Eve To Make Wrestling Debut… Sorta!

I’m not exactly sure if it’s her “mainstream” wrestling debut for WWE, by that I mean, not on a house show or down in developmental. And to be honest, I’m too lazy to check hence the “sorta.” Anyhow, SmackDown’s forgotten Diva, Eve Torres will step into the ring tomorrow at WWE’s second annual SummerFest in … Read more

Torrie Returns To Shake Her Money Maker

My home girl, Torrie Wilson is officially ready to hit the circuit once again! Three months after her WWE retirement and 9 months since her injury, Torrie is now accepting bookings for appearances including wrestling shows… though not as a wrestler, of course Torrie suffered a career-ending back injury. Word has it that Torrie’s people … Read more

Love & Sky: Why TNA is Better

Velvet Sky and Angelina Love were recently interviewed by the Miami Herald, speaking on a range of topics, but mostly focusing on the state of women’s wrestling. Obviously, with TNA’s reputation of spawning butthurt wrestlers, one has come to expect a few potshots at the WWE when it comes to TNA interviews. However, despite the predictable shots taken by Love and Sky, they do have valid points. Here’s a selection of quotes:

‘The women’s division in TNA definitely sets us apart from any other form of women’s wrestling because we offer something called variety,” Sky said. “None of us looks exactly the same. There’s blonde hair, dark hair, red hair, no hair.

“It sets us apart because we all look different. We all dress different. We all wrestle different, and we don’t offer fluff-n-nutter that you see elsewhere. We’re hard hitting.

“Every girl has something different to offer. We all have wrestling experience. We all wrestle differently, different styles. We’re not models who don’t know anything or don’t know how to do anything. We all have experience and backgrounds in wrestling, and we really take women’s wrestling to a different level.”

The Beautiful People took it to a new level, working well together in the ring, on promos and during interviews. They improve, and the TNA women’s division is improving, attracting more fans.

”I think it’s starting to gain respect, again,” Love said.

Sky: “Because of us.”

Love: ‘There’s some aspects where it’s like, `This sucks,’ because it’s all models, and this is brutal, brutal, brutal, but then you can watch us and be like, ‘Oh my God. Those girls actually know how to wrestle.’ It’s crazy.”

Taylor’s Got Issues

I have always thought TNA Knockout Champion, Taylor Wilde had a striking resemblance to teen queen, Lauren Conrad from the infectious MTV series, The Hills. Turns out, just like that very show, Taylor is not without her own melodramas – Taylor has an issue uttering the letters “WWE.” Uh-huh, you read right. Taylor apparently felt … Read more

Shut Up Ashley and Shut Up Now!

One month after leaving WWE, Ashley Massaro is already plotting her comeback to television. In her latest MySpace blog, Ashley writes that her sick daughter is responding to the medicine and doing well… but honestly, this whole thing is becoming a little suspicious to me now. It’ll be a month on Saturday since she wrote … Read more

The Big Brooke Hogan Post

I tried, I tried, I tried. Brooke Hogan can’t really be considered a “Diva” or “woman of wrestling”, hence why we have never really posted anything about her. But things are getting juicy! First off, Hulk’s little girl may be appearing in Playboy! That is the rumour that’s been making the rounds by oh I … Read more

A Little Too Unserious?

As some of you have pointed out, WWE.com has deleted the Beth Phoenix photoshoot they posted yesterday, leading to speculation as to why. Allow me to throw my hat in… Though this could be an oversight, perhaps someone in the upper echelon of WWE (or Creative) saw the shoot and requested it be pulled down … Read more

Vickie “No Longer A Guerrero”

This has been out on the web for a couple of days now, but in case you haven’t heard SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero‘s former brother-in-law Hector Guerrero (of TNA fame) wrote in a recent interview that Vickie was no longer a Guerrero. Sounds ominous… “Vickie Guerrero is not Vickie Guerrero anymore,” Hector said. “She is … Read more

Two Former Divas Blog

Recent Diva departures, Ashley Massaro and Torrie Wilson have taken to MySpace today to update fans on themselves! First up is this short and sweet message from Ashley! Now, if you were one of the billion people who cried, “She didn’t write this!” at the controversial blog she posted on July 2nd where she announced her leave – have a cookie! The dirty but no longer Diva admitted that she didn’t pen the blog… but sorta, kinda did:

Hey yall just wanted to drop in to say thanks to everyone whose been sending well wishes and I miss yall too, I’ll see you soon though I promise. The lil angels doin better this week, hopefully werre outta the woods but who knows. I just wanted to say thanks for stoppin in and checkin. BTW that last blog that was posted, I had to call it in to one of my friends to post it because we were no where near home and thats why I guess it didn’t “sound like” me. Haha, you guys were quick to figure that out, thats some funny S**t that you know me like that. Anyway, have a great weekend everybody, I got a whole lotta stuff comin your way soo just hang tight.

Next up, Torrie Wilson has re-emerged on the eve of her 33rd birthday with a new blog, talking about going to the gym for the first time since her surgery and hanging with the Divas recently! Excerpt below:

My back is healing well after surgery and I have started working out again and I couldn’t be more happy! I guess I am one of those weird creatures that really LOVES to workout and it has been so hard to stay out of the gym the past 4 months. (YIKES!) I actually cried the first day I went back to the gym because I couldn’t believe how much strength I lost and felt like I lost everything I have worked so hard for…but heck there are people out there that have it wayyy worse than me so I definately won’t complain! I have since been just working super hard to get into the best shape of my life. Slowly but surely!

WWE wishes Ashley the best in all future endeavors. Due … Read more

Blonde, Big-Breasted Woman to Join the WWE???

With all the Ashley “is she or isn’t she (a hooker)” talk, I felt the timing of this news quite appropriate – according to the ever-reliable Paul Heyman over at the The Sun, there’s a slight chance of porn star Jenna Jameson making the move from being naked on your computer screen to.. being half-naked on your TV screen – okay, so it’s not a HUGE leap, but you know the WWE loves their trashy self-promotion! Heyman wrote the following on his Sun blog:

“Tito is finishing up his UFC contract this weekend. What does he do next? Wear out his name in MMA, or capitalize on his love for pro wrestling and exploit his larger than life personality by joining WWE or TNA? And remember, where Tito goes, so goes Jenna Jameson, the best self-promoter in show business today.

Welcome to another edition of the Playlist, our regularly scheduled music column! This week we have a little mixture of everything… some news, YouTube videos and new music!

mariah.pngNews & Tidbits
Here at the Playlist, in previous issues I’ve heavily touted two of my favourite artists – Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis! Well it’s with extreme pleasure I’m able to share some chart news on both of these talented divas (of the musical kind)!

• Last week, Leona Lewis made history when she became the first British female artist in history to top the Billboard album charts! Leona’s debut album Spirit sold just over 200,000 copies to give her the number one album in the United States. In fact, Leona also had the #1 single in the country too making her week extra special as she topped both the singles and album charts! (More Leona after the cut, when we YouTube her American Idol performance last night!)

• Last week was Leona’s week, but this week – the original diva, Mariah Carey knocked her off the top spot as her new album E=MC2 topped the album charts, giving Mimi her highest selling debut week of all time! Her 11th studio album sold 463,000 copies over the course of a week. Mariah’s last album, The Emancipation of Mimi was her previous record setter with 404,000 copies in it’s first week. (More Mimi after the cut in our new music section!)

For new music and a YouTube video of Leona on Idol:

Playlist: Mariah Carey “E=MC2” Review

playlist.jpg
Welcome to another edition of the Playlist, our regularly scheduled music column! This week all eyes are on Mariah Carey as the diva prepares to release her 11th studio album, E=MC2 next week! Check out our review of the album…

mariah.pngIn 2005, Mariah (or should we say Mimi?) was emancipated and now, the world’s biggest selling female artist is unleashing another 14 tracks of fun, bliss and emotion on her “lambs.” E=MC2 is the 11th studio album from the one and only Mariah Carey, whose storied career has spanned nearly 15 years. Still, the diva continues to remain relevant in music today – after all her 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi was the biggest selling album of the year, spawning the #1 smash hit We Belong Together which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 weeks. Mariah described her latest offering as the dessert to the main course that was Mimi… and she couldn’t be more right! Though this offering doesn’t quite match her comeback album, Mariah still has it and puts the other rising female artists in their places with a knockout album.

Already the album has made history, it’s lead single Touch My Body became Mariah’s 18th #1 hit in the United States making her second only to the Beatles in terms of artists with the most #1s (the Beatles have 20). But having listened to this album, I can almost guarantee that Mariah will be able to match, if not surpass, the legendary British band. It’s fair to say that every song on the album has single potential, yet all the songs are an eclectic mix.

Box Office – Weekend of April 4th, 2008

Welcome to the Box Office! In this weekly feature, I’ll look at each week’s wide releases, summarize their plots (i.e. pasting from imdb.com), and give my opinion of whether or not they’re worth your 8 dollars (or whatever godawful price they’re charging these days). This week has a few new releases, each appealing to a different set of moviegoers:

“Leatherheads”starring George Clooney, Renée Zellweger, & John Krasinski
Plot summary – A romantic comedy set against the backdrop of America’s nascent pro-football league in 1925. Dodge Connolly, a charming, brash football hero, is determined to guide his team from bar brawls to packed stadiums. But after the players lose their sponsor and the entire league faces certain collapse, Dodge convinces a college football star to join his ragtag ranks. This new champ is almost too good to be true, and Lexie Littleton aims to prove that’s the case. A cub journalist playing in the big leagues, Lexie is a spitfire newswoman who suspects there are holes in Carter’s war story. As the new game of pro-football becomes less like the freewheeling sport he knew and loved, Dodge must both fight to keep his guys together and to get the girl of his dreams.
My take – I saw this movie yesterday, but I’ll spare you from a review. Let me just say that the period aspect of the movie (it’s set in the late 1920s) certainly adds to its appeal to me. I like the vintage styles and the classic look at football that we usually don’t get to see this side of ESPN Classic.

Welcome to the Playlist, a new feature here at Diva Dirt looking at the latest music and music-related news! From wrestling Divas to musical ones, this week as we look at the triumphant chart success of Leona Lewis and Danity Kane! Fitting, as this is Diva Dirt after all!

Following in the footsteps of Whitney Houston and Destiny’s Child, divas in their own right – say hello to the new class! Leona Lewis and Danity Kane both made headlines, #1’s and history this week as they topped the single and album charts, respectively.

playlist-leona.jpgThe Great British Invasion
As someone that’s been on this girl’s bandwagon for nearly two years, I’m happy to report that Leona Lewis made (even more) history this week as she became the first British female to top the US Billboard Hot 100 in 20 years! The songstress from Hackney, East London (that’s in the UK for some of you out there) has had whirlwind, worldwide success since winning The X Factor (the British equivalent to American Idol) in 2006. Leona topped the Hot 100 with the smash-hit single, “Bleeding Love” which was last year crowned the biggest selling single of 2007 in the UK and held the #1 spot here for 7 weeks. The British diva’s accolades don’t stop there, she also had the biggest selling single of 2006 in the UK with a cover of Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This.” Her debut album, “Spirit” was also dubbed the biggest selling debut in British history. Oh and not to mention, this girl has one hell of a set of lungs on her!

Box Office – Weekend of March 28th, 2008

Welcome to the Box Office! In this weekly feature, I’ll look at each week’s wide releases, summarize their plots (i.e. pasting from imdb.com), and give my opinion of whether or not they’re worth your 8 dollars (or whatever godawful price they’re charging these days). This week has several new releases, with the majority of them seeming to target the younger crowd:

“21”starring Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, and Kate Bosworth
Plot summary – “21” is the fact-based story about six MIT students who were trained to become experts in card counting and subsequently took Vegas casinos for millions in winnings.
My take – I quite liked Sturgess in “The Other Boleyn Girl” (Poor George!) and somewhat in “Across the Universe” (I loved the music and stylistic elements – I just didn’t buy the love story for a second.) As for Spacey (aka Lex Luthor in “Superman Returns”), he’s excellent in most of what he does, so I’ll trust that he is at least decent in his role as the ringleader of the students. Kate Bosworth (Oh look, another “Superman Returns” alumni!), has never been a great actress to me, but I trust she holds her own in the film. The casino story has been done to death as of late, but the element of college students in a sort of non-school sponsored “heist club” helps differentiate it a bit.

Really True (and Candid) Internet Confessions

While Diva Dirt was in the development stages, former Women’s Champion Melina spoke candidly earlier this week on her relationship with Batista. Last year, Batista confessed in his autobiography Batista Unleashed that he and Melina had had a relationship. Eric: Were you surprised at how much Batista wrote about your relationship with him in his book? … Read more
