30 Influential LGBTQ Wrestlers, June 16: Veny

It is June and that means for the whole month the LGBTQ community get to celebrate extra hard about being ourselves every day! And because of that, every day here throughout the month, we are going to spotlight one LGBTQ+ wrestler. These names are not going to be in any order. So, this won’t be a countdown but more of just a highlight to celebrate.

For June 16, we are going to go with Veny as our influential wrestler!

Veny, who used to go by the name Asuka, made her wrestling debut in 2015. She is the first known transgender wrestler in Japan. She first came out as gay before transitioning.

She has spent most of career in two Japan promotions – Pro Wrestling Wave and DDT Pro-Wrestling. Veny has won many championships including being a three-time Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion in DDT and a two-time Wave Single Champion. She’s also worked and won titles in other Japanese promotions, Seadlinnng and Sendai Girls.

Veny did wrestle for AEW in the Japanese bracket of the AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament. She lost to Emi Sakura.
