-Up (January 27th, 2011): The Beautiful People Need a Wintervention

First, I want to apologize if I am running behind this week. Lack of internet and a brain on behalf of my internet provider has put me on a slow schedule. Nonetheless, I welcome you to another edition of the weekly TNA iMPACT Write-Up! Last week, we saw a fourway Knockouts match take place between four of your favorite Knockouts. A few delivered some new techniques while others fell short of their recent glory. We also saw a rather tumultuous and dramatic soap opera begin to unfold between TNA’s power couple and her ex-husband. It wasn’t pretty and it only lead to further development this week. We’ve got screaming, fighting and a whole lot of Knockout action on iMPACT this week so let’s get this ball rolling!

Our first major action of the night; a six Knockout tag team elimination match. Sarita is out first, doing her little shimmy to the ring, dressed in attire that I actually cannot disagree with this week. I can dig it a lot better than the long sleeves, which are not flattering. She’s working the cleavage, but I’m sure no one enjoyed it long  considering she almost killed herself trying to flip into the ring. Perhaps if she learned to put the “L” for loser on the other hand, that might not happen. Just saying. SHE’S A KILLER QUEEN! Out next are her partners, the team of Tara and the Knockouts Champion, Madison Rayne. They come roll to the ring on Tara’s crotch rocket, in usual style and Madison is still wearing that crown and sash. But thank the queen herself! Madison has a new outfit this week! A whole new outfit! Black and white certainly fits her, especially with that coveted glove. Shock and awe!

A quick slap to the backside and a kiss for good luck, the Rayne of Tara duo(there you go) get into the ring and begin waving to their oh so dedicated fans. I’m not really sure what Tara is wearing this week. It looks like pajamas but the key is that elbow brace. We most definitely have to keep an eye on that. HARDCORE COUNTRY! On the other side of the ring will stand Mickie James, who bounds out to the ring like a child hyped up on pixie sticks. As usual, she is wearing her cut off daisy dukes and plaid tie up. Oddly enough, I just realized how much I actually like her boots. Huh. Anyway, her partners for the evening are the original Beautiful People, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. The music hits, lights go up but instead of an entrance, we’re taken backstage. TBP are ready go to and give each other a double high five to cement that. And yes, they are wearing Hustler dresses. Well, I’m assuming that is what they are. Why you would wear a dress to the ring, I’m not certain but if anyone can do it, they can.

Unwrapped: Melina Emerges from the Shadows

22

View Melina’s photoshoot by clicking here.

Our Unwrapped feature is making its return! Every Thursday, coinciding with WWE.com’s weekly photoshoot updates, we’ll take a look at the newest Diva photoshoot and give you the opportunity to voice your opinions on it. Let’s unwrap this week’s eye candy..

It seems like it’s been forever since Melina has had a published photoshoot. It’s been so long, in fact, that her latest shoot featured her posing with her long-lost Divas Championship, which, by the way, she lost in September. It’s a shame, because Melina’s photoshoots usually have a pizzaz to them, a certain spark that tells you that she’s always trying something new, whether through it’s a pose or a clothing choice. Does this new shoot deliver that same feeling? Let’s see:

The Look: If Melina’s got a “theme”, wardrobe-wise, it’s animalistic. Whether that’s shown through furry boots or all-over animal print, it’s usually present in some form or another. Here, she’s donning a turquoise and brown dress with a smattering of cheetah print, paired with brown over-the-knee suede boots and a curly mane of hair. Yep, this is Melina to a T. The outfit is flattering and sexy without showing too much: exposing her back instead of her chest is a lot more alluring, in my opinion. She works the outfit well.

The Poses: The poses and setting are interesting; half-hidden in shadow, Melina looks mysterious and sexy, and the photos manage to make (what looks like) a garage door look artistic, which is a feat in itself. Melina mixes up her poses and relies on a few old tricks (the “hand up” pose), which make for some really interesting photos; most are intriguing rather than cheeky. The exception to that, of course, would be two of the poses on the trunk (you know which ones I’m referring to). Let’s just say that if the cameraman worked for TMZ instead of the WWE and caught Melina in those poses, we’d be seeing almost as much of he as we’ve seen of Paris Hilton in the mere act of getting out of a car. For the most part, I appreciate the relative simplicity of the shoot and how she managed to pull a lot of sexiness out of just lighting and facial expressions.

Originality: The lighting, with the shadows enveloping part of Melina, are certainly different from the brightly lit studio photos we’ve seen from her lately, giving the photoshoot an intimate feel that makes it stand out. It’s not dramatically different from other Melina shoots, but a few tweaks (the lighting, the placement of her arms) are enough to make this shoot feel unique.

Overall: I really like it. It’s purely Melina, from the animal-print dress to the high-heeled boots to the relaxed poses. I like when a photoshoot reflects a Diva’s personality and style so clearly while mixing things up enough to ensure that it doesn’t feel like we’ve seen it a hundred times before. This photoshoot accomplishes that completely. Rating: 4.5/5

Mr. Glamazon’s Hitting the Ropes: Glam Slam Mailbag #5 + Glam Slam Reader Profile

8

Hello everyone!  I hope your 2011 is off to a flying start.  I’m excited for the year ahead and the Glam Slam mailbag is one of the main reasons.  I really enjoy answering your questions, plus I think the Reader Redux is another cool way for you to voice your opinions.  It’s catching on.  Look for two more great essays in this mailbag!

Once again, thanks to all of you who submitted questions!

“What are you New Year’s Eve traditions and what are your resolutions for [this] year?”

Mr. G – Man, New Year’s Eve is a LOT different now that we have kids.  In the old days my wife and I used to love going out to parties and visiting with friends.  Now we put the kids to bed, open up some champagne, and watch the network count-down shows.  Usually one of us doesn’t even stay awake long enough to see the ball drop!  I know, I know…we live like rock stars.  As for resolutions, I normally don’t make any because I try to make positive changes every day.  But this year I did make two – drink more water and get more sleep – because, let’s face it, these bags under my eyes really aren’t attractive.

WWE Bringing Back Diva Search

101

The WWE Diva Search could be making a comeback, according to a report on PWTorch.

According to a user who wrote into the site, WWE held a conference today for the marketing industry, highlighting new sponsorship opportunities within WWE, including the return of the Diva Search.

It’s reported that WWE’s Director of Partner Marketing, Julie Stenz made mention of the return of the Diva Search, noting that sponsorship opportunities are available for the competition.

The competition is said to be pencilled in for 10 weeks on regular WWE programming (i.e. Raw, SmackDown etc).

The last Diva Search competition ran in 2007 and was won by Eve Torres.

More details can be found here.

UPDATE: It seems the news is indeed true, according to PWInsider.com. WWE is said to have been auditioning women for several months now. That would explain the casting call the company put out for new Divas last year.

Britani and Saraya Knight Announced for SHIMMER

13

British wrestlers Britani and Saraya Knight are coming to SHIMMER!

The mother-and-daughter duo, who are two of the centerpieces of Pro-Wresting: EVE in the UK, have been confirmed the March 26th and 27th tapings in Berwyn, IL.

According to an official announcement, the Knights are looking to compete for the SHIMMER Tag Team Championships currently held by the Canadian Ninjas, Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews.

The Knights are a living, breathing wrestling dynasty which includes parents Saraya and Ricky Knight, Britani and her brothers Zak Zodiac and Zebra Kid.

Last year, Britani took part in a WWE tryout and was also featured on our ‘Five to Watch‘ list.

Thoughts: This is definitely a great addition to the SHIMMER roster. I thoroughly look forward to the possibility of the Ninjas vs the Knights. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Britani and Saraya as the new SHIMMER Tag Champs by the end of the weekend.

Trish Rumored for 2012 WWE Hall of Fame

78

7-time Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus has been linked to next year’s WWE Hall of Fame, according to the Wrestling Observer.

The Observer reports that WrestleMania 28 will likely emanate from Toronto, Canada — Trish’s hometown — thus making her one of the discussed names for the Class of 2012.

Of course, Trish’s career with WWE came to an end in her hometown back in September 2006.

Thoughts: While it may seem early for Trish to be inducted, for the stars to align (‘Mania in Toronto) like this, I would agree that it makes sense for Trish to be inducted. The other name rumored at the moment for next year’s class is The Rock. Of course, it should be stressed that these names are just being discussed within WWE, no formal negotiations have taken place and no decisions have been made at this point.

We hear it’s sitting pretty in Toronto with Trish’s other multiple accolades! (Just think — our award next to her Diva of the Decade award!)

Once again, a big congratulations to Trish!

Michelle McCool Reveals Recent Neck Injury, Comments on Tables Match

35

Former Divas Champion, Michelle McCool spoke to her official site MichelleMcCool.net recently in celebration of her 31st birthday and revealed a few noteworthy tidbits in the interview.

McCool revealed her recent neck injury, a bulging disc between her C5 and C6 vertebrae. Michelle said:

I did have two bulging disc in my neck (between C5 & C6). I’m not sure exactly when it occurred or if it just happened as a result of constant wear and tear, but boy did it hurt! It was probably the worst, pain wise, at Hell in a Cell. I remember barely being able to move my neck at all. It was so bad that day (& about 4-5 days after) that I couldn’t even bend my head down far enough to scratch my forehead. I was diagnosed the following Tuesday after HIAC when I had an MRI. I took it easy in the ring for a few weeks after.

She also commented on the tables match last December between herself, Layla and Natalya & Beth Phoenix.

MsChif to Wrestle Screech from Saved by the Bell?

8

Here’s something that I never thought I’d be writing about: former SHIMMER Champion MsChif could be facing Screech from Saved by the Bell in a wrestling match!

Actor Dustin Diamond, who has dabbled in wrestling on and off in the past — including a stint on Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling — will appear at AAW in Merrionette Park, IL on February 11th and has laid down an open challenge which has been accepted by MsChif!

Check out footage of her accepting the challenge below:

Raw Redux (January 24th, 2011): Melina Bent in Half, Bella Twins Bent Out of Shape

83

After a confusing edition of Raw last week, WWE had a lot of work to do to get everyone on the same page again. Luckily for us, WWE managed to work almost every Diva (Sorry Eve) into the show and it worked out really well. First up, Melina cashes in her title shot, squaring off with Natalya for the Divas Championship. Check out the match below:

Out first is the challenger, Melina, minus red carpet and paparazzi. Next, Natalya makes her way to the ring, championship belt in tow. The official presents the belt to the audience, signals for the bell and our match is underway. The lovely ladies lock up and Melina gets the upper hand, forcing Natalya to the ropes. The referee breaks them up, but Melina tackles Nattie, sending her flying out of the ring. Melina picks Nattie up off the floor, slaps her across the face (Just one of many slaps to come tonight) and tosses her back in the ring.

More on TNA’s New UK TV Deal; British Fans Will Have to Wait Longer for Impact

3

More details have been revealed about TNA’s new UK TV deal with Challenge TV, including some slightly bad news.

UK viewers will now have to wait an extra three days to watch Impact, as the show will now air on Tuesday nights at 10pm — that’s 5 days after it airs in the US. Previously, the show aired on Saturdays, just two days after US broadcast.

Pay per views will air on Wednesdays. No day has been given for Xplosion as yet.

More details can be found here.

TNA Finds a New Home in the UK

16

TNA programming has found a new home in the UK on Challenge TV, Dixie Carter revealed on Twitter today.

All TNA programming (including Impact, Xplosion and I’m assuming pay per views) will air on Challenge from February.

Challenge is primarily known for being the ‘game show channel’, with most of its schedule made up of reruns of old game shows. TNA would probably be the only original programming on the channel. There’s a joke in there somewhere about TNA.

It should be noted that the new deal means TNA shows will air on Sky, Virgin and for the first time, Freeview.

FCW Watch: AJ vs Naomi (FCW Divas Championship Match)

As we found out a while, NXT 3 competitors, AJ and Naomi faced off in FCW with the FCW Divas title on the line. Who will come out on top? Check out the match below:

Thoughts: Another great match from these two ladies. They gel so well in the ring and I hope to see them get the call up rsoon and display their skills on a grander stage. While I preferred their match on NXT 3, this match really impressed me. What did you guys think? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Sunny Responds to Hall of Fame Rumors

15

Former WWE Diva, Sunny has responded to rumors that she claimed she will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

Writing on her Facebook page, she wrote:

FOR THE RECORD: (yes, websites may copy this): I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY ANYONE IN THE WWE ABOUT ANY UPCOMING APPEARANCES FOR WRESTLEMANIA WEEKEND.. I AM BOOKED TO APPEAR ON THE ROH SHOWS IN ATLANTA, AND THAT IS ALL. Please do ont fill my facebook wall with rumors….thanks.

Not sure how or where these rumors began, but there you go.

Divas Title Match Set for Royal Rumble… But Not the One You’d Think

87

If you raised an eyebrow as to why WWE booked Melina vs Natalya for Raw instead of on the pay per view in six days, here’s why: Melina’s out of the title picture and Lay-Cool are in.

Natalya will defend her Divas Championship against one or both members of Lay-Cool at the Royal Rumble this Sunday as they ‘cash in their rematch clause’.

EDIT: WWE.com has clarified that it’ll be both members of Lay-Cool taking on Natalya at the Rumble.
