WSU Weekend Results: Mercedes Martinez Makes 31st World Title Defense

WSU World Champion, Mercedes Martinez made her 31st title defense over the weekend, beating WSU Tag Team Champions Jana and Cindy Rogers in a triple threat match. Get all the news below:

Mercedes Martinez Defends WSU World Championship For the 31st Time

What more can we here at Women Superstars Uncensored (WSU) say about Mercedes Martinez? Mercedes Martinez, the greatest womens wrestler today, defended the WSU World Championship for a record 31st time this past Saturday night. Mercedes Martinez has made more defenses of her WSU World Title than any other woman champion today. Martinez is the longest reigning champion in womens wrestling right now and without a shadow of a doubt has made the WSU World Title the most prestigious championship in all of womens wrestling today.

At ACE Pro Wrestling, on 10/16, Martinez defended her world title against the WSU Tag Team Champions, Jana & Cindy Rogers, in a triple threat match. The match started off as one would expect, as Jana & Rogers took turns beating down the fighting champion. However, Martinez would fight back and eventually neutralize her opponent’s advantage.

Despite working together as a unit, Jana & Rogers seemed to make several mistakes. Martinez was able to capitalize. While Rogers had Martinez up for a fireman’s carry, Rogers went to spin with Martinez to get more power, but accidentally bumped into Jana. Jana went flying. The small mistake was costly for Rogers, as Martinez took advantage of Rogers confusion and rolled her up for the 1-2-3.

For Rogers & Jana, frustration set in. Both women have had shots at the WSU World Championship in the past, but neither have been able to win that prestigious championship. Again, Martinez proved why she is the best in the world.

After the match, Rogers & Jana, the WSU Tag Team Champions, representing the Cosmo Club, viciously attacked Martinez from the back. The attack would be short-lived, as the #1 contenders to the WSU Tag Team Championships, Tina San Antonio & Marti Belle, collectively known as The Belle Saints, ran in to help Martinez.

The Saints chased the WSU Tag Team Champions out of the ring, the very tag team champions the Saints will be facing on 11/6 when WSU debuts on iPPV.

Mercedes Martinez thanked the Saints for their help and gave the Saints her endorsement, calling the current WSU Tag Team Champions, “Paper Champs”.

Diva Dirt’s Shanti Meets Natalya, Report from Last Night’s Raw House Show

Diva Dirt‘s Shanti met Raw Diva Natalya yesterday in Kennewick, Washington and later saw her in action at the Raw brand house show that evening. Check out her report below:

Me and my brother went to the gym like around 10:30 in the morning to play some basketball to pass time before the house show yesterday. After playing for a while, we ate some lunch and went back to the gym. About 30 minutes after that I glanced out the window and saw a short blonde woman with pink streaks standing next to a really tall, built guy. I told my bro to look at outside. He did and said, “That’s The Hart Dynasty.”

My brother was starting to get excited and called his friend, but I just stayed calm and kept on playing basketball. My brother went outside to meet his friend while I kept playing. I saw DH Smith looking through the window a couple of times along with one of the Usos. After a about an hour, my arm was starting to hurt pretty bad so I went outside where my brother was. After about 15 minutes of chilling with my brother and his friend’s two kids we met The Hart Dynasty. I waited until the kids went up to them first to get autographs before walking up. I handed Nattie my paper and she asked if I was going to the show tonight. I told her that I was and mentioned I was a writer for Diva Dirt. She said “Awesome!” and then said “Aren’t you Shanti? The one with the sign?” I said yes and she said that she’s very excited to see it and how nice it was that I made a sign for her. She also remembered me from two events before where I made a sign for her. After few minutes of chatting, she said she’ll see me later and that she wanted to take a picture with the sign or at least sign it.

Pro-Wrestling: EVE returns tonight in Sudbury, Suffolk, UK with another DVD taping. Diva Dirt’s Women of Wrestling Podcast co-host Stew Allen is on hand and will be sending us live results.

Stew Allen reporting…

We’re in and ringside. Set up has been upgraded. Lighting rig, entrance way, double screens, custom ring skirt & turnbuckle pads. Looks good.

1. Britani Knight def. Shanna with a variation on Sara Del Rey’s Royal Butterfly for the pin. Tremendous opening match.

2. Jenny Sjodin & April Davids vs Amazon & Destiny went to a wild double DQ in about a minute. Just a brawl. Referee Chris Roberts threw it out and they needed over half a dozen guys to pull everybody apart.

3. Alpha Female def. Janey B (subbing for the absent Melanie Price). Fellow Glamour Gym members Carmel Jacob & Sara-Marie Taylor beat up the fallen Janey post match.

4. The Glamour Gym (Sara-Marie Taylor & Carmel Jacob) def. Team Storm (Becky James & Rhia O’Reilly) when Sara used a leg-hook DDT on Becky. Good tag match with Rhia taking a prolonged beating at the hands of the newly serious Glamour Gym.

Dann Read has made a reference to “three pull-outs,” which I can exclusively reveal are Jemma Palmer, Lisa Fury & Erin Angel, all for various reasons.

Results & Pictures from RCW (October 2nd, 2010): Alissa Flash vs Mercedes Martinez Rematch

The world’s #3 and #4 ranked female wrestlers (courtesy of the PWI Female 50) faced off once again this past Saturday night at River City Wrestling in San Antonio, TX. RCW Heavyweight Champion, Alissa Flash (Cheerleader Melissa, ranked #4 on PWI Female 50 2010) and Mercedes Martinez (#3) headlined the event in a rematch to their bout last month. Diva Dirt reader, Brandon, sent in the following:

Coming off a big match last month, current RCW Champion Alissa Flash put the gold on the line once again against Mercedes Martinez, this time with no interference from Joey Spector (Mercedes’ boyfriend), the Texas Hitmen, and the Karate Kids.

The match, like last month, did not disappoint. The first third of the match had great exchange of holds from both Martinez and Flash, the striking game picked up in the second third of the match with Martinez’s strong-style chop to Flash exchange of strikes. One of my favorite moments was when Flash was attempting the Curb Stomp, Mercedes countered into a Curb Stomp of her own! The matched ended when both girls try to hit their finishers, up until Alissa Flash hits the Air Raid Crash on Mercedes for the win, thus retaining the RCW Championship. After the match, Flash wanted to extends the hand to Martinez, when Joey Spector shows up and tries to talk Merceds into not doing it and just walk away. Did Mercedes buy that? HELL TO THE NAW! Mercedes and Alissa exchange strikes to Spector and kick his hairy behind to the curb. Spector then said to Martinez, “It’s over!” Like Mercedes really cared for him, because early in the show, Spector kicked the Hitmen to the curb when they lost their match. The night end with Flash and Martinez raising arms and were acknowledged as PWI’s #3 and #4!

Fan Report, Pictures & Video from Friday’s Northeast Wrestling Show with Becky Bayless, Mia Yim & Mickie James

Diva Dirt reader, Eddie, sent in the following report & pictures from his experience meeting Becky Bayless, Mia Yim and Mickie James at Friday’s Northeast Wrestling show in Waterbury, CT. This was the show that Awesome Kong was advertised to be part of, however she was replaced by Mia Yim at the last minute.

Eddie writes:

A lot of people were bummed that Kong wasn’t there (myself included), but Mickie vs Mia was a really good match and it went over 10 minutes. Really refreshing since we don’t get to see that on TV anymore. Mia did great. She’s going to be a star, and now that I’ve seen her in person, I can say that TNA totally missed the boat by not signing her. Mickie was WAY over and even cuter in person than on TV, which I’ve found is not always the case with some of the other Divas/Knockouts.

I talked with Becky Bayless (Cookie) for a few minutes after the show — very funny and personable lady.

Mia was probably the friendliest person at the whole show (her and Bryan Danielson), which was a little weird, since she played the heel in her match. At the end of the night, she was talking to everyone, taking pictures and signing autographs for free. If Diva Dirt readers ever have a chance to meet her, don’t miss out. She’s great.

Overall, awesome night. This was the best independent show I’ve ever been to. I got to meet Bryan Danielson, Mickie James, Tommy Dreamer, Carlito, Mia Yim, Becky Bayless. And I can’t believe I got to see Bryan Danielson’s last independent match live! Everyone check out Northeast Wrestling!

Results from Kong vs Martinez at EVOLVE 5 + Video Interview with Martinez

SHIMMER isn’t the only promotion in action this weekend, as WSU presented a blockbuster title match-up between Awesome Kong and Mercedes Martinez at EVOLVE 5 in Rahway, New Jersey. Results below courtesy of WSU:

September 2010 has been a great month so far for WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez. Martinez, the greatest women’s wrestler in the world today, continued to show why she’s one of the best last night at EVOLVE, in a match part of WSU’s “On The Road” DVD series. Several days before this match took place, Martinez was ranked #3 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s “Top 50 Females of Wrestling”. This has always been a list compiled mostly of WWE & TNA women. Mercedes Martinez broke another barrier in women’s wrestling, and was the highest ranked independent wrestler on the list. While WSU fans understand that WWE & TNA women can not be ignored, many fans are saying that Martinez should have been number 1. However, fans will be happy to know that Martinez has dominated PWI’s weekly & monthly rankings at the number 1 spot, and is currently ranked number 1 in the world by PWI magazine.

Being the best women’s wrestler in the world and defending the biggest prize in womens wrestling today has been no easy feat for Martinez. In over an 18 month title reign, Martinez has had to turn back the challenges of the likes of Mickie James, Angel Orsini, Portia Perez, Hailey Hatred, Rain, Alicia, Angelina Love, Nikki Roxx, Brittney Savage, Melissa Coates, Amber O’Neal, Bombshell Bo & countless others. Martinez is the biggest target in womens wrestling today because she holds the most prestigious championship in all of womens wrestling today – the WSU World Championship, the most defended women’s championship in the United States today. It is easy to have long title reigns when champions are inactive, but in 18 months, Martinez has defended the World Championship a record 30 times, averaging almost 2 title matches a month during this span!

As part of WSU’s working relationship with Dragongate USA, Mercedes Martinez joined EVOLVE wrestling and quickly compiled a 4-0 record, defeating Niya, Sumie Sakai, Brittney Savage & Tina San Antonio. However, after each match, Martinez kept asking for more competition. She begged for the best. On 9/11/10, she got it, in the form of “Awesome” Amazing Kong. If Martinez was to defeat Kong, Martinez would’ve successfully defended the championship for the 30th time.

Results & Pictures from RCW Last Night (Alissa Flash vs Mercedes Martinez)

Diva Dirt reader, Brandon, sent in the following report and pictures from last night’s RCW event in San Antonio, which was headlined by Alissa Flash vs Mercedes Martinez for the RCW Championship:

Last night’s RCW show was amazingly good. It had everything you want out of professional wrestling – straight-up pure wrestling and enjoyable segments. All the action was great, but the one thing that stood out to me more about last night’s event was the main reason I went to the show in the first place – Alissa Flash (AKA Cheerleader Melissa) vs. Mercedes Martinez!

When I found out that Mercedes is coming to RCW in my hometown, I was marking out! Like that got me sold to actually going to this event. I felt disappointed not going when Alissa Flash became RCW Champion, the first female to win the company’s top prize, showing that Alissa ain’t one to play around with, female or not. She is, pound for pound, one of the greatest women wrestlers in, not just the US, but in the world. The same can be said for Mercedes Martinez, another pound for pound athlete, and one of the women that put SHIMMER on the map with her fued with Sara Del Rey, along with Melissa’s fued with Mschif. And with these two in the same ring together, mono-on-mono, I know will expect some great stuff between the two. Now, enough praising the two, and let’s get to the action.

Weekend House Show Results: Melina Returns, Bellas on SmackDown

Weekend house show results from this past weekend, including the road return of Melina, below:

Friday, August 27th, 2010
Raw
Gail Kim, Nikki Bella & Brie Bella def. Maryse, Jillian Hall & Rosa Mendes.
The girls were allowed to wear much more revealing bathing suits than they did on Raw a few weeks back. No offense to the ladies, but it was a fairly typical Divas match. I will say this, I had a blast watching this match because it seemed like all six ladies were having fun – even the heels. (Source: TheSteelCage.net)

Saturday, August 28th, 2010
Raw
Melina def. Alicia Fox to retain the Divas Championship.
It was a decent women’s match that went about 10 minutes. (Source: ProWrestling.net)

Report, Pictures & Video from FCW in Fort Myers (August 27th, 2010)

Big FCW post for you… we’ve got a fan report, pictures and video footage from Friday’s FCW live event in Fort Myers. Diva Dirt reader Bobby Lea Burchill sent us the following:

Before the show, I got to meet Christina Crawford, Isis the Amazon and Ricki Vaughn (formerly known as Celeste). All three were very nice and friendly, Christina especially. As reported earlier, Isis asked if it was alright before she took pics with fans, but she was nice about it. Ricki looks really good, and she shared the ring announcing duties for the night, not doing a bad job at all. Christina looks almost identical to Alicia, just with a darker color to her hair.

Onto the show, the Divas match was the third match of the show, and it was announced as a tag match. When Ricki introduced the team of Naomi Night & Aksana, I thought they were gonna run around the ring and slap hands, etc… but they came out in full on heel mode. They scowled at fans, refused to slap hands, and posed as they walked around the ring. Not only that, but Night ditched her braids and had purple bangs. And then out came Liviana and AJ Lee, to new music (no more Trinity theme), who were faces. This had me wondering if they really are being groomed for NXT, because AJ has been changed back to a face for the show, and more boldly, Naomi didn’t have her braids, but changed it to a normal hairstyle for Divas.
