Money in the Bank Discussion Post 05.10.20

WWE MITB

The strangest, craziest and most unique Money In The Bank in history is here. Six women, three from RAW, three from SmackDown will start on the ground floor of WWE’s Titan Towers and fight their way up floor by floor and level by level all the way to the rooftop to capture the coveted Money … Read more

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 05.08.20

With the Money in the Bank pay-per-view this Sunday, most of the women on this week’s show were preparing for the event – except two. Two women who perhaps have the best storyline going between all brands during this strange moment in wrestling. They are the former Fire & Desire tag team, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.

At this time Rose and Deville do not have a match on the MITB card. This doesn’t mean they still won’t, but one thing is for sure this feud is far from over. Tonight was the first the two have gone one-on-one since Rose made the first slap at WrestleMania.

The match was good for a first fight. The storytelling is tremendous and both women are selling it so much that most of us are buying in bulk. Between Deville pulling out Rose’s eyelashes telling her she is going to make her ugly to Rose slamming Deville into the announce table saying, “who is the bitch now bitch?” everything was entertaining.

Deville was able to pick up the win in this first match with a hand full of tights as she runs up the ramp from a scathing Rose. In a WWE Exclusive, Deville reiterated that she will ruin Rose and that she is nowhere near finished, she is just getting started.

The second match of the night focused on the SmackDown Women’s Championship match that will take place at MITB. Tamina and Lacey Evans teamed up to face on Bayley and Sasha Banks. The match mostly focused on Tamina and Bayley which makes sense as they are the two that will battle on Sunday. The match was okay, it had its spots and did what it was meant to do.

Tamina picked up with the victory with a pin on the champion after a super kick followed up by a Samoan Drop. Evans will be involved in the MITB Ladder Match on Sunday along with Dana Brooke and Carmella. Brooke and Carmella would have a quick interview backstage with both of them basically pumping themselves up as potential winners.

Let’s go over the Winner’s & Loser’s of the week.

WINNER: Sonya Deville

It is so funny how times have changed. For so many Winners & Losers columns, I would have to put Fire & Desire in the Loser section. Mostly it was due to their booking. I wasn’t too sure how I would feel about them being split up. I wasn’t too crazy to see them split up when there are only literally three tag teams in the division that I want to be better so bad. This combined with the fact I did want them to win as a team. But….this has been great.

Sonya has really shined. Mandy is doing great also, but it is Sonya that is really showing her chops as far as promos and storytelling. Mandy was more of a voice before, so it is good to see Sonya take a lead with this. I can’t wait to see how far this will go.

WINNER: Tamina

Tamina is looking strong heading into MITB with a win. Not only a win but a pin on the champion. If she finally wins a title (other than 24/7 of course) over Bayley who is the longest-reigning SmackDown Champion would be a big boost to her career. She doesn’t even need a long reign, just something to solidify her career. I am ready for it although it is still a long stretch.

LOSERS: Carmella & Dana Brooke

I feel like the MITB participants were put on the back burner. Sure Lacey had a match and she was talked up about her placement in the match, but the three women should have been given more. They could have even had the RAW participants show up and all six of them interact. I don’t know, I just felt there should have been more of a push for them.

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 04.17.20

Another SmackDown is in the book and again we have been treated with many of our favorite women from the blue brand. All eyes are set on Money in the Bank and we need to start building the women of SmackDown for the event.

There were two matches tonight. The first was Naomi vs. Dana Brooke, the winner joins the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. The second match was Tamina vs. Sasha Banks. If Tamina wins then she gets as SmackDown Women’s Championship match against Bayley.

As previously reported, Dana Brooke walked away with a surprising victory. I would go on record by saying that most people expected Naomi to win this. She has been in two prior ladder matches compared to Brooke’s one. However, perhaps with her being removed from the WrestleMania SmackDown Women’s Title match has allowed her to get this OPPORTUNITY.

Another reason why some may have thought she wasn’t going to qualify was because she also has a Women’s Tag Team Championship match next week. Her and Carmella will be facing the champs – Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss. Could Brooke maybe actually be getting a push towards getting her first gold in some form?

The second match as stated above was between Tamina and Sasha Banks. The match itself wasn’t much, but it did serve its purpose. Lacey Evans coming out to provide the assist made sense to continue her rivalry with Banks. More than one storyline intertwining is nice to see.

Tamina was able to pick up the win and get her shot one-on-one against Bayley at Money in the Bank. This will be her first one-on-one title shot in recent memory.

It was also announced that Evans vs. Banks will take place next week to take the second blue brand spot for the MITB match.

Now let’s take a minute to talk about the masterpiece that is Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. This storyline is probably one of the most entertaining across the board. I am truly heartbroken that this isn’t happening in front of a crowd, because the reactions would be amazing.

The purpose of this segment was for Deville to explain to Rose why she has done what she has done. She starts with the tears and how much she loves Rose and how she is a sister to her. This turns once she says, “you are the most selfish human being I have ever met in my entire life.”

Deville opens up to flood gates on who she feels is an eye candy with no talent. According to her, Rose is a dime a dozen who looks like she was created in some sort of lab just like any other typical blonde.

The range of Deville here was amazing. Rose bounced off of it great as well. This broke down when Ziggler and Otis came out, but I feel that this should lead to Mandy vs Sonya at MITB. I am pretty sure it will be a mixed tag match, which is fine, but I really want the women to go one-on-one.

Here are my Winners & Losers of this week’s SmackDown:

WINNER: Dana Brooke

Everything may be coming up Dana. I know I shouldn’t count my chickens before they hatch, however, I have a good feeling about this. I think it would be an utter shock if Alexa and Nikki lost the titles this early next week to Carmella and Dana. Then again, The Kabuki Warriors had a long title reign and this may have just been the quick way to transition the titles. Either way there isn’t a solid tag division so that still remains the problem.

Dana has more of an odds at winning the tag titles then winning MITB. With Shayna and Nia in that match, I am not expecting an underdog to win.

WINNER: Sonya Deville

Sonya freaking Deville gave me my life and something I didn’t even realize I needed. Her mic work has improved leaps and bounds to what it used to be. The levels she was able to portray. I also love how it built up. She started low with her voice and then she built that volume up. As I have mentioned earlier, THIS should have been in front of a crowd, but I am glad it is happening.

Mandy sold it as well, and the fact they are such good friends in real life gives me big hopes for the future of this storyline. I hope WWE doesn’t mess it up.

LOSER: Naomi

Although Naomi will be fine from her not making it into the MITB match, it will be a miss for the fans. She thrives in these types of matches. I am very glad that Dana is in it, but Naomi should be as well. With Shayna and Nia in the match we need every athletic person we can get to make sure it doesn’t stay slow. With that being said, the way they are doing the match this year makes me excited regardless.

Final Thoughts:

Overall it was another good SmackDown highlighting the women. In fact, for the past several weeks, all shows have done a nice job for the ladies and given us all a lot to talk about.

The “climb the corporate ladder” version of the MITB match this year intrigues me. I am looking forward to it. My big fear is that it may open the gates for Shayna Baszler to dominate much like she did at Elimination Chamber. If that is the case, then that will make this a waste of time. Regardless, I am very impressed with these alternate ways WWE is planning to do matches without having a crowd.

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 01/03/20

The first Friday Night SmackDown of the new year kicked off with the women as it very well should have. The scheduled Triple Threat tag team match was first with Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs. Lacey Evans & Dana Brooke vs. Sasha Banks & SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley. The match starts with Evans and Banks, but Banks wasn’t having it as she tagged in Cross.

The match was a great way to start off the year and was quite lengthy. All six-women were able to showcase their skills and it was overall enjoying to watch. The crowd was really into the match as well which was good to see. The match would culminate with Brooke isolated by both Banks and Bayley. In this type of match-up she could tag either Evans or a member of Cross & Bliss.

Bayley would take out the team of Cross & Bliss off the ring apron to the ringside floor to eliminate them from the equation. Brooke would eventually get the tag to Evans. Evans would focus on Bayley and miss with her moonsault as Banks pulled her best friend out of the ring.

After a Bayley to Belly (it is hard to believe she is still using this move) a near fall is broken up by Brooke, Cross, and Bliss. Once the match regroups, Banks is tagged in and after a double team from her and Bayley is countered by Evans, The Boss is hit with the Woman’s Right. Brooke would tag in and hit a huge senton on Banks to pick up the pin and the win.

This was the main focus of the women for the night. Fire & Desire did appear but it was only to further the storyline of Mandy Rose and Otis. Carmella after collecting a couple wins against both Sonya Deville and Rose was not present.

The Usos returned at the end of the show, so this could and mostly like means that Naomi will be on SmackDown upon her return. Naomi was out of action when the WWE Draft took place in October so her placement could be either brand. Hopefully, her return will be held off until maybe the Royal Rumble match so that she receives the best response possible.

WINNER: Dana Brooke

Dana Brooke is perhaps the biggest winner of the night. She not only excelled in the ring but she would pick up the win for her team. Many people may not like that out of anyone in the match she pinned Sasha Banks, but her recently booking recently is what she has needed for years.

She could very well have pinned Nikki Cross or Alexa Bliss and still made an impact without Banks taking another loss. However, the story is between Brooke & Lacey Evans against Banks and Bayley so the pin makes sense.

WINNER: Lacey Evans

Lacey Evans’ babyface turn is better than anyone expected. A gimmick that fits so well with being a heel has actually translated quite well as a babyface role. Her clip art graphics on her titantron seem to have left also. She now has patriotic red, white, and blue graphics which makes more sense for her character and just overall looks better. The crowd was eating it up as well.

Her in-ring skills continue to show improvement. Personally, I have always been a fan of hers but her improvement is still incredibly noticeable to where she was at 6 months ago.

LOSER: Sasha Banks

In the same ways that Dana Brooke is a winner is why Sasha Banks is on the losing end this week. Banks more or less just continues to take losses. It is a tough position for Banks to currently be in as she is still by the side of Bayley. If Bayley loses a match instead then her title may be in jeopardy.

Banks losing just continues to put people over without progressing herself. There is nothing wrong with putting people over, but at some point Banks needs her moment. Could she potentially get her moment by winning the Royal Rumble? As long as they stay together or as long as Bayley is still champion I feel it is always going to be a lose-lose situation.

LOSER: Carmella

Carmella putting together two weeks worth of wins against Fire & Desire to just be missing in action is a little head-scratching. Of course, this is just one week where she is not present, but where are her wins going to push her to? It seems like she needs a good one-on-one feud and not against a tag team.

With the pairing of Brooke and Evans as of late, the landscape of SmackDown is becoming just tag teams. Having more tag teams isn’t a bad thing as that division is badly needing to grow, but then that means there may be a need for a few more singles competitors. Perhaps moving a few over from NXT wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen.

For next week it has already been announced that Lacey Evans will go one-on-one with Sasha Banks.
