Sol Ruca Scores Upset On NXT; NXT Women’s Tag Title Match Set For Jan. 24

If you missed the Jan. 17 episode of NXT, you missed a lot for the women’s division. As usual, NXT showcases its women’s division throughout the show with three matches and various segments throughout.

The first women of the night was a run-in between Tiffany Stratton and Indi Hartwell. Stratton was attempting to get into her locker room but it was locked. She was banging on the door to be let in which prompted Hartwell to open it. The two exchanged words with Hartwell telling Stratton she doesn’t deserve a locker room to herself as she changed the name on the door from Tiffany Stratton to NXT Women’s Locker Room. Hartwell told Stratton to change somewhere else.

As a result of this confrontation, Hartwell will take on Stratton next week.

Next up we have Toxic Attraction making their way to the ring to cut a promo about their number one contender win. They said they were right that they both would be declared the winners from last week’s Battle Royal and as a result will face Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women’s Championship at Vengeance Day. They added they will make Perez regret winning the title.

Lyra Valkyria interrupted the duo and from what she sees, she doesn’t see a champion between the two all she sees is two women who know they can’t beat the champion unless they are doing it together. Perez comes down to save Valkyria and this makes a tag team match between the four women for the main event later in the night.

Another vignette aired for Stevie Turner. She reacted to the 20-woman battle royal match from New Year’s Evil. She commented on moments of the match including the double win by Toxic Attraction. Turner says her debut will be coming soon.

The first women’s match of the night had Sol Ruca taking on Alba Fyre. The two women had a pretty even match with the rising talent of Ruca showing off why she has recently had a lot of eyes on her. The match would result in Ruca getting a shocking upset after Isla Dawn made her way out to the ringside stage. Ruca took advantage of the distraction and hit Sol Snatcher on Fyre to get the pin.

Later in the night, Fyre attacks a referee backstage before the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter & Katana Chance pull her back. They tell her to calm down and focus but Fyre was too emotional over her recent loss. The champs say it took them some time to become tag team champs but look at them now as they are the longest-reigning champs. Fyre then suggests she faces them for the titles. Carter and Chance point out that Fyre doesn’t even have a partner. Fyre seems to think she doesn’t need to have a partner and she can win the tag gold on her own.

This has booked a tag team title bout for next week.

A match was taking place between Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen vs. Gallus with Fallon Henley ringside. Kiana James came out to motivate Jensen who she has formed a relationship with over the past number of weeks. What was supposed to be a good gesture became distracting and cost Briggs & Jensen the match. Henley was upset later in the night about James’ appearance but Jensen convinced her that they like each other and Henley has to just deal with it. Late into the episode, Henley confirmed with Jensen that she will give James a shot and has had them booked in a tag team match as partners.

The next women’s match was Valentina Feroz taking on Thea Hail. Elektra Lopez came out midmatch to take a look at Feroz. The final moments of the match had Lopez giving Feroz the brass knuckles but instead of using them she gave them to the referee. Hail was able to take advantage of the distraction and hit a snapmare DDT on Feroz to get the pinfall and victory.

Shortly later backstage, Feroz was confronted by Lopez. Lopez told her that she needs to start standing on her own and suggests that she watches her match next week against Wendy Choo.

The last women’s match of the night was the tag team match booked from earlier in the night. Lyra Valkyria & Roxanne Perez took on Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne. The final moments of the match had Valkyria tagging in Perez who hit a Thesz Press on Jayne. Valkyria executed a crossbody on Cora Jade who came to ringside to cost the match for Valkyria & Perez. Toxic Attraction went for the Hi-Low but Jayne accidentally caught Dolin with a roundhouse kick. Perez with a Russian Leg Sweep before hitting Pop Rox was what she needed to get the pinfall on Dolin. Perez would stand tall to end the show on the ramp raising the title while Toxic Attraction argued in the ring.

Before the broadcast ended, commentary stated there will be a face-to-face-to-face Championship Summit next week between Perez, Dolin, and Jayne.

Flair & Deville Brawl On SmackDown; Rodriguez Added To Royal Rumble

For those that missed the Jan. 13 episode of SmackDown, there were two women’s matches and a segment involving SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair continuing a feud with Sonya Deville.

The first women we saw during the night was a backstage segment between Liv Morgan, Maxxine Dupri, Emma, and Raquel Rodriguez. In the locker room, both Emma and Maxxine were questioning Morgan’s desire to enter the Royal Rumble in the number one position. Emma was giving her advice more out of care whereas Maxxine pretty much said she was dumb to want to enter at number one.

Rodriguez would enter the conversation and agree with both Emma and Maxxine. Morgan took offense to this and said she recently had her palm read. She wanted Rodriguez to take a look at her palm but instead, Morgan slapped her across the face. Rodriguez said she is tired of people not realizing she is the strongest woman in the locker room. This led to a match between the two later in the night. Rodriguez also declared herself for the Rumble.

The first match was between Tegan Nox and Xia Li. It was a quick affair between the two only lasting a few minutes. The winner of the match would be Nox after she avoided a spinning kick from Li. Nox hit the Shiniest Wizard to get the pinfall victory.

Valhalla was involved in a Viking Raiders vignette calling out Drew McIntyre & Sheamus.

The second match as mentioned earlier was Morgan facing Rodriguez. Lasting a bit longer than the first women’s match, this one went to Rodriguez. As the match came to its conclusion, Morgan pulled out a table despite this not being any type of stipulation match. She set it up and placed Rodriguez on top of it on the outside. As Morgan climbed to the top, Rodriguez would roll off the table and got back in the ring. Still on the turnbuckle, Morgan went to hit a crossbody but was swatted down by Rodriguez. Rodriguez followed up with the Tejana Bomb to get the pin.

Lastly, Sonya Deville was backstage in Adam Pearce’s office demanding a rematch for the SmackDown Women’s Title against Charlotte Flair. Deville failed to get the victory last week and wants another match. Pearce explained to her that’s not how it works, she just lost and has to go to the back of the line. Deville wouldn’t accept this and said she will get her rematch essentially her way.

Moments later after a commercial break, Deville attacked Flair backstage and the two entered into a brawl. The brawl was broken up multiple times by officials but it did last a few minutes.

Alexa Bliss Is The Face Of Evil; Two More Names Added To The Rumble

The Jan. 9 episode of Raw had Alexa Bliss explaining her actions against Bianca Belair last week plus two women’s matches take place.

First, Bliss had her segment as she stepped on top of the commentary desk. She took to the mic to address what took place last week. Commentary confirmed that Belair walked away from what took place with just some stitches.

Bliss started by saying that Belair may be the Raw Women’s Champion but it would be Bliss that is the only one here. She says once she busted Belair’s face open she decided to go run and hide. This confirms that Belair doesn’t need to be afraid of Bray Wyatt or Uncle Howdy, she is only afraid of Bliss. Why is this? Because Bliss is the face of evil and she doesn’t feel bad about what she did because she hasn’t felt this good in a really long time.

Bliss adds that she has finally taken control and she has the whole world in her hands and she isn’t afraid to use her hands to tear more scars into Belair’s face and take the Raw Women’s Championship from her.

After claiming that she would become champion, Bliss was interrupted by a shot of a playground and flash of images from her past time as evil Alexa. Uncle Howdy would then appear and make his way out on stage. The segment then went to a commercial break and as we come back we did not see Bliss or Howdy but instead moved on to the first women’s match of the night.

The first of two women’s matches was Michin taking on Bayley. Last week, Michin had Becky Lynch’s back against Damage CTRL and served as her tag team partner. This week, Lynch was not present which allowed Bayley to get into the head of Michin.

The match came down to an exchange in the corner leading up to a backslide by Bayley. The pin was assisted with Bayley’s foot on the ropes that the referee never saw. A three count gave Bayley the victory leaving Michin visibly upset in the ring.

Later in the night, Damage CTRL were having an interview when Michin came up to address the cheating victory. All three members attacked Michin showing how Lynch is nowhere to be seen when Michin really needed her.

Next up we have Candice LeRae being interviewed backstage. Nikki Cross is spying on her for about the 9th week in a row and we still don’t know why. LeRae provides an update on Johnny Gargano stating that he is out with an injury. She was then asked what is next for her and she commented on the Royal Rumble essentially stating that she intends on being in the Rumble.

Rhea Ripley would interrupt her and laughs at LeRae’s statement of a potential Rumble victory. After calling her delusional, LeRae states that she has just a good of a chance to win the Rumble as Ripley does. The two decide to take things to the next level and have a match.

The match came down to an attack from Ripley on LeRae on the outside. As LeRae attempted a cross body she was caught by Ripley who would then toss her into the barricae multiple times and even apply the triangle submission. Once back in the ring, Ripley set up LeRae for the Riptide to get the victory.

Royal Rumble participants confirmed –

  • Liv Morgan
  • Candice LeRae
  • Rhea Ripley

Roxanne Perez Sits Down To Speak As New NXT Women’s Champion

The pre-taped Dec. 20 episode of NXT had a lot of attention from the women’s division. There were three matches and a fourth that never got underway.

First, we had Nikita Lyons take on Zoey Stark as their feud continues to rage. Stark tried to attack Lyons from behind to start the match but unlike the last sneak attack, Lyons was ready and caught her with a Buzzsaw Kick. The match was pretty back and forth leading up to the ending which saw Stark stealing a victory. Stark reversed an O’Connor roll with a roll of her own while holding the ropes to get the pin.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Cora Jade. Jade gave an unhappy response to Roxanne Perez becoming the new NXT Women’s Champion. Wendy Choo attacked her starting a brawl that leads to a match for the next week.

In another segment, Fallon Henley was at her family bar along with Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen. Kiana James would enter with Giovanna declaring that she was purchasing the bar. Jensen is the one who alerted James of the bar being in financial trouble. Henley didn’t take kindly to James’ advances and challenged her next week to a match.

The second women’s match was for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships and that had Katana Chance & Kayden Carter defend their gold against Ivy Nile & Tatum Paxley as well as Toxic Attraction in a Triple Threat.

The two teams that were involved in the fall were Nile & Paxley along with the champs Carter & Chance. After Paxley pushed Chance off the top rope, Nile locked in a dragon sleeper on Carter. Carter pushed off the ropes and reversed it getting the pin and the victory. This means that Carter and Chance’s reign continues as they are quickly approaching 150 days as champions.

The third women’s match was Indi Hartwell taking on Elektra Lopez. Weeks back Lopez made her return and attacked but Hartwell and Sol Ruca. Since then, Hartwell has had a small fight with Roxanne Perez but now wanted to seek revenge on Lopez. Unfortunately for Hartwell, Lopez had more tricks up her sleeve. By hiding brass knuckles in the top turnbuckle she used them to punch Hartwell in the head to pick up the pin and the victory.

Lastly for matches, there was supposed to be Alba Fyre taking Sol Ruca but it didn’t take place. Prior to their match, Isla Dawn blinded Fyre with mist which had her seek out medical attention. Fyre was cleared to compete, but as she headed to the ring Dawn attacked her and threw her into the ring steps causing the match to not take place.

Also on the Dec. 20 episode of NXT we heard from the new NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez. In a sit-down interview, she spoke about becoming the new champion and what this has meant to hear as working towards this moment for the past five years.

NXT lineup for Dec. 27

  • Kiana James vs. Fallon Henley
  • Wendy Choo vs. Cora Jade
  • Lyra Valkyria vs. Lash Legend

Xia Li Assists Damage CTRL To Retain The Women’s Tag Team Titles

On the Dec. 16 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Damage CTRL successfully retained their Women’s Tag Team Championships after defeating Liv Morgan and Tegan Nox. However, they did have some help, and not just from Bayley.

The match opened the show and the two teams put on a solid match but it reached its conclusion after Nox had a moment with Bayley at the time keeper area. Nox dumped Bayley over the barricade in order to remove her from the situation when a woman in a hoodie kicked Nox. The assailant would be dragged to the back by security immediately after the attack.

This allowed IYO SKY to get Nox back in the ring, deliver a moonsault, and pin her to retain the tag titles for Damage CTRL.

A little later during the show, a WWE Exclusive appeared on WWE’s social media. It would show the hooded assailant being brought to the back as Adam Pearce would reveal who it was that attacked Nox. It would end up being Xia Li. Pearce would order her to go to his office, but there was no follow-up on this for the rest of the show.

Other women from this episode includes Zelina Vega, Valhalla, and B-Fab. Much like last week, all three women were at ringside for their respective stables. There was a triple threat of Hit Row, The Vking Raiders, and Legado del Fantasma to determine the number one contenders for the men’s tag team titles.

During the match, Vega would get involved as she hit Ashante Thee Adonis with a head scissor takedown. B-Fab delivered a bicycle kick to Vega knocking her out of the ring before Valhalla kicked B-Fab in the throat. Both B-Fab and Valhalla were on the outside by commentary when Vega would launch off the second rope and lay out Valhalla.

Lastly, Raquel Rodriguez would be interviewed backstage. She confirmed that she would be in the Gauntlet match set for next week to determine the number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Shayna Baszler and current SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey would appear and attack the already injured Rodriguez.

Alexa Bliss Becomes Number One Contender; Asuka Hints Character Change

Alexa Bliss is the new number one contender for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship. A date for the Bliss vs. Belair match was not announced.

She took on Bayley to start off Raw this week and came away with the victory after delivering Twisted Bliss. The WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai and IYO SKY accompanied Bayley to the ring. However, Becky Lynch arrived and attacked both Kai and SKY taking them out threw the crowd and away from the ring prior to the match starting. Belair came out to ringside to watch the match.

After Bliss picked up the victory she went to give Belair a hug in the ring and caught the Raw Women’s Champion in Sister Abigail. She wouldn’t execute the move releasing Belair as the two backed away from one another. Just before the Sister Abigail tease, the Bray Wyatt symbol appeared on the big screen behind Belair.

The second match of the night was the advertised Candice LeRae taking on IYO SKY. The two have a lot of history from NXT and LeRae was looking to finally get a win over SKY.

Prior to the match, LeRae had a backstage segment with Johnny Gargano and Dexter Lumis. For another week, Nikki Cross appeared behind LeRae spying on her. SKY would end up winning the match after delivering her moonsault. Damage CTRL celebrated in the ring following SKY’s win. LeRae is still winless against SKY in singles matches.

Lastly, the third women’s match had Asuka taking on Rhea Ripley. Although we have seen this match recently, this time felt different as Asuka came to the ring and wrestled without her normal face makeup on. During the match, commentary brought up Asuka’s recent Twitter postings being unusual. For those who have not been caught up, Asuka has been posting her prior to WWE character Kana frequently on social media since last week.

Asuka would take the loss in this match after she spit mist in the face of Dominik Mysterio. This allowed Ripley to deliver the Riptide.

Roxanne Perez Becomes First Iron Survivor At NXT Deadline

Two women’s matches kicked off NXT Deadline on December 10.

The last NXT premium live event of the year opened up with the first-ever women’s Iron Survivor Challenge. Roxanne Perez and Zoey Stark were the first two entrants until Kiana James joined. Stark was the first to score a fall when she pinned Perez to send her to the penalty box for 90 seconds. Cora Jade came in next and scored a fall over James before Indi Hartwell entered last and sent Perez back to the penalty box. Perez finally scored a fall over Stark to give everyone but James one point.

Perez pulled ahead when she hit Pop Rox on her rival Jade. After 90 seconds, Jade returned to the bout but struggled to score another fall before the clock hit 25 minutes. Perez was declared the winner and has now earned a future NXT Women’s Championship match. That match will take place on Jan. 10 at New Year’s Evil.

Right after the Iron Survivor Challenge, Alba Fyre had her chance at revenge against Isla Dawn. The action was hard-fought in and out the ring, but it wasn’t without Dawn’s mysterious antics. The original referee was taken out after black goo began falling out of his mouth. After a new ref came in, Dawn sent Fyre into an exposed turnbuckle and planted her for the three-count.

The tag division received some minor developments during a pair of backstage segments. In one interview, Katana Chance and Kayden Carter interrupted Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley to give them props and tease a future match. Later on, Nile and Paxley attacked Toxic Attraction when they confronted the champs, which led to all three teams brawling until they were pulled apart. It is now confirmed that Nile and Paxley will face Toxic Attraction on Tuesday’s new episode.

Looking ahead, NXT’s next televised special will be New Year’s Evil on January 10, while the next PLE will be Vengeance Day on February 4 in Charlotte, NC.

What did you think of Deadline? Do you think Roxanne Perez will dethrone Mandy Rose? Sound off with your thoughts below!
