FCW Recap: June 28, 2009 – WWE Takes Over

The WWE Divas were on display in Florida Championship Wrestling last night. After a couple of Diva-less weeks, FCW gets back into it’s stride pitting RAW Diva Rosa Mendes and SmackDown Diva Layla (pre-frizz) against Smackdown Diva Alicia Fox and Angela Fong. Sounds good, right? Yeah…, not so much. Watch the match below to see what … Read more

Michelle McCool Wins & Makes History… Again

Ladies and gentlemen, Diva Dirt has crowned it’s first ever Female Grand Slam Champion in Michelle McCool. Michelle defeated Melina to become the new Women’s Champion moments ago at The Bash in an incredible match, if I do say so myself. I know this will be an unpopular outcome for many, but I urge you … Read more

The Bash: Through the Years

bashthroughyears

Tonight, WWE holds the 6th incarnation of it’s ‘Bash’ pay per view, a former staple of the WCW PPV calendar. Up until this year, the event had gone by the name of ‘The Great American Bash’, but in an effort to make the show more globally-friendly, it has been shortened to ‘The Bash’.

Tonight at The Bash, the Women’s Championship will be defended for only the second time at the event when Melina defends against Michelle McCool. Neither Diva is a stranger to this particular event, Melina was involved in the very first Women’s Title defence in 2007. Meanwhile, McCool’s career landmark came last year, when she became the first ever Divas Champion at this PPV.

Let us take a look through the years at the various Bash events, ahead of tonight’s big pay per view! Remember to join us for our Bash live blog from 7.45pm ET/12.45am UK!

2004
Sable vs Torrie Wilson

The first Bash pay per view was held in 2004, when WWE ressurected the event for it’s SmackDown brand. With the advertising campaign based around the brand’s top Diva, Torrie Wilson, it only made sense to put her on the card. Sable and Torrie had started out as bitter rivals in 2003 before making up to appear on the cover of Playboy together in March 2004. They even notched up a huge victory together at WrestleMania XX for the SmackDown brand. But just a few months later, they were back at each other’s throats (both on screen and in real life!) which led to this match at the Bash:

It may not have been the most technical affair, but Sable could teach our current crop of Divas a thing or two about in-ring psychology. Her heel mannerisms are resemblant of current Diva, Maryse’s. Though Sable stole a win here, Torrie would get her revenge the very next week on SmackDown.

Diva B-Sides: ‘The Bash’ Edition

divabsides

Welcome to Diva B-Sides, the Diva Dirt exclusive where we match WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts with new entrance themes. In honor of this Sunday’s PPV, The Bash, I’ve decided to take exception to my new one-Diva-per-post rule to bring you guys a B-Side for both the champion and the challenger. Let’s get right into things with the #1 contender Michelle McCool:

MICHELLE’S PICK: “BREAKING DISHES” BY RIHANNA

I think we can all agree that Michelle’s current theme has long wore out it’s welcome. It just doesn’t fit her new persona. She could also stand to change that tron, because running along the beach in a skimpy bikini just doesnt scream ‘heel’ to me. Alas that’s another post for another time.

At first listen, this song might not seem to fit Michelle, but I think it’s message of being a powerful woman, girl power etc. fits her perfectly. I think that a song with so much character such as this one could help McCool make up in the charisma department (where she is somewhat lacking).

Raw Redux (June 22, 2009) – If You Missed Raw, You Didn’t Miss Much

Last night’s much touted ‘commercial free’ Raw was a certifiable flop in the Divas department. If you missed it – and I’m kinda wishing I had – you didn’t miss anything at all. In fact, you could have just not watched last night’s Raw and continue living your life because there was nothing interesting about … Read more

SmackDown Redux Does Superstars (June 18, 2009): Eve’s Got Game

Last night on Superstars, feuding SmackDown Divas Eve and Layla took their rivalry to the tri-branded ring in a rematch from their much hyped singles bout a few weeks ago. Adding extra ‘flavour’ to the proceedings was a special guest referee, in the form of a very gaudy looking Maria: You’d think by now that … Read more

New Women’s Champion Crowned Last Night

Last night’s SmackDown house show saw the passing of a title belt – the Women’s Championship – as Melina temporarily passed the title onto an unlikely ‘new champion’ in Chris Jericho, lol. The Intercontinental Champion accidentally left his belt at his hotel room, which meant he had an Intercontinental Championship match but no Intercontinental title. … Read more

WWE Superstars: June 11, 2009 – Glamazon is Back Y’all!

The Glamazon, Beth Phoenix returned to top form last night on WWE Superstars, leading her protege, Rosa Mendes to victory over the Bella Twins. Check it out below: Sure she was playing in the ‘kiddy pool’ but it’s a starting point to getting her Raw career back on track, after all a win’s a win. … Read more

Extreme Rules Live Divas Coverage

extreme-rules-1-cr

While the results from the Dark Match at Extreme Rules were posted earlier, I figured I’d give a more in-depth look at the matchup where Beth Phoenix and her intern Rosa Mendes took on Kelly Kelly and Mickie James. The quote I sent to Steven for the previous post was a pretty frantic text message as it was fairly hard to take pictures, record the matchup on video and text all at the same time while making sure I gave Diva Dirt the exclusive results coverage of the match as quickly as my fingers could type, not to mention that moron who spilled his beer on my newly purchased Extreme Rules t-shirt. I was extremely glad the Divas did get a matchup because frankly I was a little upset I paid close to $100 just to see that Hog Pen Match. So here’s my own coverage of Extreme Rules, live from New Orleans, Louisiana, where yours truly got to experience a great event and was in attendance for one of the best PPV’s of the year.

At the very beginning, the matchup was actually pretty confusing. Tony Chimel was the ring announcer for the match, but right before he came into the ring, Lilian Garcia told us we were going to have a special dark match. Once Tony got in the ring, he simply announced the Divas coming to the ring. Rosa’s name wasn’t mentioned in the introduction either. Nobody knew it was even a tag match since we just thought Rosa was coming with Beth to the ring. Kelly Kelly and Mickie James were just introduced as individuals, so we didn’t catch on to it being a tag team match until it actually began. While entering the ring, Beth started doing a wrong pose, which I thought was pretty funny. She started raising her right hand alone and then midway realized she wasn’t supposed to do that and stopped the pose, then raised both her hands in the typical Glamazon stance.

Once the Divas began coming to the ring, my natural instinct was to record the match for everyone here at Diva Dirt to witness. However, about two minutes into the actual match, security caught me recording and came over to me and asked me to stop filming or else my camera would get confiscated. So while I will be getting the video up for you all shortly, it will only take you through the entrances and midway through the match. And yes, I was talking for part of the video so you’ll enjoy that too.

The match began with Kelly Kelly and Rosa Mendes squaring off in the ring. Rosa got the upper hand first, locking in an armbar and twisting Kelly’s arm over and over again. Kelly reversed the armbar into a quick 1-count rollup on Rosa, followed up with a jumping clothesline and a tag to Mickie James. Mickie did a really interesting move where she lifted Kelly up into a modified Glam-Slam and dropped her down on top of Rosa. Mickie locked in some more offense before Rosa countered and put Mickie into another armbar and dragged her over to make the tag to Beth Phoenix, who had been screaming at Rosa the entire time. Beth was really on top of her game tonight and she entered the ring into a stare-down with Mickie before the two started throwing each other around. Beth had most of the offense here on Mickie and Rosa came in for some double teaming on Mickie while the referee was distracted with Kelly. Mickie hit her Lou Thesz press on Beth, then Beth grabbed Mickie and did a huge slam on Mickie which got a huge reaction out of the crowd. Beth tagged Rosa back in and Rosa basically got beaten up by Mickie. Beth was going nuts on the apron stomping and screaming at Rosa while her hair was flying everywhere. I was extremely impressed by Beth in this showing.

Mickie brought Rosa over to her corner and got a tag in to Kelly who came in with a Sunset Flip for a 2 count on Rosa. Kelly then got pushed on to the mat by Rosa and Rosa delivered some big punches to Kelly’s face. Kelly countered Rosa’s Irish Whip in to the corner and did her usual “COME ON!” chant to the crowd, who responded nicely to it while she did her back handspring elbow. Kelly tagged in Mickie who put Rosa in the opposite corner and delivered her twisting leg scissors to Rosa. This brought Beth in who tried to attack Mickie but was tackled and taken out the ring by Kelly. Mickie hit her Mickie-DDT onto Rosa and scored the pinfall.

SmackDown Redux (June 05, 2009) – Half a Dozen Divas… and Maria
