She reported to FCW in late June and recently made her television debut at the last set of tapings, taking on Naomi in a match that will air in the middle of October.

Trish Stratus Talks Divas Division, Tips Beth to Win at Night of Champions

55

WWE.com has an exclusive video interview with seven-time Women’s Champion Trish Stratus that was filmed this past Tuesday when she attended the SmackDown taping in Toronto.

Trish is asked who she thinks will win at Night of Champions tomorrow night and says Beth Phoenix has her support. “I think it’s a good direction for the women’s division,” she says.

Matt Striker also asks Trish about the recent debate in the Divas division about beauty vs brawn, suggesting that many of the Divas think you can only be one of the two. Trish says: “I think every Diva embodies both of those characteristics. Just watching the Divas division as a whole makes me proud.”

Night of Champions Rewind: Divas Championship & Women’s Championship Unified (2010)

57

We are just 24 hours away from this year’s Night of Champions where Kelly Kelly defends the Divas Championship against Beth Phoenix. So, as we prepare for their encounter, let’s take a look back at past Night of Champions matches…

2010 | While Kelly and Beth battle for the Divas Title tomorrow night, it was one year ago that the belt became the only official championship for the Divas as WWE unified the Divas and Women’s Championships. It would be Melina vs Michelle McCool to determine the first ever Unified Divas Champion…

Still miss the Women’s Championship? Still bitter Michelle won? Tell us what you think…

Impact Write-Up (September 15th, 2011): Beautiful Person vs Beautiful Person

45

Just four days removed from Winter‘s surprising Knockouts Championship victory and the entire Knockouts division (erm, well most of them) are getting the chance to challenge her next. One storyline spanning several weeks? I approve. But wait… there are still some plot-holes.

We kick off the Knockouts action with new VP of Knockouts Karen Jarrett arranging a meeting in her office between the girls, including the returning Madison Rayne, who seems to be taking on the role of Royal Ass-Kisser to the new VP/Queen of the Mountain.

Watch:

As the Knockouts huddle together in Karen’s cramped quarters (say that three times fast!), she informs Mickie James that she will not be getting a rematch for the Knockouts Championship. TNA’s acknowledgement/lack of acknowledgement for rematch clauses has been perplexing in the Winter/Mickie feud. And besides, if Mickie really did have a rematch clause and was refused her rematch, couldn’t she just lawyer up?

Anyhoo, Karen announces “Queen’s Qualifier Matches” which will determine the three women who will face Winter for the Knockouts Title at Bound for Glory next month. Madison, the one time Queen of the Knockouts, even concedes her crown to Karen. (But what about the sash?) It’ll be James vs Brooke Tessmacher, Madison vs Tara and tonight, Angelina Love vs Velvet Sky.

As Karen shoos the Knockouts from her office, Madison takes the opportunity to schmooze Karen some more. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m loving the interaction between Karen and Madison. She’s like the Ricardo to her Alberto.

With the matches made, it’s time to determine Winter’s first challenger for Bound for Glory — will it be her main squeeze Angelina Love or the woman she stole her from, Velvet Sky?

First out are Angie and Winter, who is looking mighty fierce in a corset and bolero cardigan with her hair in a little bun. Very goth chic.

Vel-Vel is out next and just as she’s doing her civic duty of letting the pigeons loose, she’s knocked off the apron by her former BFF! And with that, men every groan and the change turn the channel, but not us… we’re here for the match!

Angelina revels in the moment before jumping to the outside and adding insult to injury by hitting Velvet’s head off the side of the ring not once but twice, as the crowd tries to cheer on the underdog. Back in the ring, Angelina tries to go for a cover but Velvet kicks out. Love tries to wear her down with kicks and whips her against the ropes but gets a kick to the face by Velvet. Vel-Vel picks up momentum with a nice bulldog which sends Angelina flying out of the ring.

Following a commercial break we return to find Angelina now back in control, having just attempted to pin Vel-Vel. Angelina with elbow drops to the lower back before sending her into the corner. Angelina begins stomping on Velvet. Angelina takes a moment to bask in the glory of her work, but as she returns to the corner, Velvet has caught her breath and outsmarts Angelina with a quick sunset flip pin but doesn’t get the three count.

As the two Knockouts get to their feet, the five-time Knockouts Champion shows off her ring prowess with a quick clothesline taking down her former friend. Angelina then applies a sleeper hold as the crowd cheers on Velvet. Velvet then manages to break out of the hold and hits a jawbreaker on Love. Velvet runs the ropes, looking to capitalize on her momentum, only to be tripped up by Winter from the outside. Angelina quickly mounts Velvet with forearm shots keeping her down on the mat, and then chokes her over the middle rope using her knee. As the referee breaks up the hold, Angelina distracts him with an argument which allows Winter to interfere by choking Velvet some more. Pin attempt but only two.

A-Love applies a sleeper hold on Velvet, trying to tire her down, but Velvet fights back. Angelina then decides to go a more aggressive route, clubbing Vel-Vel across the back and then hits her with a hard knee.

Winter jumps up on the apron and Angelina attempts to whip Velvet in Winter’s direction for some sort of double team move but Velvet manages to reverse it. However, Angelina just about stops in her tracks to avoid collision with the Knockouts Champ. As Angelina turns around she walks into several clotheslines and a snapmare from Velvet followed by a low front dropkick. Velvet then hits an inverted side-slam as the crowd are cheering for the favorite.

As Velvet looks to put away her former BFF, Angelina hits her out of no where, taking her down. Love signals to Winter to hit Velvet with the Knockouts Title — right in the line of sight of the referee. Um… Okay. Velvet moves out of the way, and Winter ends up hitting Love. This allows Velvet to hit a DDT for the win.

Velvet is going to Bound for Glory!

Thoughts: Good match between Angelina and Velvet. Not sure how I feel about the finish, however. Okay, even though it didn’t go as planned, why would Winter and Angelina risk a belt shot in front of the referee? That would get Angelina disqualified if it connected. Little things like that make no sense to me.

As for Bound for Glory, not sure how I feel about this match. I like that TNA is doing something like these qualifier matches to get to that match, rather than just randomly picking three girls, but I still feel underwhelmed. I feel like Bound for Glory, like WrestleMania, should be an event where a big Knockouts feud culminates and two Knockouts battle for the belt. However, in reality, like WrestleMania, it seems like the match we’re getting at Bound for Glory isn’t a ‘must see’ match with a well built storyline behind it.

Also on Impact, Tara & Brooke Tessmacher teamed up with Devon and The Pope to take on Mexican America, consisting of Rosita and Sarita. Watch:

Devon and Hernandez start the match, but we’re not interested in that… Fast forward a little bit, and we have TNA’s own Tiny Spicy, Rosita, jumping in the ring with some choice words for Devon. The earrings are off and Rosita is muy pissed! Tara then jumps in the ring as well as the referee tries to restore order.

As the match continues, the referee is distracted by the team of T&T on the other side of the ring, and again Sarosita show off their Latin temperament — Rosita grabs The Pope by the hair and then they both get into the ring and begin stomping him in the corner.

Fast forward a little more and we have Sarosita, once again, trying to beat up on Devon and The Pope by going for double low-blows from behind but both male wrestlers catch them in the act. In come Tara & Tessmacher giving chase to the former Tag Team Champions.

The referee tries to restore order on the outside by getting Tara & Tessmacher back up on the apron, meanwhile Rosita & Sarita flirt with Devon’s sons at ringside creating a distraction for Hernandez & Anarquia.

Things begin to get back into order as all the Knockouts return to their corners. But those feisty cousins won’t stay on the apron for long! They jump up on Devon & The Pope’s backs and are slammed down to the mat. Tara & Tessmacher hit the ring with double spears on their former rivals, followed by haymakers.

Devon & Pope with a double clothesline out of the ring to Hernandez & Anarquia. That leaves the cousins defenseless as Tara hits Rosita with a sit-out spinebuster and Tessmacher hits a hurricanrana on Sarita. They go for a double-pin and score the victory.

Thoughts: I enjoy when WWE or TNA does mixed/intergender matches and you get to see that interaction between the guys and the girls. I loved the Sarita/Rosita interferences. They were a lot of fun. I would, however, have liked to see more Knockouts action in this match.

Diva Dirt Promoters Season: Behind the NCW Femmes Fatales Curtain with Stéphane Bruyere – FF VII on October 8th, LuFisto, Kalamity & More!

With several big independent events coming up in the next couple of months, Diva Dirt has reached out to the head honcos in charge of various promotions for our first annual Promoters Season. Over the next couple of weeks, you will hear from the creative minds behind NCW Femmes Fatales, Pro-Wrestling: EVE, SHIMMER Women Athletes, WILD Wrestling and Women Superstars Uncensored.

We aim to pick their brains about their upcoming events, their rosters and on current events. Plus, we look for answers to the questions that fans have wondered about…

While SHIMMER and WSU have proven to be successful formulas in the US, in Canada, NCW Femmes Fatales is the promotion that every girl strives to be part of. A sister promotion of Montreal’s NCW promotion, Femmes Fatales promotes its own shows and flies in talent from across the world to compete on Canadian soil.

The roster shares many talents with SHIMMER, including champion LuFisto and Cheerleader Melissa, as well as homegrown talent such as Cherry Bomb, Sweet Cherrie, Kalamity and others.

In October, Femmes Fatales presents its seventh live event — Femmes Fatales VII — with a card featuring LuFisto vs Kalamity for the championship, as well as the debuts of joshi stars Tomoka Nakagawa and Yumi Ohka.

Ahead of the big event, we talk to Femmes Fatales promoter Stéphane Bruyere…

Most fans know the history of SHIMMER or WSU, but perhaps don’t know the history of Femmes Fatales. How did the promotion come together and what is your history as a promoter?
Let’s start with my history as a promoter and it will finish with the history of Femmes Fatales. I have worked for several promotions in the province of Quebec since 2001, and I was only 17 years old when I started. I did work for probably some of the biggest promotions in the provinces, including the IWS, a promotion that fans around the world may have heard of. I started to book the ALF in 2008 when the booker left the promotion. Kim Leduc and LuFisto asked me if I wanted to help them, and I said yes, because it would be a great challenge and something totally different than I had ever done. The problem at the end of the ALF is that there were too many male wrestlers on the shows, major reason being we were running a show every month on Friday nights, and it was difficult to have everybody available. During a meeting in January of 2009, LuFisto and I decided that it was time to try something else and we offered the promotion to do a female show every three months and do a double taping the day of the show, a little like SHIMMER. After some problems with the people backing the ALF that did not want to try that, the promotion closed in February of 2009. I decided at that time that this was the end for me as I was starting my career in my everyday job at almost the same time. A month after the closure of the ALF, I received a phone call from LuFisto. She told me that she was approached by nCw and they wanted to open an all female wrestling promotion. They wanted her to help them run it, and she wanted me to book it. I sincerely asked her if she was kidding (and you can ask her, she will say it’s true!) as I told her a month before that I wanted to quit the business. After a couple of minutes, I told her to ask nCw to put the project on paper and I shall see if I wanted to help. A week after, I received an e-mail, read the whole thing twice and I said, “Okay, let’s do it.”

French-Canadian wrestling has a long storied history from the likes of Jacques Rougeau etc., but how has the reception been towards all-female wrestling cards?
Well, when the ALF started, I, myself, was not sure that a full time all-female promotion would work in the Montreal area since there was a limited amount of female wrestlers. The reception was good though and the ALF got their biggest crowd at their second anniversary show when Amazing Kong made her first trip to Montreal to face LuFisto. By the end of the ALF, I was not wrong and was not right since there was for sure not a big crop of female wrestlers, but an all-female promotion was possible, but not the way it was ran. In Quebec, female wrestling needs to be presented as a ‘happening’. If we run too often, it won’t work that well and it’s better to do less shows with more spectators, better wrestlers, bigger budget, so we don’t lose money with them.

One of your biggest collaborators is LuFisto, who is also one of the wrestlers. How would you describe the dynamic between yourself and LuFisto? Who handles what?
First, LuFisto has become one of my closest friend. I must be thankful for everything that has happened to put her on my road. We have really good communication and pretty much the same view on how Femmes Fatales should be run. In Femmes Fatales, we are a team and each of us has our role. LuFisto is in charge of the multimedia part, so pretty much all the videos you see, with some rare exceptions, has been done by her. She is also training the wrestlers. Yan O’Cain, nCw President, is in charge of the website and all the posters you see about us. He is the best in Quebec, by far. Anthony Tonin is helping me with the booking portion and he is my eyes during the show as I mostly stay backstage. And, on my part, I do all the texts about FF, contacting the wrestlers and staff, and of course, booking the show!

I guess a common misconception is that LuFisto books the shows with you… That’s not the case, right?
She is not booking with me no, but I don’t hesitate if I have any questions or doubts. Normally, I do the lineups and then we, LuFisto and I, have a meeting with Anthony to put the show on paper.

You’ve had six events already, with Femmes Fatales VII due to take place on October 8th. How would you critically evaluate the growth of Femmes Fatales over the past six shows?
I am really happy with where we are in the evolution right now and kudos to everybody that helped Femmes Fatales to grow that much in just two years. By watching the shows afterwards, from the first Femmes Fatales show to FF IV, which was the crowning of the first champion and the Kong/Anna match, the shows were always getting better. FF V, which was last March, was probably the best card on paper of all the shows we’ve done so far, but I had put the expectations so high on that show, maybe too high, and I was not 100% satisfied by the show we put on, although Hamada vs LuFisto is probably the best match from the promotion so far. Then, last show was one of my favorites with the rise of Kalamity to the main event level in a great street fight with her and Portia Perez against Cheerleader Melissa and Mercedes Martinez. Each show has been different so far and the evolution of the Quebec wrestlers has been a great ingredient to the success we have so far. There are so many people working on Femmes Fatales and it’s impossible to thank them enough for it.

Femmes Fatales VII will feature the main event of LuFisto vs Kalamity for the Femmes Fatales Championship. I would say Kalamity is a rising star in the world of women’s wrestling. How did Femmes Fatales management come to the decision to put her in the title match?
A couple of things made it an easy decision actually… I thought that it was time for us to put on an all-Quebec main event, which we’ve not done yet. Also, Kalamity and LuFisto have already done two single matches so far this year, and both of those matches are on the list of possible Match of Year contenders in the province. Since none of those matches are on our Femmes Fatales DVDs, I think that putting one as a main event of a Femmes Fatales show will prove what exactly Kalamity is capable to do and just confirm how much LuFisto is an amazing wrestler. So, we did that storyline where Kalamity won a first contender match in May, then she had her face turn in June. In July, LuFisto made her return to the ring after her operation and saved Kalamity from an attack. They will now tag on September 24th before their match October 8th. Don’t want to spoil anything though, so I’ll stop here!

Tiana Ringer is coming out of retirement for this show too and will face Mercedes Martinez. How did her return to wrestling come about?
Tiana came to see the show in March to see some friends, so we got the contact from there. LuFisto spoke with her at the start of the summer to get some news and asked her if a return could be possible… her answer was not no, but was not yes either. A couple of weeks went by, and then LuFisto told me to contact Tiana, and that is where we confirmed everything. For her return, I think Mercedes is a perfect match since they know each other quite well in the ring. We all hope this will be the first of lot of matches for Tiana!

There’ll also be some joshi talent making their debuts including Tomoka Nakagawa and Yumi Ohka. What are they going to bring to the table for Femmes Fatales?
Nakagawa and Ohka will bring diversity to the event. One of my views on a wrestling show is each match must be different, with different storylines and different styles. And, for sure, there is no Femmes Fatales regular that has the exact same style as those two great joshis. I’ve been watching joshis on DVD before they came to SHIMMER and I really wanted to bring them in Montreal. It was a question of timing. This time, only two were able to make it and I am really happy that our crowd will be able to witness their talents live. Also, it will give the opportunity for a girl like Sweet Cherrie to face for the first time a joshi, a chance she would not have had if it wasn’t for Femmes Fatales. I know she is working hard to be ready for the match that will include also Portia Perez.

Femmes Fatales mixes talent that a lot of people will know from other places (Melissa, Mercedes) with home grown talent such as Sweet Cherrie, Kalamity, Mary Lee Rose etc. How do you find the balance between home grown and imported talent? I’m sure you want to highlight your own local talent, right?
The general idea behind Femmes Fatales is to showcase our talents from the province of Quebec and from Ontario by putting them in the same backstage area as some of the best in the business like Melissa, Martinez, Allison Danger, Del Rey, etc. Just being backstage with them is helping our wrestlers to learn quicker. Also, LuFisto started to give them some clinics to help them improve. When we think a wrestler is ready, we try to find them the best match-up possible with an indy star to see exactly at what level they are. The wrestlers are aware that it’s not every show that they will have the opportunity to face a guest, so they must be ready when the time arrives. I’m not sure that Mary Lee Rose thought one day she would be in the same ring as Daffney like she did in June of last year. Cherry Bomb also showed her full potential in her great match against Sara Del Rey in our first show. Courtney Rush proved she is a star by going stroke-for-stroke with Madison Eagles at the last show. Anna Minoushka did an awesome job againt Kong. Those are only small examples. By facing those bigger names, our wrestlers are getting known and when I see their name on Diva Dirt or any other wrestling related website, it makes me proud of them. Everybody has stepped up since the start of the promotion, and that is a great accomplishment. Kudos to all the guests we have had as many thanks must be made to them, to LuFisto who keeps pushing them to the max, and to all those wrestlers who put so much efforts just to try to be better in the ring.

Of the local talent that some people reading this interview may not be familiar with — Kalamity, Cherrie, Mary Lee Rose, Mistress Belmont etc. — who should fans look up and find matches of, and why?
As far of wrestlers that are starting to be known on the indy circuit, Kalamity is proving show after show that she deserves to be in the main event position. She is really powerful, her technique is getting better and she has lots of charisma. When she did her match against LuFisto in JAPW last December, the crowd started the match by asking her who she was, and ended up giving her an ovation. Also, Mistress Belmont was so over the first time she was in Montreal that the fans turned her face! I think that match against Cherry Bomb was really entertaining. For sure, wrestlers you point out, Sweet Cherrie, Anna Minoushka and Mary Lee Rose, deserve the recognition, but I can’t pass over the young Sherbrooke Connexion. When they came with their new outfit as a tag team last March, they proved to us they wanted to succeed. Allison Danger gave me lots of positive reactions about them and I’m quite sure we will see them getting better and better in the next few months. Xandra Bale is also someone that has stepped up lately and she might be a big part of Femmes Fatales for the upcoming volumes.

You crowned the first Femmes Fatales Champion at Femmes Fatales IV, which was LuFisto. How do you respond to criticism from people that say she was awarded the belt because she’s one of the ‘bookers’? As we said, that’s a common misconception…
I think that people that said that were quickly answered by others about it. Whether LuFisto is a part of the administration of Femmes Fatales or not, all the real fans of women’s wrestling know there was no other person than LuFisto that could have been the champion that night. If it wasn’t of her, there would not be any Femmes Fatales shows, there would not be that amount of great female workers in Quebec and I would not be in the business. I don’t want to reduce the impact that the ALF had, but Femmes Fatales did finally open the eyes of our Quebec wrestlers, and this would not have been possible if it was not of LuFisto. And if I can add, when we told LuFisto our decision that she would be the first champion, she didn’t want to and we argued a lot during the months leading up to the show, but we needed to go that direction and we made her understand it. The decision was made by nCw administration and myself and the case is closed. I don’t want anybody to talk about it ever!

Britani Knight Returning to SHIMMER

8

The Knight Dynasty will be back in full swing this October as Britani Knight joins the previously announced Saraya Knight for the SHIMMER tapings on October 1st and 2nd.

Britani and her mother Saraya were incredibly over with the Berwyn crowds as heels in their debuts last April.

Full details below:

[notice]SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES is proud to announce the addition of BRITANI KNIGHT to its next set of DVD tapings, just 16 days away at the Berwyn Eagles Club!

Britani Knight and her mother Sweet Saraya made one of the most memorable first impressions out of anyone in SHIMMER history when they were introduced by former wrestler Rebecca Knox on Volume 37. The combination of Saraya’s pure evilness and the wacky antics of Britani and Rebecca resulted in The Knight Dynasty becoming one of the most talked about aspects of the Vols. 37-40 tapings, as well as one of the most vicious threats within the SHIMMER tag team division.

Many consider Britani to be a wrestling prodigy, having gotten her start at a very young age, and having come from a wrestling family. Unquestionably, Britani has a very bright future in the professional wrestling industry, and we are pleased to have her back in the SHIMMER ring once again on October 1st & 2nd! Don’t miss your chance to be there live.

SHIMMER returns to live action on Saturday & Sunday, October 1st & 2nd, 2011, at the Berwyn Eagles Club (6309 26th Street) in Berwyn, IL, just outside Chicago. Bell time on Saturday, October 1st is 2pm (doors at 1pm, SPARKLE pre-show matches at 1:30pm). Bell time on Sunday, October 2nd is 1pm (doors at noon, SPARKLE pre-show matches at 12:30pm). Volumes 41-44 of the SHIMMER DVD series will be filmed during the course of the weekend, with two full length DVD releases taped each day. The events are suitable for all ages.

Front row seating is already SOLD OUT for both days. General admission seating to the October 1st & 2nd tapings can be purchased at http://shimmerwrestling.blogspot.com/p/events.html using PayPal. General admission is $30 per full day of taping (essentially $15 per DVD worth of live matches). You can also purchase tickets by mail, using money order. For mail order instructions, E-mail [email protected].

Officially announced thus far for October 1st & 2nd: SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles, SHIMMER Tag Team Champions Daizee Haze & Tomoka Nakagawa, Sara Del Rey, Cheerleader Melissa, Serena Deeb, MsChif, Mercedes Martinez, Nikki Roxx, “Portuguese Princess” Ariel, Allison Danger, The Canadian Ninjas, Kellie Skater, Kana, Jessie McKay, Leva Bates, Athena, Hiroyo Matsumoto, Nevaeh, Yumi Ohka, Hailey Hatred (10/1 only), Ayako Hamada, Ayumi Kurihara, Christina Von Eerie, Saraya Knight, Mia Yim, and Britani Knight. Look for more talent to be announced during the coming weeks. Over 30 of the top female professional wrestlers from around the world will gather in Berwyn for Volumes 41-44!

Since seating at the Eagles Club is very limited, we do suggest securing your tickets in advance if you wish to attend. Less than 50 seats for each day remain available before we reach venue capacity.

After the shows both days, stomp on down to the Garv Inn Bar & Grill, located at 6546 W. Windsor Ave. in Berwyn, IL to party with the wrestlers and your fellow fans. It’s located less than a mile from the Berwyn Eagles Club, right by the train tracks.

In addition to the SHIMMER events that Saturday & Sunday, our friends at AAW will present a card at the Berwyn Eagles Club on that Friday evening, September 30th. A six woman tag team match featuring SHIMMER talent will be on the AAW event, as MsChif & Jessie McKay & Nevaeh will face Madison Eagles & Mena Libra & Sassy Stephie. Beth Phoenix Comments on Divas Championship Match in Her Hometown This Sunday

33

As has been well documented, this Sunday’s Night of Champions pay per view will be held in Beth Phoenix‘s hometown of Buffalo, NY.

She’ll have the chance to challenge Kelly Kelly to become the Divas Champion in front of her home crowd, a year and a half after she last appeared in front of them losing the Women’s Championship.

Speaking to Buffalowins.com, Beth reveals about her last match in Buffalo:

A lot of people may not remember, but the last time I was in Buffalo, I was Women’s Champion and I lost the title to Lay-Cool in a handicap match. It’s kind of bittersweet… this feels like it’s coming full circle. That was actually the last appearance of the Women’s Championship. It was the end of the road for the Championship, and it was also the end of the road for my last title reign so it was very sentimental. I actually went in for surgery after that match and I had wrestled that match with a torn ACL and my knee all taped up.

On returning this Sunday, Beth says:

To think that I have an opportunity to walk into Buffalo and possibly win the Diva’s Championship in front of that very same crowd and start a new chapter and begin a new legacy is not only exciting and cool but also very sentimental to me. It’s a very personal journey. It has been a long road to come back from that injury and get back in the ring and earn another title opportunity. To be able to do it in my hometown in front of my friends and family and the people that supported me back when I was nobody is really a dream come true. Win or lose, I know that is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime, career-changing night.

Thoughts: If Beth were able to win the Divas Championship in front of her hometown crowd, it would definitely be a Kodak moment. However, Beth being a heel, I wonder if WWE will go that route. We’ll see this Sunday.

Beth Phoenix Speaks on Whether She Got Along with Melina, More on Wanting to Feud with Kharma

29

Another Beth Phoenix interview, this time with Brian Fritz at Between the Ropes.

In this interview, Beth discusses in more detail about wanting to work with Kharma before she left earlier this year due to her pregnancy.

Beth says:

I was really disappointed that things turned out that way because I was probably the most excited out of everybody (of Kong joining the company) because not only does she have this mystique about her but I can remember for years when she was doing things elsewhere that was always the comparison. That was my far off, distant dream opponent I supposed because I got asked more than anything else ‘what are you going to do when you meet Kharma’. At the time, it wasn’t a possibility but then when she came in, I was so excited because I was like wow, this could actually come true. This could actually happen and I think it would be something epic for the divas that we haven’t had in a long time. Nobody was more disappointed than me. (Source)

Beth was also asked about Melina and whether the former WWE Diva had any personality clashes with the others.

Beth says:

I never had anything but respect for Melina. I’m not a super social person. I have my best friend in Natalya. That’s who I stick to and I don’t go out and party or anything like that or socialize a lot with the other divas. You know, I didn’t really get to know her personality maybe but speaking from my own personal experience, I respect her very much and what she did and she has a great passion for this business. And I know whatever the future holds for her she’ll do a great job with it. (Source)

Beth Phoenix Talks About Her Bond with Natalya, Wanting to Wrestle Kharma, Goldust Working with the Divas

10

#1 Contender for the Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix, was interviewed recently for Sirius XM’s Busted Open radio show.

In the interview, Beth discusses her bond with Natalya, wanting to wrestle Kharma and what it’s been like having Goldust work with the Divas. Beth also discusses CM Punk and Triple H’s feud.

Read the press release below:

[notice]Sirius XM’s Busted Open Interview: Beth Pheonix

Hosts: Doug Mortman and Mike Riker

Busted Open can be heard Monday, Wednesday and Friday on Sirius 94, XM 208.

Beth on working with Goldust: I have nothing but great things to say about Goldust, and really what he brings to us is the time that he spends working with us. He has such a wide variety of opinions and experience on the business, things that like, you know he’ll come to me with advice that I never really would have seen it that way you know. And he has a completely different perspective, and he has really, really put in so much effort and cares about the divas division and I have nothing but glowing things to say about him. If you see what you want to see and your liking what you are seeing, Goldust is a big part of that.

Beth on CM Punk vs. HHH: Well this match, you know, maybe has as much meaning for all of us on the roster as it does for the WWE Universe. Because if HHH loses, he is no longer the COO of the company. And on the other hand, CM Punk has kind of been the one guy to stand up and step up for all of us who have felt pushed aside or underappreciated, so it really is kind of a conflict of heart. Because I like what HHH has been doing as the COO, he has really you know made some changes in the company that have affected us in a positive way. So um, you know, I understand Punk’s gripes, but at the same time me as a talent, I really like what HHH has done so it’s really a toss up. I think it could go either way, and it’s really going be the match I want to see the most.

Beth on her relationship with Natalya: Myself and Natalya have been longtime best friends in the wrestling business, you know we respect each other and we have very similar stories. I grew up really, you know, idolizing her family so we have a lot of, um, our mission is really what we have in common aside from other things, but you know we are our own thing. It’s unfortunate what happened with Karma because I would have loved to have her as an opponent at some day, at some point, but right now like I said it’s just all about me and Natty and that’s all we are really worried about.

Beth on CM Punk giving buzz to the wrestling world: I think there’s like a feeling of kind of like an anti-establishment growing, you know like a revolution. I think there’s like, there’s a feeling that, you know, that we got back when Stone Cold was standing up to Vince McMahon. I would make comparisons back to that because, you know, CM Punk has basically stepped outside the box and stopped being a nice guy and said what’s on everyone’s mind. But rather than being villainized for it, we all kind of support him on that and saying like wow, thank you, thank you for being the one to stand up and say something. So, there are a lot of us that, certainly over the summer it was probably the hottest topic in wrestling in years, and um I feel like going forward this match is going to be a determining factor in where the company goes as a whole.[/notice]

Busted Open airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on Sirius 94 and XM 208.

Tommy Dreamer Says Divas Need More Airtime, Praises Knockouts Division

22

Former ECW, WWE and TNA star Tommy Dreamer was the special guest on last week’s episode of 3 Way with Fire & Ice, the new Internet radio show from Amber O’Neal and Angel Orsini.

When asked about his thoughts on the current women’s wrestling in WWE & TNA, Dreamer said:

My personal take on women’s wrestling is that today, in the WWE, the women need more airtime and storylines. There are some very amazing and talented women in the WWE. In TNA, they get a lot of airtime. I believe they’re still the highest rated people on the show, which is pretty awesome for the girls. Some of the stories are a little kooky, but they’re still doing a decent job building up the women in TNA.

Listen to the show here.

Thoughts: I agree with his thoughts on WWE. As for TNA, while the women do get more time, I think they try to do too much and have a lot going on and this doesn’t necessarily help storylines and feuds. If they could really focus in on storytelling for one feud as in the days of Kim vs Kong, I think they’d be better off.

So, what we want to hear from you is your suggestions on what you might like to see in the VIP section.

Your subscriptions will be used to support Diva Dirt’s growth and put back into the site.

We also understand that memberships can be costly, however we are working on low-cost price-points to make our VIP section affordable to all.

Our goal for the VIP section is to allow members perks such as discounts on products, exclusive new audio, first look at interviews, video diaries/blogs from female wrestling talent, live chats with talent, members-only competitions and give you the opportunity to have even more interaction by being able to write your own blogs/articles and have a members-only discussion forum.

26

Spoilers for the September 29th episode of Impact Wrestling. Watch it Thursdays at 9pm on Spike TV:

Spoiler
* Jeff and Karen Jarrett come to the ring and they call out Frankie Kazarian and Traci Brooks and they come to the ring. Jarrett introduced himself to Kazarian and said that he handpicked Kazarian off of the independent circuit. Jarrett says that he called Kazarian out for jumping ship to “the other company” and when he got released over not getting the spotlight, Jarrett says that he rehired Kazarian because Kazarian begged for it. Jeff called Traci a skank and said that after what he did for Traci, Traci disrespected Karen. Jeff says they are both ungrateful bastards. TNA referees come out to separate Jeff, Karen, Frankie, and Traci. Jarrett said that he is going to make their lives miserable starting tonight.

Jeff tells Kazarian to take that Tennessee whore, but Kazarian stops Jarrett with a punch. TNA Security and the agents try to separate the four, but Gunner shows up and lays Kazarian out with an F5. TNA Security get Jeff, Karen, and Gunner out of the ring while they tend to Kazarian.

* Madison Rayne defeats Tara with a roll up and extra leverage with her feet on the ropes in a “Queen’s Qualifying Match” to face Winter, Velvet Sky, and Mickie James for the Knockouts Title at Bound For Glory. Throughout the match, Madison was flirting with referee Earl Hebner to try to get her way in the match. It appeared to work because Earl stopped Tara from using closed fists during the match. Madison accidentally hit Earl and Earl then let Tara have her way, but Madison was still able to get the win. (Source)

NXT Watch: Photoshop.. It’s More Than Good, It’s Grrrreat!

65

It’s another Tuesday (okay really Wednesday) which means we have just witnessed a jaw dropping episode of NXT. On tonight’s show, the storyline between AJ and Maxine heats up with not only a rematch, but a backstage segment to discover the whereabouts of Hornswoggle. The couples took a break from each other this week, so let’s see how the ladies do when they don’t have their soulmates behind them.

We return from a commercial break to find the plaid loving AJ on her cell phone. She seems to be questioning why Hornswoggle has not returned any of her messages, or answered his phone as of late. As she hangs up, Maxine enters into the Frey. AJ questions where he is, to which Maxine believes she means Derrick, and informs her that he’s in the back soaking his feet after his tag match with Tyson Kidd against Titus O’Neil & Percy Watson earlier in the night. AJ stops her and demands to know what she has done to Hornswoggle.

Maxine breaks the news to AJ that Hornswoggle took off with the Bella Twins to Palm Springs for the week! Her reasoning behind this allegation? He got sick of little girls, and preferred real women. AJ doesn’t believe Maxine, which sparks the seductive she-devil to show AJ a photo of the leprachaun with the Bellas that she caught on her camera phone. AJ still doesn’t believe her, and as she walks off, Maxine drops the bombshell that Photoshop is greeeeat (read that in your Frosted Flakes/Tony the Tiger voice).

“If you want it, come and get it” blasts over the sound system, as the room turns bright green…which can only mean it’s time for Maxine! Once she makes her way to the ring, the bell sounds and the two divas lock up. Maxine shoves AJ off, and as the two get together again, she backs AJ into the corner and begins choking her, screaming “Where’s your boyfriend now, huh?!” She lets go at a count of three and charges forward. AJ catches her with a shove backwards, which for some reason amuses me greatly…

Maxine lands on her knees, allowing the Pocket Rocket to run forward with a front dropkick! Maxine scurries to the corner to fend off her nemesis, but AJ jumps up and hits a nice monkey flip for a two count. She Irish whips Maxine into the ropes, but Maxine reverses it and drops AJ with a atomic drop, followed by simply tossing her around by the hair. She slams AJ face first into the canvas and applies a brutal looking submission move, sparking a “Lets go AJ” chant to break out.

Maxine throws AJ into the second rope and begins to choke her with her leg. She continues to take control, heading back to the leg submission, which looks to brutally bend AJ in half. Maxine locks in a choke hold, asking AJ if this is what she wants. Knees to the back, followed by re-applying the choke. “Where’s your boyfriend at, huh?” AJ gets to a vertical base and tries to fight Maxine off, but the lady in red throws AJ back for a two count.

She whips AJ into the ropes and delivers a sick boot to the jaw for another close call victory. Maxine begins choking AJ in the corner with her foot, before dropping her with a neckbreaker. She begins to grow furious with AJ’s never say die attitude, just relentlessly pounding her in the chest, and choking her with submissions. Maxine picks AJ up and tosses her to the corner once more. After charging forward, she throws AJ into the opposing turnbuckle. Maxine charges once again, but she is met with both of AJ’s boots to her face.

AJ ascends to the second rope, and leaps off with a beautiful reverse crossbody to garner a two count! AJ begins to gain control of the match, with a running clothesline, followed by an awesome looking roundhouse kick to the head. AJ takes Maxine down to a knee, and looks to go for her shining wizard, but Maxine gets back up to a vertical base and attempts a clothesline. AJ manages to duck, but Maxine lifts her onto her shoulders and drops AJ throat first onto the ropes. From there, she lifts AJ up into a double underhook position, and drops her in a move that I can’t explain, as I simply watch in awe and how sick and great it truly was. For the purposes of my own enjoyment, I will refer to this maneuver from now on (until an actual name is revealed) as “Maximum Destruction”.

One…

Two…

THREE!

Maxine scores the victory in this one on one contest! As she celebrates in the ring, Titus O’Neil runs out to check on AJ. Maxine makes her way up the entrance ramp smirking, as this match comes to a close.

Thoughts: Where to start? Much like last week, I loved the backstage segment. People may be upset that Maxine and AJ are on NXT, but look at all they get to do. I think the length of their backstage segment alone was the span of 10 Raw Diva Matches. It’s really enjoyable to watch them actually getting time, and a storyline. I don’t know if this will lead to the Bella Twins coming to NXT, but I thought it was a great touch to have Maxine show AJ a photo, and then reveal it to be photoshopped together (I’m assuming she used a photo of when Hornswoggle & The Bellas were on screen together at Wrestlemania 27 and photoshopped the background to a beach scene).

Onto the match, another enjoyable contest. I loved how they had AJ get beat down for the most part because it really helps people to believe Maxine to be this controlling heel in the sense that she controls her matches (and her men). AJ is probably the best seller in the division in my opinion, but she still gets to show some cool moves so it works. Maxine’s finisher is probably my new favorite in WWE, and I don’t know where she came up with it, but props to her for doing something completely different and not reverting to the facebuster that’s been handed down from generation to generation…All in all, I love NXT, and I hope it just turns into a brand honestly. I’d like to see Kaitlyn and maybe debut Naomi as a heel, or bring Aksana even, to mix the matches up a little.

Rima Fakih: “WWE Doesn’t Seem Interested in Me”

47

Former Miss USA Rima Fakih, who was a contestant on USA Network’s Tough Enough earlier this year, has stated that she thinks WWE isn’t interested in signing.

The 25-year-old bombshell, responding to a fan comment for her to join WWE, wrote: “WWE doesn’t seem interested in me maybe @TNA or mud wrestling might be LOL.”

Thoughts: I find it hard to believe WWE wouldn’t be interested in Rima — she has exactly the look they want. I wonder, though, if she can make the commitment they need to make WWE her full time career, considering she’s involved in many projects. I loved Rima on Tough Enough, and I would be happy to see her in WWE. Perhaps she should take up some training on her own and show them she’s committed.

FCW Watch: Aksana vs. Audrey Marie (Non-Title)

After a lengthy break from Diva action in FCW, we are back this week as on September 11th we were presented a non-title match between current Queen & Divas Champion, Aksana (complete with new music which brings back fond memories of TV Show, The Mole) and relative newcomer, Audrey Marie. Can Audrey score the upset? Or will Aksana continue to plow over the division as she cements her status as the best of the best?

Check it out below!

Out first comes Audrey Marie, decked out in cotton candy-type gear (thanks Eric). She slaps a few hands on her way to the ring, as she awaits the competition. New espionage type music hits, as Aksana steps onto the entrance way with her darker look. After some fine announcing by Cameron Lynn (Ariane Andrew), the bell sounds and things get underway. The two lock up, as Audrey takes the champion over with a side headlock takedown. Aksana reverses it into a roll up, but just for a near fall before Audrey takes control again.

They both get to a vertical base, as Audrey is Irish Whipped into the ropes. She runs back and manages to smartly reverse it, tossing Aksana into the opposing side. She takes Aksana down with a hip toss for a two count. From there, Audrey takes control of the match again with another side headlock takedown, only Aksana counters into a leg lock that Marie manages to break. Audrey applies a front face lock, but Aksana simply lifts her into the air (that bodybuilding past coming to good use, eh?) and backs her into the corner.

She pounds Audrey’s head into the turnbuckle and proceeds to level her back with a few vicious kicks. Aksana tosses her down to the mat and covers for a near fall, before grabbing Audrey into an abdominal stretch. The champion shows her ring smarts by grabbing onto the ropes to add pressure behind the referee’s back, before breaking the hold. Aksana chokes Audrey on the ropes using her leg, but then throws her back and scores another close call.

Aksana irish whips Audrey into the corner, but she manages to elbow the champion in the face as she charges forward. Marie lifts her legs up and places them around Aksana’s head, then proceeding to kick her using the back of her calf. Audrey then ascends to the second rope and leaps off with a nice spinning heel kick for a two count. She goes for a face lock, but Aksana counters into a small package for barely even a one count before Audrey kicks out.

Aksana goes towards the ropes, but Audrey applies a reverse headlock, and looks to go for her finishing maneuver, which she calls “The Round-Up”, only Aksana manages to dodge out of way and she crashes down to the mat in pain. Hook of the legs by the Champion for a one count, before picking Audrey up and taking control. She goes to send Marie into the ropes, but Audrey reverses it. Aksana slides under the legs and drills Audrey with the Devo Drop Spinebuster to officially gain the pinfall and victory!

After the match, Aksana picks Audrey up and sends her flying outside the ring. She blasts her back first into the ring apron, before throwing her down into the steel barricade! Aksana then lifts Audrey up and throws her into the steel steps, as Aksana poses over her and declares that this is NOT FINISHED. A devilish Aksana then makes her way to the back, as the segment comes to an end.

Right before his match with Leo Kruger, Bo Rotundo is seen backstage about to make his entrance to the arena. He is soon stopped by Aksana, as she confronts him in near tears. She manages to blurt out “It’s your brother!” although Bo, now seeming to have a new attitude as well since aligning with Aksana, simply ignores her and goes to compete in his match rather than seeing what was wrong with his brother, Husky Harris. As he heads out, the camera pans into our Champion, who reveals that her tears were fake, as she smirks to the camera to show her approval of this new version of Bo Rotundo.

Thoughts: When I saw this match on paper, I was a little worried to review it. Audrey is still really new, and I wasnt sure if Aksana was to the level to control it, but the match was actually not bad to me. There was a little bit of a confusion spot after the spin kick, but they recovered and got to the finish. Audrey looked better in this match than her past two showings, and I’m excited to see how the next match in this series will be. The aftermath was also really cool as they seem to be portraying Aksana’s new attitude as deadly, instead of comical like in the past.
