TNA Buzz: Awesome Kongtest, Dixie Carter on Impact

Diva Dirt favourite, Awesome Kong has been teasing a ‘big announcement’ for some time now, well last night she spilled the beans. Good news: She’s not leaving TNA nor is she not pregnant [her words, not mine!] But Kong’s big announcement includes all of you. Kong is holding an ‘Awesome Kongtest’ in which the winners … Read more

The Tiffany Guide to Impact: The Ladies in Red

impact_81309

Last night’s edition of TNA Impact sought the anticipated return of Christy Hemme.  Impact kicks off with Christy making her ever so energetic way to the ring (still donning her Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 attire) to an ever accessible Sojourner Bolt.

The match starts off with an exchange of hairpulling and headlocks as a test of strength.  Christy takes Sojo down for the headlock, but Sojo counters into a headscissors submission.  Christy powers out and puts the split-legged boot to Sojo for the 2-count.  Christy takes a moment to situate a wedgie as Sojo finds her way to the ropes.  Sojo runs the ropes and then proceeds to slam Christy down onto the mat.  She takes her down for a backbreaker that renders a near-fall.  Sojo leads Christy into a choke against the ropes.  Some chants “Lets go Christy” chants resonate the arena as Sojo nails a slingshot elbow onto her opponent.  She sets Christy up for a powerbomb, but Christy sandbags and sends Sojo over with a back drop.  Sojo lands rather…dangerously and nearly on her head.  Unconcerned, Christy riles up the crowd and then drops Sojo with a forearm and a spinning kneel-out facebuster.  Christy misses a clothesline, but manages an uninspired cross body block.  In what seems to be some failure in communication, Sojo cannot seem to muster up the strength to lift Christy, which results in a blown spot.  So, Sojo charges Christy into the corner, instead.  Sojo heaves Christy to the top turnbuckle.  She attempts a superplex, but Christy knocks her down.  Christy lands the “Flying Firecrotch Guillotine” (yes folks you read that right, the FFG) onto Sojo for the win.

Watch the match below:

Not the most impressive match, and we all pretty much knew the result going into it, but it was decent for what it was.  Christy and her boobs looked good (can’t really comment on the firecrotch, though).  Plus, Christy looks extremely pleased to be back home on the active roster:

I’m sure fans can’t wait to see what just might be in store for Christy now that’s she’s back.

Next up is the Four-Corners match among ODB, Victoria, Awesome Kong, and the Knockouts Champion Angelina Love.

There has been a lot of talk this week about a Gail Kim heel turn and as a Diva Dirt favourite, we are extremely excited about the possibility in the coming weeks on Raw. It looks as though Maryse’s loss [to injury] could be Gail’s gain; as WWE teased tension between Gail and new Divas Champion, Mickie James on Raw.

The Tiffany Guide to Impact: Strange Bedfellows

tnaimpact073009

This week on Impact provided a six-Knockout tag match, pitting Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, and Madison Rayne against the likes of ODB, Awesome Kong, and Victoria. As well as an interview with former-Knockouts champion, Victoria.

Interestingly enough, Victoria is announced to be accompanied by tarantula, Poison, which has become an entity of its own. As the commentators get a little flustered over the Beautiful People’s entrance, I have to say that I have been loving Kong’s expressions as of late. The look of disinterest on her face at the start of the match is priceless.

Victoria and Angelina start off the match with a lock up, and Victoria delivers a series of open-handed punches. A run through the ropes and Victoria knocks down the Knockouts champion. Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne attempt to make the save, but Victoria takes the fight to them, as well. Angelina takes advantage of the distraction and blindsights her opponent. Angelina opts to run the ropes, but Victoria takes her down with a powerslam. She goes for the cover until the Beautiful People break up the count. ODB and Kong clear out the ring and the action breaks loose. In the meantime, Victoria resorts to some dirty tactics against Angelina as a source of expressing her pent-up resentment. Victoria delivers a scoop slam to Angelina, who soon scurries away just in time to tag in Madison. Victoria outsmarts Madison and quickly takes her down with a drop toehold before tagging in ODB. ODB lunges Madison into the corner and slams chest-first into her. She then sets Madison up for a fallaway slam, followed by a kip-up. TNA, with their now usual tendency of cutting to break during their Knockout matches, fades to commercial.

The Tiffany Guide to Impact: Let the Bodies Hit the Floor

impact23july09

This week on Impact, the entire active Knockout roster competed in a battle royal for the prize of $50,000 and a chance to be part of the Main Event Mafia. Why the need of a referee for a battle royal, I’m not sure, but a recurrent Traci Brooks fills that quota.

At the first sound of the bell, the most glaring thing is that there is so much going on. I even had flashbacks of the Miss WrestleMania match with the absurdity and lack of entrances. Daffney gets eliminated first, and Awesome Kong tosses Madison Rayne out onto Daffney. In a bit of an overeaction, referee Slick Johnson cradles Madison and calls for help, shadows of their “interaction” last week.

The Beautiful People, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky throw ODB over the top rope, but Cody Deaner breaks her fall. Shady Slick Johnson takes heed of this and sends him to the back. Sojourner Bolt is eliminated by Taylor Wilde, next. Velvet Sky makes an unsuccessful attempt at Victoria, who eliminates her with a kick to the face. Kevin Nash is spotted making his way to commentary as TNA cuts to commercial.

The Tiffany Guide to Victory Road: Et tu, TNA?

victoryroadangelinavictoria

This year’s installment of Victory Road pitted Angelina Love against the Knockouts Champion, Victoria as well as Sharmell vs. Jenna Morasca.

First up is the Knockout’s title match. With the women’s title match being this early on card, don’t know whether to be grateful or plead for mercy.

As the Beautiful People make their beautiful way to the ring, I’m pleased to see Madison Rayne actually doing something in their entrance, even if it’s just shaking her ass. It’s even refreshing to see Angelina out of beekeeper’s suit, even if her pants look like they have gotten into losing battle with a shredder. Oh, and Velvet Sky prances around in lingerie. What else is new? Anyway, I won’t make any mention of Madison’s lean against the ring ropes as doing her best thinking on her back… because that would be inappropriate.

Victoria enters the Impact Zone with Poison by her side and the title held high above her head. At very sound of the bell, Velvet attempts to taunt and distract Victoria. Unperturbed, Victoria takes Angelina Love down and slams her a couple times. This is too much to handle for Angelina who calls for a time-out. Before the challenger can even catch her breath, Victoria pulls her back into the ring. Victoria then proceeds to support Angelina’s weight on her own back while pulling on her hair before slamming her down onto the canvas. Following up with an irish whip to the corner, Love counters but falls into a tarantula manuever against the ropes.

Victoria breaks the hold and gets involved with the Beautiful People, only providing Angelina with the opporunity to score a baseball slide. Just like that, the fight is taken to outside. There are shadows of their last match when Angelina shoves Victoria into the ring apron. Back into the ring, Angelina performs a running dropkick. She then runs Victoria into corner repeatedly. Tossing Victoria down from the turnbuckle, Angelina even finds time to gloat about it.

However, Victoria fights back and whips Angelina Love into the corner. Angelina follows up with kicks to the side of Victoria’s head and a diving clothesline. She goes for the pin multiple times, but is unsuccessful. With similar offense in mind, each Knockout takes her opponent down with a clothesline. Referee Slick Johnson administers a 10-count. Victoria surprisingly musters enough energy to kip-up and soon lead Angelina into a flapjack. A standing moonsault on behalf of Victoria renders a 2-count.

Velvet Sky takes to the ring apron. When the Beautiful People attempt to set Victoria up, Velvet accidently sprays hairpray in Angelina’s eyes. The referee gets so distracted and preoccupied with Velvet and Madison that he abandons what would otherwise be a 3-count against Angelina.

Victoria hits a spinning sidewalk slam and makes her way to the corner, stepping on Angelina Love in the process. She misses a moonsault from the top rope. Taking advantage of this, Angelina goes for the pin. Referee Slick Johnson does not see Victoria’s foot on the bottom rope and crowns Angelina Love the new Knockout’s champion.

A disgruntled Victoria superkicks the referee and even fits in a widow’s peak on the new champion. Angelina is pulled to safety, leaving only the referee to suffer Poison’s wrath. In a backstage segment, Madison Rayne is seen exiting a shower stall just after referee Slick Johnson. It is apparent that some form “persuastion” was utilized to guarantee Angelina’s win. So, forget my last comment about Madison on her back. She can do it standing up, as well.

Honestly, the outcome of this match took me for a spin. The Beautiful People were right by calling Victoria’s win as a fluke, sadly. I don’t want to jump to conclusions and say that Victoria’s title reign was entirely pointless, seeing as I have no idea what TNA may have in store for this feud. I will say though… that it doesn’t make any damn sense. It is only sensible that if TNA was looking to further pursue this feud, they should have either held off in having Victoria win the title on Impact or should have waited to allow Angelina to win the title back. Even perhaps at the next PPV? Sure, feuds are all about exciting twists and turns of events, but I can’t help but feel a tad misled in that aspect. It’s obvious that TNA tried to pull a fast one on us and TNA succeeded. Perhaps, not to its own benefit. Does anyone truly see the point of having Victoria blow all of her momentum? Somewhere, the WWE higher-ups are laughing.

The Tiffany Guide to Impact: Knockoutpalooza

impact16july09

This week’s installment of TNA Impact was jam-packed with Knockout action, including two promos and the debut of Sarita and Alissa Flash.

First, Impact delivered a promo setting up Sharmell vs. Jenna Morasca. Both Sharmell and Jenna hold nothing back in expressing their ill feelings towards one another. Jenna does not seem intimidated at all by Sharmell, but appears to overcompensate with words what Sharmell has in experience. I’m not exactly sure where Sojourner Bolt and Awesome Kong fit in at Victory Road, seeing as the match is still advertised as Sharmell vs. Jenna. Given the impression that each competitor will have her own lady in her corner respectively, it doesn’t do much to level the playing field. Jenna would easily have the edge with Kong at her side. Though, what’s most amusing is that TNA seems to be really treating this as a serious match. Well if you’ve got to admire anything about TNA, it’s got to be their ability to hype anything. Just as I anticipated, this will be only one of two Knockout matches. So, it’s nothing for fans to pull their hair out or souse their eyes out for just yet. I fear it will be that unimpressionable.

Watch the video below:

Further down the lineup, the Beautiful People make their way to the ring with some choice words in mind.

Tara Has the Belt, But Who’s Next?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock this past week, you know that the TNA Knockouts Championship changed hands on Thursday’s Impact. The wrestler formerly known as Victoria, Tara, now has the strap firmly in her grasp. Now while all that is just peaches and cream, I’ve found myself asking a question I’m sure is on everybody’s mind: Who’s next in line for a shot at the title? Here are my picks:

Angelina Love: This one is a given. No way is Angelina Love going to let her title go without a fight. I expect to see her in a rematch in the very near future.

Awesome Kong: Awesome Kong may have had Tara’s back during their tag match with The Beautiful People, but chances are she has her mind set on getting that belt back. Kong has been out of the title picture since losing it to Angelina Love and now would be the perfect time to get back in the game.

See the rest of my picks after the cut.

Tweets of the Week: July 5th, 2009

It’s official: Twitter has become a full-blown internet phenomenon. I mean, what’s better than seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite celebs? I’ll tell you what – seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite Divas! That’s why we’ve devised a new weekly feature, titled Tweets of the Week, where we’ll take a look at what the women of wrestling have been tweeting this week: the funny, the poignant, and the random. We’ll scour Twitter and serve it up for you, complete with the requisite Diva Dirt charm.

This week’s #5 is FCW Diva and WWE trainee Angela Fong (@missangelafong) witnessing an age-old Fourth of July tradition with a mixture of fear and awe:

Clearly, competitive eating isn’t on her list of things to do. Maybe, as a Canadian, she doesn’t truly appreciate the good old fashioned American hot dog? Diva Dirt will have to air-mail her one.

#4 sees Divas Champion Maryse (@maryse0uellet) takes advantage of a recent tour through Australia to admire some of the locals.. sort of:

Her thick French accent vs. an Aussie accent? Tough choice.. Kind of like Marion Cotillard vs. Nicole Kidman. Gotta go with Kidman on this one. ;)

In #3, brings us Indy darling, former TNA Knockout, and SHIMMER girl Nikki Roxx (@RoxxiNikki) recounting an incident that proves physical humor is always the best humor:

Hopefully the guy’s okay, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be laughing my ass off too. But dude, watch out: car beats bicycle every time!

The Tiffany Guide to Impact: The Beautiful People Endure ArachNO!phobia

impact02july09

This past Thursday, TNA lead us into a featured Knockouts competition with a quick promo to hype the debut of Sarita – definitely something to look forward to in upcoming weeks.

Next is the contest of The Beautiful People, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky vs. the team of Awesome Kong and Victoria. I’ve never quite understood the appeal of wrestling in mini skirts, but nonetheless The Beautiful People make their way to the ring looking as tawdry as ever with a prop-donning Madison Rayne as their escort. Awesome Kong then enters, still accompanied by Raisha Saeed. As Victoria’s presence is felt, we see the notorious black box attached to her hip, which is only a haunting sign of things to come.

It’s official: Twitter has become a full-blown internet phenomenon. I mean, what’s better than seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite celebs? I’ll tell you what – seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite Divas! We’ll scour Twitter and serve it up for you, complete with the requisite Diva Dirt charm.

Starting off this week at #5 is Maria (@MariaLKanellis) watching tearjerker charity show Extreme Home Makeover:

I have to admit, seeing the words “makeover” and “Maria” in close proximity makes me want to run for the hills, but it’s sweet to see anyone with a desire to do good for others. Still, I can’t shake the terrifying image of wall-to-wall leopard print and bedazzled drapery..

At #4, Layla (@mslayel) chats with foe Eve (@EveMarieTorres):

Sounds like a feud for the ages, no? Diva feuds have been settled in the ring, in a cage, even in pools filled with Egg Nog. Is the next logical step a knock down, drag-out fight in the middle of a Bath and Body Works?

#3 brings us Divas Champion Maryse (@Maryse0uellet) paying tribute to the late Farrah Fawcett in a way only she can:

The trademark “feathered” hairdo has always been attributed to Charlie’s most famous Angel, but I thought that trend faded out in the 70’s. Maybe Maryse is three decades late to the party. Hey, I hear that movie Star Wars is pretty good – I bet it’ll be a big hit! I have to say, though , Maryse pulls the look off – Farrah would be proud. Now if you excuse me I need to work on my disco dance moves, amongst other cliché things..

The Weekly Roundup (May 24 – 30, 2009) – A Week in Television

weeklyroundup

Welcome to Diva Dirt’s new feature – The Weekly Roundup, a look at the week in television! From Raw, SmackDown, ECW and TNA too, we look back at the week’s highs and lows as well as giving you the opportunity to catch up on what you’ve missed!

MAY 24th – MAY 30th, 2009

It’s been a positively exhausting seven days for us women’s wrestling fans! From TNA’s Sacrifice pay per view last Sunday to last night’s Friday Night SmackDown. Take a look back at the week that was, with Diva Dirt.

Best Bet: The best moment of the week had to be Victoria‘s TNA debut on Impact, this past Thursday night. We saw a rejuvenated Vicious Vixen looking better than she has in years, make quite the impact on Angelina Love (no pun intended). This moment will surely be a strong contender in the 2009 Year-End Awards.

Honourable Mention: The next top moment came from star-in-the-making, Alicia Fox who got the chance to compete in the ring with the multi-talented, three time Women’s Champion, Melina. Sure she lost, but for a young Diva, working with the champion is one hell of a rub. We predict big things for A-Fox!

Low Point: The disappointing Divas Championship scenario on Raw left a bad taste in my mouth this week. Mickie James looked to be in line for a feud with Maryse, but it now seems Kelly Kelly will get that honour.

The Weekly Roundup (April 19 – 25, 2009) – A Week in Television

weeklyroundup

Welcome to Diva Dirt’s new feature – The Weekly Roundup, a look at the week in television! From Raw, SmackDown, ECW and TNA too, we look back at the week’s highs and lows as well as giving you the opportunity to catch up on what you’ve missed!

APRIL 19TH – APRIL 25TH, 2009

This week has been huge for the Divas and Knockouts, possibly the most action packed week of wrestling so far in 2009! Over the past week, we have seen all three of the major women’s titles on the line; the Women’s Championship, the Divas Championship and the Knockout Championship were all defended.

Best Bet: My standout of the week was the Women’s Championship match from Raw, as Melina successfully defended the title against rival, Beth Phoenix before moving over to SmackDown.

Close Call: Angelina Love‘s Knockout Championship victory at Lockdown was definitely a highlight of the week, as she finally captured the belt, but I personally preferred the Raw match.

Low Point: This week’s low comes from ECW’s booking of their new Diva, Natalya, as she jobs not once but twice to Hornswoggle in the same week. Pitiful.

TNA Watch: Angelina Love Wins Knockout Title at Lockdown

It’s finally here! Videos from Lockdown have finally surfaced and here we go… First up, I’m going to dive right into the match we all want to see. Angelina Love defeating Awesome Kong and Taylor Wilde to become the new Knockout Champion:

LOCKDOWN: TRIPLE THREAT KNOCKOUT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

A very good match, as always from the Knockouts. Tying Kong’s braids to the cage was inspired lol… whoever thought of that, great stuff. It kept her distracted for Angelina to pick up the win. It’s a shame the match had to end the way it did, after Angelina got knocked silly from that crossbody by Taylor. I would have liked a more definitive finish i.e. Angelina hitting her finisher on Taylor for the three count, but I understand they had to rush to the finish because Ang was out of it thus the quick pin after Kong hit the big boot on Taylor. You could tell that she was still out of it in her post-match celebration. It’s a shame, but hey she is Knockout Champion now so all is well.

The Queen of the Cage match is after the cut:

As a frequent visitor of this site I noticed something that I found strange. A lot of you guys are not familiar with SHIMMER. For shame people. SHIMMER is the cream of the crop of women’s wrestling.
