Impact Write-Up (July 28th, 2011): Hit the Lights! Cue the Dramatic Exit!

Hello, my darlings. After the disaster that was last week, I’m pretty sure that we now have everything back on track. I say we, but I mean me. However, you are like my family. And I just sang that out loud in a very campy, Barney-esque way. Anyhoo! Last week, we saw a Knockouts Championship … Read more

Impact Write-Up (July 21st, 2011): An Unfortunate Series of Insane Events

So I’m going to have to change this introductory paragraph completely, due to ignorant unforeseen circumstances. Why is this write-up so damn late? I’ll tell you. Due to my work schedule, I will start the write-up on Friday afternoon when I get home and then finish it early Saturday morning. Unless, of course, it is … Read more

Night of Champions: Through the Years

nocthroughyears

Night of Champions returns tonight on PPV, and is set to make a lot of unprecedented benchmarks: The first time two Divas matches have been held on one card since 2006 & also the first time the same match has appeared in two consecutive PPVs since late 2007. But the real history being made tonight is that Night of Champions marks the first time ever that both the Women’s and Divas Championships have been defended on the same night.

But enough about tonight, this is about the event ‘Through the Years’. Night of Champions was originally known as Vengeance and began in 2001, before being fully rebranded in 2008. Vengeance/Night of Champions has seen several grudges settled but the Women’s Championship was first defended in 2001, but not seen again until 2007. Tonight marks the first time the Divas Championship will be defended at the PPV.

It all began in 2001…

2001
Jacqueline vs Trish Stratus

At the inaugural Vengeance PPV, young rookie Diva, Trish Stratus was in the first of her historic seven Women’s Championship reigns. Just a month prior to Vengeance [held in December in ’01], Trish did the unthinkable — beat five other more experienced wrestlers to win the title. At Vengeance, Stratus would defend the title for the first time against the veteran, Jacqueline:

Remember a time when Trish was the one who was green in the ring? Feels like a lifetime ago, right? This was a nice matchup, though I gotta tell you, I don’t miss the ‘puppies’ chants one bit. As we all know, Trish would go onto hold the title six more times and get much, much better in the ring [we promise!].

Wrestling veteran, Jacqueline has been released by TNA. Her profile was removed from the company’s website last week and by all indications, she is completely done with the company. Jacqueline’s 12 Year Career Comes to End

Sad news on the Knockout front: TNA is fading Jacqueline away from an onscreen role, ending her 12 year career in the major leagues of wrestling.

Since 1997, Jacqueline has managed to stay in the forefront of America’s biggest promotions – from WCW to WWE to TNA. Her shocking longevity only struck me a few days ago, admist speculation as to why she wasn’t present at the Destination X pay per view last Sunday. It’s true to say that Jacqueline’s run is unprecedented considering the average length of a female wrestler’s career.

Not to panic though! Jacqueline hasn’t been fired. As TNA moves her away from television, she will take up the role of agent for the Knockouts division, keeping her in the fold of the company and women’s wrestling for years to come hopefully.

Jacqueline is a former two time Women’s Champion as well as Cruiserweight Champion. Her first Women’s Championship reign ushered in the Women’s Championship that we know today, currently held by Melina.

May I take this time to congratulate Jackie on her amazing career, she truly deserves a round of applause.

In a tribute to her career, we’ll be counting down Jacqueline’s top five matches as voted for by you. Details after the cut.

Mane Event: Top Ten Worst Hairstyles

Let’s face it, it’s happened to the best of us: the good, the bad, the beautiful, and well, quite frankly, it’s just makes the ugly; bad hair days! For the most part, when there just isn’t a thing to do with your hair, you could always throw it up in a bun, wrap it in a scarf, or even hide it under a baseball cap. But when you’re a WWE Diva or a TNA Knockout, there’s just no exception to those inexcusable mane events!

Join me as I countdown the Top Ten Worst Hairstyles in the world of WWE and TNA. From Divas To Knockouts, this is a Top Ten list you wouldn’t want to be apart of. In an extended version of Diva-Dirt.Com’s Project Diva, I’ll be ranking fahion: the best and the worst! So who will be in our mane event? Can you take a guess… think you know who it is? Well, join me, shall you, and let’s talk hair…

#10 – Mickie “Don’t Call Me Melina” James – Now face this; when Mickie James made her debut, a whole load of us had to do a double take. Was that Melina that just attacked Victoria, coming to the aid of Trish Stratus? The comparisons seem to have been endless on the Internet, which only added further flames to the fire in a much publicized backstage feud between the two. Ah, the good ole days when Melina’s Internet ignorance got the best of her with a shoot blog… and Mickie’s graphic Arby’s photoshoot first surfaced. Good times, I’m telling ya. So which side did you belong to? Team Mickie or Team Melina. Regardless of your preference, caught in-between was the thought: “That’s the best she could do with hair… DEBUT night?!” She has since come so far and has done so much… but I’m still thinkin’ Arby’s.

#09 – Awesome King Kong Braids – How do I even begin with this one? I get that Kong is supposed to be some ‘monster’ wrestler and the biggest threat to Women’s Wrestling, but really? With hair like that? To me, she’s just a seemingly robust woman with a speech impediment, and a really bad case of the braids – yeah, TNA means nothing to me, I don’t watch it. A shout out to all of our Clueless fans; remember when Dionne found that strand of “cheap polyester hair” in the back of Murray’s car… yep, looks like Kong gets her ‘hair did’ with the same slut. There’s nothing intimidating about braids, in fact, nothing good about braids either – NOTHING. Kong should grow out a fro ala Macy Gray, then she’d have the rest of us running like hell like we’re in pursuit of hair relaxer. Yikes!

Inked: A Study in Diva Tattoos

This week’s WWE.com Diva Dish mentioned Candice Michelle‘s newest tattoo, and this little bit inspired me to investigate which former and current Divas and Knockouts have their own selection of body art. Thus, a blog post was born! Below I’ve listed those I could find:

Angelina Love

TNA’s Angelina Love has four tattoos, all pointing towards an angel fixation. She has:

• an angel on her hip
• her former ring name “Angel” scripted on her arm in Old English style lettering
• an angel on the back of her left shoulder
• the Chinese symbol for “angel” on her lower back, surrounded by a set of wings.

Why so angel-obsessed, Angelina?

“I have always had a fascination with angels. I love how they look, I love their innocence, and I love what they represent.”

Ashley Massaro

Former WWE Diva Ashley has plenty of ink:

• a butterfly on her hip
• two black-and-pink nautical stars above the elbows on the back of her arms (her brother has a matching pair on his arms)
• Chinese lettering down the small of her back
• more Chinese lettering down each side of her torso, reading “Trust No One”
• an illustration of a dragon wrapped around the lettering on the left side of her torso.

TNA Impact Redux For 7/10/07

Thursday night’s Impact show was an overall success for the Knockouts (*surprise, surprise*). For the most part, each lady involved had a formidable appearance. The Knockouts Salinas, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, ODB, Gail Kim, Karen Angle, Taylor Wilde, Roxxi, Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed were all featured in some way, shape, or form.

Thoughts & Reactions:
Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong (Title Match):
The first Knockouts match was the $25,000 and TNA Knockouts title match between Taylor Wilde and Awesome Kong. Taylor got some good offense but was pretty boring overall. I just mean, that her only real way to get Kong down was to keep dropkicking her. She needs some better strategy in my opinion. During the contest, Roxxi came down to cheer on “the newbie”. Near the end of the contest, Kong hit a flawless “Implant Buster”, which Taylor somehow kicked out of. The end of the match came when Taylor made a surprise roll-up pin on Kong for the win, the $25,000, and the TNA Knockouts Championship. Will Taylor be able to retain the title on tonights PPV “Victory Road”? We’ll just have to wait and see. My bet says she will.
