Jim Ross Comments on Possibility of a Divas TV Show

35

WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross, commented on the possibility of a WWE Divas television show on his official website.

JR, who returned to Raw recently, wrote:

Possibility of a Diva’s TV show….wow…stranger things have occurred but it seems as if the Diva division is somewhat of an after thought, unfortunately, these days but I’d never say never on that idea. If it combined some in ring content with away from the ring material it might make for an interesting reality type TV show. The more I think about it the more I like the general concept.

Just this past week, Vince McMahon announced during an investors’ conference call that the company is looking to add an hour of programming on Monday nights before Raw.

Thoughts: A Divas TV show will likely always remain a distant dream, but it would certainly draw the same amount of eyeballs, if not more than, NXT or WWE Superstars. Honestly, I’d settle for WWE producing Divas-only specials a few times a year similar to how they had Saturday Night’s Main Event two-three times a year. It could even just go on WWE.com, but that’d be a nice platform for the girls where you could build up matches on Raw and SmackDown and have them blow off on the special show with a Divas Title match as main event.

Former WWE Star Debra: “Today’s Divas Seem So Alike”

24

Former WWE Women’s Champion, Debra, has revealed that she thinks today’s Divas “all seem so alike.”

Diva Dirt reader, Alexis Wilson, met Debra at the NWA Legends Fanfest in Atlanta yesterday where she asked the former Mrs Stone Cold a few questions.

On the current crop of Divas, Debra told the fan: “I think the Divas should branch out, they all seem so alike.”

Alexis, who points out that Debra was ‘very sweet’ when meeting her, also asked Debra about the releases of Gail Kim and Melina. Debra told her: “I’ve been here [at the Legends Fanfest] so I hadn’t been on the Internet, but I think Gail will go to TNA.”

Thanks to Alexis for sending that in.

Rewind: Mickie James vs Katie Lea (Winter) at Night of Champions 2008

It was the summer of 2008. Mickie James was WWE Women’s Champion and Katie Lea — now Winter — was the feisty newcomer to the Divas division.

Three years on, they’re both in TNA and set to do battle tonight at the Hardcore Justice pay per view, but here is their first PPV encounter from Night of Champions 2008.

News in Brief: Haze Taking ‘Indefinite Hiatus’?, Kelly Beats Beth, Social Chopped Raw, New OVW Women’s Champion

19

You bring the coffee, we’ll bring the news! This is Diva Dirt’s news in brief, giving you the 411 on some of the little news items from the past couple of days. Let’s delve in, shall we?

* Hardcore Country is coming to Hardcore Justice! Tonight, Mickie James defends the Knockouts Championship against Winter on pay per view.

Also on the card, the Knockouts Tag Team Championship will be defended as Tara and Tessmacher face Sarita and Rosita in a rematch.

Vote in our polls below with your predictions:

* What’s going on with Daizee Haze? CHIKARA has announced that Daizee is supposedly taking an ‘indefinite hiatus’ from wrestling to ‘focus on her health and recovery’. Could they mean she’s just taking time off from the company storyline-wise following Claudio Castagnoli’s chokeslam on her last weekend at Chikarasaurus Rex? Or is Daizee legitimately taking some time off?

The official CHIKARA message board posted the following:

Any discussion of Daizee Haze’s well-being should, first and foremost, reference the fact that she was not only struck over the head last Sunday with a chair after a hard match, but then after the main event, was manhandled by Claudio Castagnoli with perhaps the most brutal chokeslam of all time.

We’re disturbed to learn that Daizee Haze will be taking an indefinite hiatus to focus on her health and recovery, and we expect to have comments from her partner, Sara Del Rey, to publish this coming week on our website.

I’m sure all members of the CHIKARMY join us in wishing Daizee a full recovery and return to complete health.

If Daizee is legit taking time off, our best wishes go out to her.

* Kelly Kelly has been beating Beth Phoenix in Divas Championship matches at live events this weekend.

* Correction from Steven’s WSU results last night. The November 19th event will be headlined by a six-woman tag team match: Midwest Militia (Jessicka Havok, Allysin Kay and Sassy Stephie) vs Mercedes Martinez, Brittney Savage and Alicia. The individual matches that Steven reported will happen in March 2012 at the five year anniversary show. That event will be headlined by Martinez vs J-Hav.

Full coverage of the WSU show here.

* Annie Social returned to WSU last night in Union City, NJ, and her welcome back gift? Serena making her chest look like mince meat. The Deebious One chopped Social red-raw in their highly-praised match. WSU posted a picture of Social’s chest, which can be seen here. Probably not a good idea to look if you’ve just had breakfast or lunch.

* Leva Bates and Mia Svensson battled last night for Ring Wars Carolina to a time limit draw. Leva wrote on Twitter: “Correction: @TrueMiaSvensson did NOT beat me this evening. It was a time limit draw! So yes I did not beat you, but you did not beat me!”

* In case you missed Maryse on Raw and NXT this week, never fear – she’s got you covered with these sexy snaps posted on her official website. Ooh, oui!

* Trip to Japan, anyone? Don’t mind if we do… Ice Ribbon star, Makoto, who just represented the company a week ago in the US for CHIKARA, competed in her last match for Ice Ribbon today.

Makoto announced earlier this week that she’s leaving Ice Ribbon to defect to Tajiri’s SMASH promotion. Her final match today saw her lose to ICEx60 Champion, Tsukasa Fujimoto. Ice Ribbon tweeted: “A crowd of 100 saw @tsukka0730 defeat SMASH-bound Makoto in 12:32 to keep the ICEx60 championship.”

* Speaking of Japan, Diva Dirt contributor Mia Yim found herself in the ring with the legendary Manami Toyota once again today in tag team action. Yim teamed with La Comandante to take on Toyota and Senri Kuroki at the REINA show. On the same card, Luscious Latasha of WSU fame faced Hiroyo Matsumoto.

We hope to have results soon.

* The former Mickie Knuckles (Moose in TNA) defeated Lady JoJo (Sojo Bolt in TNA) to become the new OVW Women’s Champion last night in Louisville, Kentucky. Knuckles is going by the name Izza Belle Smothers in OVW.

JoJo had held the belt for nearly a year. She won it on August 28th, 2010.

You can read a detailed match report here.

* Portia Perez takes on Veda Scott today on Internet pay per view. That match will air as part of PWO Wrestlelution 4: Overdrive at 3pm ET. You can order the iPPV here.

* We want to know your favorite TV match from the week gone by. Vote below…

New WILD Champion and TNA Knockout, Winter, is interviewed just moments after her title victory this past Thursday.

In Video: Mickie James Comments on Possibility of Gail Kim Returning to TNA

35

Knockouts Champion, Mickie James, was interviewed in Orlando today by Brian Fritz ahead of tomorrow night’s Hardcore Justice pay per view.

Perhaps most interestingly, James is asked about the possibility of her former Diva colleagues — Gail Kim (the first ever Knockouts Champion) and Melina — coming to TNA, or rather returning in Gail’s case.

While Mickie didn’t answer about Melina, of Gail she says: “I’d love to work with Gail. […] I didn’t really get a chance to work with her. […] We had, like, maybe one or two matches but we were always on the side usually, so that would be really exciting. I was kinda looking forward to doing more with her and I didn’t get a chance.”

Watch the interview below:

Impact Write-Up (August 04th, 2011): The Champ Takes a Hardcore Hit

18

Hello again, my lovies. It has been a long week without you around and I shall tell you, I am happy this day is finally here. Last week, we got a show chock full of Knockouts action but this week, we’re coming up a little bit short. On this episode, we’ve only got one short singles match with a little bit of an abrupt end to the scene. Whereas, last week, we couldn’t blink without seeing a member of the Knockouts division. Either way, we’ve still got action to discuss and it is going to start with that singles match I mentioned. With the Knockouts Champion, Mickie James on commentary, it is bound to be entertaining. She makes her way out first in an adorable outfit, looking all spiffed up for her night off before Hardcore Justice. She struts over to the commentator’s booth and plants herself right between Taz and Mike Tenay, ready to call the action.

Out first is the “Queen Bee” herself, Madison Rayne. She’s back to wearing that awful beer wench attire, red or black is still horrid. That sash and crown are still in place and she makes no bids about screaming at the woman who took her title from her, in between waving to her adoring fans, of course. I love Madison. She is one of my favorite Knockouts ever but I really want to just take her shopping for new clothes. I mean, really, girl. We need to hit up the mall. For reals. Last to the ring, in true booty poppin’ fashion, is Miss Tessmacher. She is accompanied by her ever-the-wiser partner, Tara and they’re both displaying those new Knockouts Tag Team Championship titles with pride. They’re both looking fierce, Tara especially. Get it girl!

Tessmacher makes her way to the ring, playing it up as usual. She goes about her normal way while Tara watches in admiration until they can suck face on the apron. Oh yes. I went there. Tess, happy as a tick on a dog (redneck reference), spins around in the ring and Madison pretty much has a conniption. While Tenacious Tess is preparing to disrobe, Moody Madi’s head is about ready to spin off. This could get ugly especially since Earl Hebner tells Tara to pack up ship and sail to the back. Madison makes a giant show about wishing her well, sending her goodbyes all across the Florida coast. Talk about projection.

But while Madison is bitching at the world, Tessmacher is ready to rough it up. Not even a finger in the face can stop her from starting this match. She lays in the forearms and stomps Madison into the corner, backin’ that ass up all over Moody’s face. All the while, Mickie and Taz are talking about how to block that particular maneuver…

Really!?

Back in the ring, Moody comes back with a claw to the mouth of Tenacious Tess and then slams her down in a very unceremonious manner. As if she’s nothing at all, Madison picks her up by the hair and just throws her across the ring like old laundry. Not once but twice. Moody runs off at the mouth, talking her trash and then comes off with something we haven’t seen in awhile. That leg-over, back-of-the-head humping, slam-in-the-face knee job business she does. I honestly wouldn’t know what to call it. I don’t think there is anyone on Earth that can come up with a name for it. If you do, please purchase yourself a treat.

However, in the classic slip-up, Moody Madison takes far too much time talking trash at Mickie and when she turns around, gets that old school roll-up from Tess. And she is not happy. Tessmacher barely has enough time to celebrate before Madison is on her, knocking her to the mat and wrapping those grubby paws around her throat. This is not something the champ can stand for. She tosses down her headphones and for some reason, takes far too long to hit the ramp. But it gives Angelina Love just enough time to run out from the back, clearly having forgotten to finish dressing. She was obviously trying to find the perfect outfit, ran out of time and just had to go with what she had on. That’s a valued excuse, right?

Either way, she nails Mickie from behind and slaps her face straight against the metal ramp. But bringing her to her feet is a mistake because Mickie fights back, getting one over on Angelina. That is, until Winter storms from stage right and just clobbers her. The crowd is making no secret in showing them how much they can’t stand them but do they care? Of course not. They’re all about setting Mickie up for the fall and do just that. Angelina holds Mickie’s arms and Winter, with the title, nails her Hardcore Justice opponent right across the temple.

Cue the music and let’s pretend we’re the champion for a moment in time. Only you’re not so you have to (legally) give the champion her title back. Why Angelina feels the need to keep talking smack, I have no idea. She probably can’t hear you through the pounding in her head. Duh.

I know we got a little short changed this week, in regards to the Knockouts but it was a pretty good showing. All leading up to the pay-per-view this Sunday. For those of you itching for more, check out what the champion, Mickie James had to say to Jeremy Borash about the attack after the show. She ain’t going down without a fight and from what we’ve seen from her before, you know it’s true.

Thoughts: Not a bad showing this week, despite the match itself only being about 2 and a half minutes long. But hey, we can’t have what we want every week. It all leads to Hardcore Justice this Sunday, where Mickie is taking on Winter for the Knockouts Championship. We’ve also learned that Sarita and Rosita will be challenging Taramacher in a return match for the Knockouts Tag Team Championships. So if you felt jipped this week on Impact, be sure to tune into the pay-per-view and catch the wagon full of action. I’ll be there and we’ll find out if you will too so until that time, my lovies! xoxo

What did you guys think about this week’s Impact? Tell me about it!

Gail Kim Comments Further on Quitting WWE, Says Divas Are Given “Blink and You Miss” TV Time

142

Former WWE Women’s Champion, Gail Kim, has posted more about her decision to quit WWE on her Twitter page.

Gail says that she didn’t request her release from her contract, rather that she quit, telling TNA Knockout, Tara:

I didn’t ask 4 a release. I QUIT. Lol meaning I don’t want their money I’d rather be freeeeeeee haha :)

Podcast: Looking at Gail & Melina’s WWE Departures, Highlights from Their WWE Careers

Responding to a question about why WWE hasn’t announced her departure on the company website, she wrote:

I don’t know but I’ve been telling them since monday I quit. So either they have control issues or they’re in denial.

Gail Kim and Melina Comment on Their WWE Departures

Gail this morning added:

Every1 sounds sad like its a depressing thing that I quit. Guess what? My life is actually beginning again instead of being stagnant letting my talent go to waste. I waited too long, that should be the depressing part!

Finally, Gail wrote to a fan who said she was giving up ‘the biggest stage for exposure’:

how can it be the biggest stage when the divas got 30 seconds of tv time? Blink and u miss action. Right. Tons of exposure.

Thoughts: I’m not sure how one just quits when they’re under contract. If Gail just quit and walked out without being granted a release from her deal, it could be breach of contract and the company could file a lawsuit. For all intents and purposes, WWE has yet to officially announce that they have released Gail. This could be a sticky situation.

As for her criticisms of WWE, she’s not saying anything that fans haven’t said. You’ll be surprised how many girls feel exactly how we do. It seems like Gail is in a great place personally and financially, so can afford to walk away, and she is. More power to her.

SmackDown Redux: The Days of Cute, Perky Little Princesses Are Over!

51

This week on SmackDown, teacher took on student as Natalya and AJ faced off in a singles match. Will AJ surpass her mentor or does Natalya have a few more lessons to teach? Check out the match below:

Out first is AJ, who is perky as always. Natalya is out next to a pretty decent pop from the audience. After a few awkward grins to one another, the referee signals for the bell and our match is underway.

They start things off with a handshake before locking up. AJ gets the upper-hand with a waistlock, but Nattie reverses into a waistlock of her own. AJ escapes and slaps on a hammer lock, but Natalya reverses once again with a fireman’s carry into an armbar. AJ tries to to turn the tables with a head-scissors, but Nattie kicks out, leaving both Divas at a stalemate.

AJ and Nattie lock up once again and AJ attempts to take Natalya down to the mat with a headlock. Unfortunately for AJ, her small frame allows Natalya to easily toss her away. AJ tries once again, but this time uses her agility to run off of the ropes and take Nattie off of her feet.

Nattie fights back to a vertical base and whips AJ off of the ropes, but AJ gets the upper-hand yet again with a wheelbarrow armdrag. Frustrated with the resilient AJ, Nattie ties her up in a submission, but AJ wiggles once again, managing to lock in a submission of her own right before Nattie kicks her in the face.

Natalya whips AJ off the ropes yet again, but the ‘Geek Goddess’ goes for a crucifix pin. When that fails, she converts into a sunset flip. Natalya rolls through the pin attempt and locks in Sharpshooter, making quick work of AJ.

Post-match, Natalya turns heel and beats the hell out of poor AJ, which is reminiscent of Beth attacking Kelly this past week on Raw. After she’s done, Nattie grabs a mic and says she agrees with Beth and that “… the days of the perky, cute little princesses are over.”

All in all, a great segment. I wish the match was longer, because AJ and Nattie really had some great chemistry, but it was still a good match. The post match beatdown was excellent, in my opinion. Much like Kelly Kelly on Monday, AJ sold this beating like a champ, making it so much more believable.

Like everyone else, I’m wondering where does this heel turn lead? Beth’s turn was needed to make her the #1 Contender, but what is the point of Natalya’s. Perhaps she will align herself with Beth and return to Raw? I surely hope so, because the Sisters of Destruction could be the most dominant Diva duo since Lay-Cool. Can’t wait to see how this Natalya storyline plays out in the coming weeks.

This week we also got the official debut of NXT3 Rookie Diva, Aksana, sporting a brand new look. Watch below as she tries to seduce Teddy long into giving her a spot on Smackdown:

Cute segment here between Aksana and Teddy. Aksana’s strongest asset is her character, so I’m not surprised to see her being used in that capacity to SmackDown. I foresee a lot more of these segments with Teddy Long in our near future, so hopefully it doesn’t get stale too quickly.

Overall, a really good week for the Divas on both Raw and SmackDown. Hopefully, WWE will continue giving the Divas some decent writing and some time to work with.

Gail Kim and Melina Comment on Their WWE Departures

47

Gail Kim and Melina, who quit and were released by WWE respectively, have both commented on their departures from the company.

Kim, who requested her release, wrote on her Twitter page:

Every1 sounds upset or sad or concerned..trust me its the best thing ever. Now my life can begin. All the negativity is gone and control over my life. No one can hold me down but me now!

Meanwhile, Melina wrote on her Twitter page:

Feel free to Tweet, write, call @WWE about how u feel about anything. You deserve to be heard regarding any matter. Strength in numbers.

I love you all so dearly and reading all of your tweets. Seeing the trend… I know w/out a doubt, I’m a lucky woman!

In the next few days you will see many updates on the matter, so keep checking www.RealMelina.com I will definitely Blog & Vlog about it.

I’ve been through quite a bit of stuff in my life. I Overcame each time. I’ll never give up. Not now. I’ll Always fight & #StayStrong

Melina’s boyfriend, WWE Superstar, John Morrison also posted a very moving message about Melina:

I’ve always believed that Melina is the most talented Diva ever employed by World Wrestling Entertainment. (not to mention the hottest!) Her face conveys emotion. Vince McMahon likes to say “Television is a feeling” and I agree with him. That’s what Sports Entertainment is all about. Melina’s presence on Television, aside from the obvious (she be sexy!) is raw emotion- joy, rage, surprise, disgust… her passion just pours out of her.
Melina’s presence on Monday Night Raw will be missed by the WWE universe… and especially by me.
I think this is the end of a chapter in the book of @RealMelina – I met Melina on my audition for Tough Enough 3, I never forgot the smile, and hug she gave me when I made the show and she got cut and told to go home. I’ve stood next to her with Joey while MNM was yelled at; told we’d never make it, we were worthless. I’ve seen her come back from 2 career threatening injuries. She is one of a kind, and talented enough to do whatever she wants. I’m proud to be her man. I love her, and will support whatever she chooses to do next.

Melina Released

193

WWE has announced Melina‘s release via its official website today.

The company posted the standard ‘future endeavored’ message, wishing Melina the best.

Melina, who just this week admitted to being ‘the most controversial woman in wrestling’, has competed at several WrestleManias and been a five-time champion during her run in WWE.

Melina initially tried out for Tough Enough 3 but didn’t make the cut. However, she was later signed by WWE in 2004 and assigned to OVW in Louisville, Kentucky.

Melina debuted in April 2005 with John Morrison (then Johnny Nitro) and Joey Mercury as MNM. She guided the team to several Tag Team Championship victories before breaking out as a solo star herself.

Melina won her first Women’s Championship in February 2007, and headlined her first WrestleMania that year also. Melina would go on to win the Women’s Title on two more occasions. In April 2007, she lost the belt to Mickie James at a house show and won it back the same night. In January 2009, Melina won her third Women’s Title from Beth Phoenix at the Royal Rumble after returning to action just a couple of months prior.

Melina is also a two-time Divas Champion, winning the belt in October 2009 on Raw and at SummerSlam last year.

As controversial as she is popular, Melina has seen her entire WWE career riddled with rumors and Internet reports about having a bad attitude, heat and more.

Whether it be in the ring or out of it, Melina is without a doubt, one of the most talked about Divas in history and will no doubt be remembered for years to come.

Gail Kim Quits WWE

145

Gail Kim posted the following on her Twitter page:

Hey I just wanted every1 to know that I officially quit WWE on monday. So thank u wwe fans! This won’t be the last u see of me. Love u guys :)

Gail returned to WWE following a several year absence in 2008 after leaving TNA Wrestling over pay discrepancy. WWE debuted Gail in March 2009 and used her in the main Divas Title picture on SmackDown with Maryse and Michelle McCool before seemingly dropping the ball on her for the remainder of her tenure, save for one or two title shots.

Gail initially debuted for WWE in 2003 before being released in 2004. She then joined TNA where she was the first ever Knockouts Champion in October 2007.

Over the past couple of months, Gail has tweeted about frustration at her lack of use in the company.

Of course, one must wonder if a return to TNA is in her future. We’d certainly welcome it!

WWE Superstars Redux (August 4th, 2011): That Alicia Reign Just Won’t Let Up

It may be Shark Week, but clearly there is nothing more deadly than an Alicia Fox scissors kick.

Just when you thought it was safe to get back into the water, Alicia strikes again! Her victim this time? Kaitlyn.

Let’s watch and take notes:

Kaitlyn, now sporting generic entrance music, is no longer making the rain fall. Boo! (That song was my guilty pleasure.)

As the bell rings, Alicia slyly scouts a lock-up attempt by Kaitlyn, instead opting to move around her and shove her from behind in heel fashion. Kaitlyn makes a smiley-angry gurny face, not dissimilar to those that Tiffany used to make, and talks a little trash to her opponent. Fox applies a side headlock before taking Kaitlyn down to the mat with and grounding her. Kaitlyn tries to wriggle free and eventually manages to position her legs near Alicia’s head and applies a leg-scissors on the former Divas Champion. Kaitlyn pretty smartly raises herself off the mat, applying pressure to Fox, before Alicia kicks out of the maneuver.

Both Divas quickly rise to their feet but it’s Kaitlyn who is the first to strike with a shoulder tackle and pin attempt, however no three count. Kaitlyn, perhaps arrogantly, shoves Alicia to the mat and says, “That’s one.” Alicia is not happy. Uh oh.

Alicia applies a waist lock on Kaitlyn but the NXT winner soon wriggles free, and in a great display of athleticism and strength, hoists Alicia off the mat and into the air. All that power-lifting pre-WWE has paid off! Kaitlyn props Fox up on the top turnbuckle and mocks her, again rather arrogantly, which just pisses off Alicia even more. Alicia launches off of the turnbuckles with a fiery Thesz Press and begins smashing Kaitlyn’s head against the mat.

Alicia wrenches Kaitlyn’s arm and whips her into the corner but it’s reversed. Alicia with an elbow to Kaitlyn followed by slamming her against the mat head-first. Fox with a pin attempt followed by knees to the back.

Kaitlyn aggressively slams Kaitlyn’s head against the mat a couple of times before applying a headlock as Kaitlyn tries to fight free. Kaitlyn breaks free and slaps Alicia, she runs the ropes and flips Fox into a sunset flip pin attempt but Fox kicks out.

Alicia with a clothesline and yet another headlock, grounding Kaitlyn on the mat and wearing her down. Kaitlyn again tries to fight out of the move, with elbows to Fox’s stomach but the Foxy One is having none of it as she slams Kaitlyn against the canvas face first.

Fox applies another side headlock but this time Kaitlyn manages to hit a side-suplex out of desperation and win herself some time to recover. Kaitlyn with a flapjack now followed by a dropkick and pin attempt but Fox kicks out.

Kaitlyn tosses Alicia into the corner and hits her with forearms. She whips Fox into the opposing corner but Fox reverses. Kaitlyn manages to use her feet to stop herself and jumps atop the middle turnbuckle and hits a nice back elbow on Alicia. Pin attempt but again, Alicia kicks out.

Kaitlyn picks up Fox for a side-slam but Alicia manages to cartwheel out of it. She kicks Kaitlyn in the stomach and you know what time it is! Kaitlyn is in perfect position for a scissors kick! BAM! Fox hits her with the scissors kick across the neck and it’s all over.

Thoughts: The Foxy streak continues! Alicia Fox is without a doubt the best booked Diva in WWE right now, with wins left, right and center, and she’s not even in the title picture. She’s been built up so strongly and solidly with all of these wins, but where does it all lead? As of now, no where, due to Beth Phoenix getting the top heel role after her turn on Raw this past week. I do feel that WWE ought to do something more substantial with Alicia now that she’s notched up so many victories. Surely she’s earned herself a title shot or some sort of storyline?

I was very impressed by Kaitlyn in this match. I must admit, she’s growing on me. She’s come a long way since annoying me with her presence on her days on NXT. I was not a Kaitlyn fan on that show (Naomi losing still hurts) but you have to give the girl props. She’s only been wrestling for one year and has put on two decent matches with Alicia on TV. She looked good in this match and is clearly using her power and strength from her pre-WWE career to her advantage, which I think really helps her stand out in the ring. I thought her hoisting Alicia into the air was a great spot that showed her strength. Of course, this will now lead to comparisons with Beth Phoenix, but I think Kaitlyn could be more of a mix of strength a la Beth, and ‘sexy’ a la Kelly Kelly. She really reminds me of former WWE Diva, Tiffany, who also used her power-lifting background and did things in the ring that we didn’t expect to see from a Diva. I always pictured Tiffany eventually going the distance and being a top Diva and Divas Champion. She had the potential. I really saw something in her. Perhaps Kaitlyn can pick up where she left off and accomplish the things that Tiffany didn’t — after a little more seasoning, of course.

Melina Discusses TV Time for the Divas, Fans Not Giving Divas Credit, Rumors That She’s Being Punished

15

WWE Diva, Melina, recently spoke to SLAM! Sports while on a promotional trip to Canada.

Some highlights from the interview include Melina being asked about rumors rampant on the Internet that she’s not being pushed at the moment because she’s being punished by WWE management for having a bad attitude.

Melina responds:

“That’s just the way it goes. Nothing goes smoothly all the time in life, nothing’s always perfect in any career. In this business, everybody’s going to get their shot; I can’t always get mine. And I accept that.”

“It’s not that I’m being punished. It’s just the way it goes. My fans may want me to get more time, to get more of a push, and I’m happy that they think that. I’m glad that they think that, because that means they still care. And one day it will happen, you’ve got to be patient.”

The former Divas Champion also comments on the amount of TV time the Divas get:

“I trust there’s a reason that we get the time we get. And that there’s going to be a day that we get even more. But until then, we give everything that we can in our allotted time. I think there’s an art to that, and I’m very proud of all the girls on the roster that we’re able to do what we can in that amount of time.”

“People don’t always give the girls the credit that we deserve. I’m not saying that’s within the company, because I know in our company people do know what we have to offer. But I think the ‘smart’ fans sometimes think that we’re being held back because we’re not talented — but we are. I work with these girls every day, and I know what they have to offer.”

“It’s so difficult. We have to look good with our costumes, our hair, and our makeup. And still be PG. But then we have so much more to prove, since because we’re women, it’s like people think we’re not going to be good wrestlers, or they judge us. People don’t realize how much more work we have to do to prove that we can hang, that we’re here, that we deserve to be here.”

On a possible return to managing, she says:

“I miss it. It was a lot of fun. You can be a character behind it, and show little details. There’s so much to be said for doing the little things, like showing a little facials, the way I react to my guy and what he’s doing. I also miss cheating, doing stuff behind the ref’s back. I like being a heel. Being a heel is fun, because there’s so much fun you can have with the character. I get to act crazy, and basically be my alter-ego. When people are rude and mean to me, the person that I really am, I just say, ‘Okay, let it go, and keep moving on with my day.’ As a heel, I can take all those moments where I thought, ‘I wish I could have said this to that person, or done that to this person’ and put it into that character and act it out in the ring.”

You can read the full article, which is a really good read, here.

Thoughts: It’s always amusing to me when people assume a Diva is being punished because she isn’t in the top storyline or on Raw every week — and I would argue this happens to Melina more so than any other Diva. It’s just the way the cookie crumbles. In reality, there’s only one Divas storyline at a time in WWE which means only the girls involved in that storyline are in the spotlight. No one else, sadly, really gets a look in. Beth has been floating around in the background since her return last November, doing very little — like Melina — but you don’t hear ‘punishment’ when it comes to her.

As for Melina’s comments about the Divas not getting the credit they deserve, I’ve said it before — what you see on TV just scratches the surface. The girls aren’t given the time they need to have long matches as they do on live events and usually, when fans go to live events, they’re surprised by how good the matches are. Additionally, few Divas are even given the chance to show personality or have a character that extends beyond ‘generic babyface’ and ‘generic heel’. Alicia Fox has one of the most bubbly personalities of any wrestler on the entire roster (see here) and this is held back on TV. You’re not getting the full enchilada from these girls on television, and I can see why Melina and the other Divas may feel they don’t get the credit they deserve.

Winter Becomes the New WILD World Champion

TNA Knockout Winter has defeated Tab Jackson to become WILD Wrestling’s new World Champion.

The company tweeted results throughout the evening, saying that the “Luck of the Draw match” was originally to be contested by dancing. Jackson was eager to dance but Winter laid into her and “used her charms” to persuade WILD owner Travis Leland into drawing a new match – which wound up being of the No Holds Barred variety. Tab nearly had the match won until a masked man distracted her long enough for Winter to clobber her with the belt, before pinning her to take home the title.

Shelly Martinez was originally scheduled to be in the title match but had to withdraw due to a booking conflict. It’s also interesting to note that earlier in the year, Winter made an appearance during a WILD match (Tab Jackson vs. Aiden Riley) at an IWL show in Chino, CA, and stated that she wanted Tab to be her first opponent in WILD competition.

Fellow WILD wrestler Terra Calaway, who is the current LuchaPro Women’s Champion, has already proclaimed that she is interested in a champion vs. champion match.

Winter finishes the week with a match against Mickie James for the TNA Knockouts Championship at TNA’s “Hardcore Justice” pay-per-view. She could possibly walk out of the show on Sunday a double-champion.

Below is video of the first time she and Tab Jackson met in a WILD ring.
