Winners & Losers: RAW 12/16/19

Just one night removed from the women main eventing their third (technically fourth if you count Extreme Rules) pay-per-view of the year and we have a clear picture of the RAW Women’s Championship landscape.

Becky Lynch would have a sit down interview backstage with Charly Caruso where she was asked how she is handling her TLC loss. Her response reflected on her not being herself over the past few months as she has been placed in the tag team division rather than defending her own title. The title she hasn’t defending since October in Hell in Cell. She states:

“At first, I thought the powers that be were trying to bury me. Then I realized that it’s something much worse. They’re trying to protect me.”

The powers that be may feel that she can’t beat Asuka and Lynch agreed that after last night they may be right. She would sit Asuka at the top of the division and state how all of her wins against her have proved that she is the best. She would then would look right into the camera and said that Asuka is the one person she hasn’t been able to beat. She needs to prove something to herself by beating her.

This is mostly likely the lead up to Lynch vs. Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble event next month. Frankly this makes the most sense since both women are prior winners of the Royal Rumble so they aren’t needed in that match.

As far as the one match that was given on RAW tonight it was Asuka facing a surprising face in that of Deonna Purrazzo of NXT. What makes this choice rather surprising is Purrazzo hasn’t even been featured on NXT television, but it was a nice treat to see her in action. The match wasn’t the longest as expected but at the same time it wasn’t a fast 30 second squash either. It was a nice outing for her. Asuka obviously walked away with the victory.

Other than the one women’s match and the Becky Lynch promo we witnessed a new vignette for Liv Morgan. The video saw her in a bathroom with a voice over that says she has been reflecting on the person she has been. She has stated that she always wanted to feel comfortable in her own skin instead of being told by others how to be. She would enter a bathtub and end the vignette by saying that she will have to destroy herself in order to for the real her to emerge.

We also had the Days of Our Lives continuation and next segment of the Lana/Bobby Lashley saga. Lana told Lashley to propose to her and he did. He would comment that she is the best women’s wrestler in the entire WWE history.

For the Winners & Losers there really wasn’t enough substance to produce any losers. Even Lana got engaged so that’s winning, right? What was presented for the women tonight wasn’t bad. Everything was enjoyable it just wasn’t enough.

Liv is a winner because as long as we don’t receive three months of vignettes (the Royal Rumble should be the latest her return should last) her return is highly anticipated. Deonna was a winner because she had a match against the top woman in the company. Asuka continued to look strong as she has been. There wasn’t any further friction between Zelina Vega and Andrade so there is no loss for a break up, for now. Becky presented a stellar promo.

The biggest loss is that for the past couple of months the fans continue to only get one women’s match on a three hour show. Perhaps if they didn’t have an hour long Gauntlet Match for the men that resulted in a no contest then maybe they would have time to put on more women’s matches/segments. We can only focus so much on the fact that a few women are out of action right now because they aren’t even using all the ones they current have.

What were your thoughts on this week’s RAW? Who do you think Liv is going to feud with when she returns? Did you enjoy seeing Deonna on RAW? Are you feeling Becky vs. Asuka? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Discussion Post: RAW 12/16/19

Tonight is the first RAW after the TLC pay-per-view and although there was only one women’s match at that event it certainly had everyone talking. In a hellacious TLC main event match, The Kabuki Warriors would retain their Women’s Tag Team Championship against Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. In the end, Asuka climbed the ladder … Read more

Paige discusses her debut win of the Divas Championship

Since WWE Backstage has premiered on FS1, Paige has been a constant panelist. On this week’s show, she commented on the day she made her main roster debut on RAW. Her debut happened on the night after WrestleMania XXX in 2014.

On that night, the current Divas Champion Aj Lee was present in the ring glowing after defeating 13 other women in the Vickie Guerrero Invitational to retain her title.

Paige, who was the current NXT Women’s Champion, made her way to the ring to provide a genuine congratulations to Lee. Lee wasn’t having it and didn’t like being interrupted.

After Lee delivered a slap to Paige she challenged her to an impromptu Divas Championship match. Paige would win the title in her short debut by countering out of the Black Widow submission and delivering her Paige Turner finisher.

On WWE Backstage, Paige explained that she didn’t know she was going to be winning the title until the doors for the show were opening. She states they wanted to keep it a secret.

She comments on how calm Lee was about what was going to take place. Paige makes her entrance, cuts her promo, and wins the title and it worked that simply. This ended Lee’s 295-day longest reign in the title’s history which stayed on record until Nikki Bella surpassed it with 301-days.

Paige would continue her feud with Lee for months throughout 2014 while passing the title back and forth for her second reign and Lee’s third.

Where does this moment rank for you in best debuts on the main roster for the women’s roster? Were you a fan of the Paige and Aj Lee feud? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Live Coverage: RAW 11/25/19

It’s the night after Survivor Series and as far as RAW is concerned there is some unfinished business between Charlotte Flair and Asuka. Asuka would turn on the RAW team captain and leave the Survivor Series match which most likely was the beginning of the end for the red team. The match advertised for tonight … Read more

Team RAW is confirmed for Survivor Series

After a very lackluster RAW this week we finally have a complete team for the red brand for the traditional Survivor Series team. At the beginning of RAW, we found out that The IIconics weren’t on the team and that Charlotte Flair was indeed the captain.

Throughout the show, we weren’t told much about the women’s RAW Team until the advertised Asuka vs. Natalya match went underway. By the end of the match, we found out that Natalya, Asuka, and Kairi Sane will join the team.

This left one spot remaining for the team. It has now been confirmed on WWE.com that Sarah Logan will be the fifth and final member. Logan hasn’t been seen on RAW since a match against Bayley in July.

We now have a full RAW and SmackDown team and are still waiting for the NXT team to be announced which more than likely will happen this Wednesday night.

As a reminder, SmackDown’s team consists of Sasha Banks as team captain, Lacey Evans, Carmella, Dana Brooke, and Nikki Cross.

Winners & Losers: RAW 11/04/19

With Crown Jewel rightfully in our rear window (bye-bye), we can finally start building towards Survivor Series. We saw a glimpse of it on Friday Night SmackDown last week when NXT invaded the blue brand but nothing was set for the upcoming pay-per-view as of yet. It has now been officially announced that Becky Lynch vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Bayley will take place.

There were two matches tonight on RAW that involved the women. The first was The Kabuki Warriors losing to Charlotte Flair & Natalya. The other match was a mixed tag team that involved Zelina Vega & Andrade to face Carolina & Sin Cara. Vega picked up the win for her team. To view the full coverage that was completed for RAW you can click here.

Let’s get right into the Winners & Losers of the week:

WINNER: Zelina Vega

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1191543168795316224?s=20

Zelina showed out tonight during her mixed tag match. Of course, she was the veteran in the ring for the ladies, but regardless she showed why she should be inside that ring. She should do more than just mixed tag matches and by more I mean she should be in the title picture scene.

She would be a breath of fresh air if she were to be given that push and would be a perfect heel for Becky Lynch to cut promos with. It is wishful thinking as we know that is not going to happen.

WINNERS: Shayna Baszler & Becky Lynch

Speaking of great promos, both Shayna and Becky did just that. Shayna proved why she should have moved on from NXT about six to nine months ago. Although NXT is seen more as a lateral move now, her moving to RAW or SmackDown is way overdue. Her as champion in NXT is stifling not just the division but it is also stifling her from becoming more.

As far as Becky she continues to kill it in her promos no matter who she is up against. This is exactly what Becky vs. Ronda was meant to be but never could because of Ronda. Hopefully, Bayley won’t be just that extra person in the match. There is more time to build up this match and hopefully, she can retaliate.

LOSER: Lana

Okay, so I was on the fence last week. I have given this storyline the benefit of the doubt for long enough. It just doesn’t make any sense anymore if it ever did. Can we please do something else with her? If it made sense then it wouldn’t be so bad, but it doesn’t.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1191545978345730048?s=20

LOSER: Carolina

Unfortunately, I wasn’t as impressed with her as I had hoped. Since she lost in her debut match it will be interesting to see if she will continue to be used on RAW or not. She has the talent and maybe after a little while I could see her winding up on the winner side of things.

For some reason, I just felt like she was behind on some of the spots, maybe it was just me? But it was her debut match on RAW skipping right on past NXT so I am sure she was quite nervous.

Final Thoughts:

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1191528126997774336?s=20

Of course, I could put The Kabuki Warriors on the loser list just for the simple fact that they lost. Not only did they lose, but it is clear they are keeping Charlotte Flair and Nattie together to go against them for the titles. The only reason why I am not putting them on the loser list just yet is that one loss doesn’t automatically make their strong push go away. Hopefully, I am wrong and they can continue to be champions even after Charlotte and Nattie face them for the titles. I am probably wrong though.
