New Knockout Already Has Chip on Her Shoulder

She’s only been in the business a few weeks and she’s already acting like a diva (no pun intended)! New TNA Knockout, Jenna Morasca has taken to her MySpace (what else!) with a rant on wrestling fans who have badmouthed her joining TNA. I guess that would apply to us too?

While the whole blog is just a fascinating read (check it out after the cut), here is my favourite part:

I know some people say “mockery” are you talking about wrestling!? Yes I know sometime the storylines in wrestling get little cheesy but that does not take away the sheer athleticism of the people involved. So finally once and for all I took the job because I enjoy wrestling, have major respect for everyone involved, was excited to try something new, and can’t WAIT to get in the ring! So all the haters- suck on that…

What I particularly love here is the creative license taken to paint herself with the same brush as the actual wrestlers. You know… the ones that have trained for years. Worked up through the independents.

Jenna: You’re not Trish Stratus, hell you ain’t even fit to lick Maria’s boots. Once you’ve been in the business for as long as they have, you can start complaining. Whiny diva antics may make good reality television, but you won’t last long in the wrestling business.

PS: Threatening bodyslams? Oh noes! The ‘wrestler’ who can’t wrestle is gonna bodyslam me!

Jacqueline’s 12 Year Career Comes to End

Sad news on the Knockout front: TNA is fading Jacqueline away from an onscreen role, ending her 12 year career in the major leagues of wrestling.

Since 1997, Jacqueline has managed to stay in the forefront of America’s biggest promotions – from WCW to WWE to TNA. Her shocking longevity only struck me a few days ago, admist speculation as to why she wasn’t present at the Destination X pay per view last Sunday. It’s true to say that Jacqueline’s run is unprecedented considering the average length of a female wrestler’s career.

Not to panic though! Jacqueline hasn’t been fired. As TNA moves her away from television, she will take up the role of agent for the Knockouts division, keeping her in the fold of the company and women’s wrestling for years to come hopefully.

Jacqueline is a former two time Women’s Champion as well as Cruiserweight Champion. Her first Women’s Championship reign ushered in the Women’s Championship that we know today, currently held by Melina.

May I take this time to congratulate Jackie on her amazing career, she truly deserves a round of applause.

In a tribute to her career, we’ll be counting down Jacqueline’s top five matches as voted for by you. Details after the cut.

It’s Official: TNA Has Lost It (Contains Spoilers)

This post contains spoilers in regards to the November 27th episode of Impact. Inked: A Study in Diva Tattoos

This week’s WWE.com Diva Dish mentioned Candice Michelle‘s newest tattoo, and this little bit inspired me to investigate which former and current Divas and Knockouts have their own selection of body art. Thus, a blog post was born! Below I’ve listed those I could find:

Angelina Love

TNA’s Angelina Love has four tattoos, all pointing towards an angel fixation. She has:

• an angel on her hip
• her former ring name “Angel” scripted on her arm in Old English style lettering
• an angel on the back of her left shoulder
• the Chinese symbol for “angel” on her lower back, surrounded by a set of wings.

Why so angel-obsessed, Angelina?

“I have always had a fascination with angels. I love how they look, I love their innocence, and I love what they represent.”

Ashley Massaro

Former WWE Diva Ashley has plenty of ink:

• a butterfly on her hip
• two black-and-pink nautical stars above the elbows on the back of her arms (her brother has a matching pair on his arms)
• Chinese lettering down the small of her back
• more Chinese lettering down each side of her torso, reading “Trust No One”
• an illustration of a dragon wrapped around the lettering on the left side of her torso.

Review: TNA Knocked Out

Next month, TNA celebrates one year of it’s much celebrated Knockouts division with the release of ‘Knocked Out’, a DVD featuring all of the Knockouts including recently departed Gail Kim and Salinas. It was at Bound For Glory in October 2007 that the division was launched with a 10 woman gauntlet match to determine the first Knockout Champion and this DVD comes precisely one year from that historic event. One could argue that it’s too soon to release a Knockouts DVD but given the reception from both critics and fans alike for this division, this feels like the perfect capitalisation on a hot subject.

From key Knockouts such as ODB and the Beautiful People, the DVD even features the likes of Lauren and SoCal Val, all this interspersed with seminal matches from the division’s one year history including the complete trilogy of matches between Gail Kim and Awesome Kong as well as the Makeover Battle Royal and more. It seems the DVD’s lengthy running time is more made up of these matches than actual Knockout chapters, the likelihood is that the type of fan this DVD aims to reach are the fans who have seen these matches already; it does make for a nice little compilation nonetheless. The DVD’s introduction features comments from the likes of TNA President, Dixie Carter as well as wrestlers Christian Cage, Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett which I felt was a nice touch to add to the legitimacy of the Knockouts division – having praise heaped upon it from top tier stars. Carter’s presence on the DVD particularly stood out to me as she touches upon my thoughts, the idea of a female president of a wrestling company. Carter comes across extremely passionate, protective and supportive of this division and so she should; in a male dominated sport Carter is in a position to promote talented women over men and she speaks with conviction in her support of the Knockouts.

Oh Hey There, Gail Kim!

Marketing gaffe or just poor timing? The poster for TNA’s Bound for Glory Pay-Per-View, which doesn’t take place until October, features one Gail Kim, whom we all know has recently made an exit from the company.
