NXT Redux (November 16th, 2010): What Do Jamie Keyes, Maxine and Aksana Have in Common?

Previously on NXT…
Life without Maxine for NXT as the final tried to impress the pros and WWE Universe in order to secure the votes they needed to stay in the competition. Aksana was given the chance to explain why she left Goldust at the alter, only to be interrupted by Naomi and challenged to a match later on in the evening. Tensions continued to rise between Brie Bella and Nikki Bella as Nikki squared off against AJ in a singles match. Brie’s good twin ways would eventually cost Nikki the match, something the bad twin probably wasn’t to thrilled about. As far as our love triangle goes, well Vickie Guerrero and Kaitlyn ended up in a brawl backstage and boy, was it ever rough! With an elimination hanging over the girls’ heads tonight, what will happen? Lets take a look…

We’re back to normal this week as Matt Striker successfully kicks off the show by introducing the girls. Naomi, Kaitlyn, Aksana, and AJ make their way to the ring and interestingly enough there are no pros on stage tonight. Striker says that there are only two weeks left of the competition and there will be an elimination tonight. He says that immunity is still up for grabs though and the first challenge tonight is called “How Well Do You Know Your Pro.” Basically how this works is Striker will ask a series of questions and the pros and rookies will answer. The rookies are to guess how they feel their pro will answer. The rookie who gets the most points will win the challenge. At this point, AJ and Kaitlyn are tied for immunity with one win apiece. So, Striker brings out the pros. Kelly Kelly, Vickie, Goldust, and Primo Colon enter and the contest gets underway!

The first question is, “When I first saw my rookie, I thought she was …”

The rookies fill in the blanks. AJ says “underage” and her answer matches with Primo who guesses “sixteen years old.” Aksana says “hot” which basically matches with Goldust’s answer of “sexy.” Kaitlyn said Vickie thought that she (Kaitlyn) was “so much prettier than me” and believe it or not that did not match with Vickie’s answer. She said “a man.” Naomi went last and picked the word “athletic” and that’s what Kelly thought. All rookies earned a point but Kaitlyn.

Voting Open for Last NXT Elimination Before Finale; Opinion Poll: Who Should Go?

6

WWE has opened the polls for the last elimination of NXT season three before the finale. Next week, one last Rookie Diva will be cut before the voting opens to vote for the winner.

Click here to vote to save your fave.

• • • • •

Also, it’s time to vote in our opinion poll once again! Who do you think should be eliminated next? Our opinion polls have successfully gauged the results of all the previous eliminations (Jamie, Maxine and Aksana). This poll should be a indicator as to who will be eliminated next.

Joey Styles Spoils NXT Elimination, WWE Apologises

43

Before last night’s episode of NXT finished airing, WWE.com’s Joey Styles spoiled Aksana‘s elimination on his Twitter page. Styles wrote: “Oh the hell with this, this show was taped over three hours ago. Aksana was eliminated. Who cares?”

Later, WWE’s NXT Twitter account responded: “WWE apologizes for @JoeyStyles’ tweet spoiling tonight’s @WWENXT elimination. His actions were unprofessional & unacceptable.”

Thoughts: ‘Unprofessional and unacceptable’. If you ask me, this situation was embarrassing on WWE’s part. Not to mention cruel to the fans who do continue to watch NXT. It’s amazing to me that WWE would rip into their own product, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this happens on a show that is centered around women.

Aksana Eliminated on NXT

18

Say goodbye to the billion dollar baby from Lithuania.

Aksana, who was mentored by Goldust on the series, was eliminated tonight two weeks before the finale.

Aside from charming us with her hilarious broken English (“What is llama?”), Aksana’s highlights include marrying her NXT Pro Goldust in order to stay int the US. However, after the wedding Aksana made an apparent heel turn announcing she didn’t love Goldust and used him for a green card. Following her elimination tonight, Goldust served the Lithuanian beauty with divorce papers. Double ouch!

Aksana follows in the footsteps of previously eliminated contestants, Maxine and Jamie Keyes. Just three Rookie Divas (AJ, Kaitlyn and Naomi) are still in the running to become WWE’s next breakout Diva in two weeks time.

Was the right person cut? Sound off in the comments…

Update on Mae Young’s Historic Appearance on Raw

11

As reported last night, Hall of Famer Mae Young made a somewhat historic appearance on Raw last night under the ‘Old School’ theme, competing in a match at 87-years-old.

WWE’s Twitter page touted that, with her match last night, Mae was the only person in history to compete in nine different decades (1930s-2010). According to the Wrestling Observer website, that may be factually inaccurate:

Regarding Mae Young, among those in the know it is generally believed that her 1939 debut is a worked date, and the real date is most likely early 1941. No records can be found from before that date, and she herself on Raw said she was 17 when she debuted, which would have been around 1941. People who have wrestling magazines from the 1950s also note that the stories written about her then always listed her debut date as 1941.

Thoughts: Whether it be eight decades or nine, it was still a great moment. According to the Observer, Mae’s use of the words ‘sluts’ and ‘bitches’ caused a big pop backstage — even from Vince McMahon. God bless her!

Raw Redux (November 15th, 2010): Mae Young Serves Up Attitude Era on ‘Old School’ Raw

43

While most Diva fans were expecting the likes of Lita, Trish and Sable to be in attendance for WWE’s ‘Old School’ Raw, WWE truly lived up to the old school aspect of the show and treated us to an impromptu match between the legendary Mae Young and Co-Divas Champions, Lay-Cool. Check out the match and the delightfully un-PG promo that came beforehand:

We start off with “Mean” Gene Okerlund introducing Mae Young. Young comes through the curtain, being propped up accompanied by The Bella Twins to a lukewarm reception from the Hershey, PA crowd. Okerlund goes on to call Mae Young the “Original Diva” (Somewhere, Sunny just leapt off of a bridge) and a picture of Mae Young in her heyday comes up on the TitanTron. Say what you will about me, but Mae Young was freaking hot! Anyhoo, Okerlund give the mic over to Mae, and she says she has been wrestling since she was 17 and plans on wrestling until she’s 100 before Mean Gene takes the mic back.

Knockouts Announced for TNA’s UK Tour

6

Four Knockouts have been announced thus far for TNA’s UK tour next January.

Topping the bill for the ‘Maximum Impact’ tour will be multi-time WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie James, who along with Tara, make their return to the UK for the first time as TNA superstars. They previously toured Europe with WWE.

Knockouts Champion, Madison Rayne and Angelina Love will also be on the tour.

For the full line-up visit TNA’s UK Facebook page.

Thoughts: This is a really strong Knockouts line up (stronger than this year’s tour, for sure). The TNA shows, I believe, will be running in smaller venues than WWE runs when they visit the UK so you’re getting to see top girls like Mickie in a more intimate setting.

87-Year-Old Mae Young Wrestles on Raw, Makes History in the Process

20

WWE Hall of Famer, Mae Young competed in a match tonight on Raw at the ripe old age of 87, claiming a victory over Lay-Cool with the help of the WWE Divas.

According to WWE’s Twitter, that makes Mae the first ever wrestler to compete in nine different decades: “That match makes Mae Young the first to wrestle in NINE different decades (1930s-2010s).” Mae debuted in 1939 thus competing in the 1930s, ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, ’00s and ’10s.

Mae last competed in a WWE ring in 2008 during a 16-Diva tag match on the 800th episode of Raw when she was pinned by Beth Phoenix.

Angelina goes to check on Mickie and she accidentally hits Angelina. Mickie and Tara continue fighting all over and disappear around the corner.

* Madison Rayne comes out and screams at Sarita for putting her hands on her. She says this is her show and she’s the champ. She’ll talk real slow because she’s a Spaniard but GET OUT HERE NOW. Sarita makes her way down.

* * In street clothes, Madison Rayne vs. Sarita. Sarita reversed something into a quick pin. Horrible match. Madison’s shoulder was clearly up. I smell a re-tape. (Source: Wrestling News World)

WSU News, Notes, Video Interviews & Results

WSU issued the following:

MERCEDES MARTINEZ RETAINS WSU WORLD TITLE FOR 34th TIME
This past Saturday, on 11/13, the WSU World Champion once again defended her WSU World Championship, but this time under interesting circumstances. ACE Diamond Division Champion Eddie Kingston teamed up with WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez to take on the unlikely duo of Rob Vegas & Alicia. If Vegas & Alicia won, they would become champions.
Alicia teamed up with Vegas for one reason – to get a shot at the championship that she built up from day one. The former 2-time champion was there for the gold.
The match itself was a very heated contest between champions and challengers. Vegas, the glory hound, cost his team the match when Alicia had Mercedes Martinez laid out with a michinoku driver. Vegas wanted to win the match for his team and tagged himself in. What he wasn’t expecting was to walk right into a killer backfist, courtesy of “The King of Diamonds” Eddie Kingston. After eating the shot heard around Union City, Mercedes Martinez was able to pin Vegas to ensure that her championship reign would go on.
After the match, Vegas blamed Alicia for the loss. Vegas actually went as far as to attack Alicia. In a sign of sportsmanship, Kingston & Martinez chased Vegas off. Martinez & Alicia shook hands after the match. After seeing these two compete against each other again, one can only hope that Martinez/Alicia II happens sometime down the road.
For a complete write-up and a pictorial recap of the match, check out:

Five Divas We’d Love to See at ‘Old School’ Raw

91

Tomorrow night, Raw goes retro, celebrating its past by bringing back some of the ‘old school’ stars from various eras. Right now, we know that Mae Young is set for this special three-hour Raw and while its unlikely that any other women will be brought back, we thought we’d still have some fun in suggesting a few women we’d love to see back!

And just to make things even more interesting, we’re going to avoid the ‘go to’ answers i.e. Trish and Lita. Read our five Divas we’d love to see on this special episode below…

CHYNA
They say ‘never say never’ when it comes to wrestling, however it’s been nearly a decade since Chyna left the WWE and she has not looked back since. Leaving on rather murky terms, it seems a comeback for Chyna — while it would be great to see — is rather unlikely. Still, way back in 1998-99, Chyna could make even non-wrestling fans stop the channel on Monday Night Raw during a channel-surfing spree. Her incredible physique and penchant for stepping toe-to-toe with the big, burly male wrestlers made her unlike any woman we’d seen in the WWE before.

An original member of perhaps the most popular stable in WWE history, DX, Chyna was an icon in her own right — hence why she was referred to as the ‘9th Wonder of the World’. Chyna broke barriers as a woman: competing in the Royal Rumble and King of the Ring tournaments. Eventually, she’d go onto become a multi-time Intercontinental Champion, embarking in classic feuds with Jeff Jarrett and Chris Jericho.

To see her music hit one more time on Raw would perhaps be the female equivalent to when Bret Hart returned on January 4th this year. And for that, she takes our number one spot (even though this isn’t a countdown).

24

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a full length match with our girl, Kristin Astara but thankfully, the wait is over — a recent match has surfaced on YouTube. This is the first match made public in which Kristin competes under her new ‘Kristin Astara’ gimmick, previously going by Krissy Vaine. Hopefully, just the first of many matches we will see in future.

Kristin is set to make her WSU debut on December 11th and has lots of exciting things lined up for 2011, including a new project with Diva Dirt.

Her opponent in this match is a young up-and-comer based in South Carolina, Jayme Jameson.

SmackDown Redux (November 12th, 2010): Layla Versus Natalya; Round Two!

Tonight On SmackDown…

With Survivor Series just on the horizon, and a 2-on-1 Handicap Match for the Diva’s Championship looming, the Lay-Cool/Natalya saga once again continues on Smackdown. Layla rides solo this week as she takes on Natalya in a rematch of sorts from Bragging Rights. Can the two Divas recapture the magic they created at last month’s pay-per-view? Lets take a look…

A smiling Natalya makes her way to the ring first and she gets quite the warm reception. She looks gorgeous, like usual, and once she climbs into the ring and gets set, Lay-Cool’s theme song begins to play. Layla is riding solo tonight and she walks out in her all black attire. Despite the fact she’s British, her welcome is less than friendly. She doesn’t seem to mind, to be honest. Michael Cole explains Michelle’s absence by letting us know that Michelle is basically disgusted by all things British, among some other comments.
